@Tooden

Double "el" isn't silent, it's pronounced a little like a "y".

"File" in Fr is pronounced like "fill" in En, but "fille" would be something like... huh... well, I don't know any words in English that has an ending like that.

That would be like the "fi-" sound of "fill" with a "-y" sound... like in "papa-y-a".

I'll stay it IT... I'm a pretty poor linguist. 🤣

Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

I agree that assuming default rules is fraught, and not the way forward. It's better to cultivate an attitude of willingness to understand and adapt as needed. No defaults, just good faith willingness to flex, because no one can predict what will or won't work for everyone. To me this is a neurodiversity principle

I don't consider it rude, just a different norm. I also don't consider it rude of me to not pick up and instead to reply by text or email, or not reply at all. I don't fault people for engaging how they want [and/ but/ because] I reserve the right to decide how I'm going to engage

You said you're asking but it doesn't seem like you're listening. I'm autistic and I find the phone uncomfortable but I can use it fine. Others however can't use it at all, or can't use it without major problems. This may be hard to believe if you haven't experienced it; disabilities that are "invisible" can be hard to understand from the outside. So, people on this thread are asking you to hold space for what you can't see

I was born and raised feminine but when I read about sealioning or mansplaining I both know what they're talking about, and also feel like these things can be indistinguishable from coming from a genuine friendly place and I'm hoping someone who is better at words than me can explain why I feel like this is connected to autism.

Dear academics,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any reliable way to search specifically for a literature review?
Like suppose I don't want to become an expert on the psychology of moral learning, but I do want to have a sense of the general literature and positions in that literature. I find myself on Google Scholar sorting through hundreds of articles, and it feels extremely inefficient. Is there a better way?

In history there are articles titled "state of the field" that exist for exactly this reason, so if you're looking for history you can search for that plus the topic. I don't know if similar genres exist in other fields

I'm . The sound of the train blowing its horn as it passes my house makes me cover my ears in pain. But the throbbing bass of the engine that causes a deep pressure in my chest from the vibration makes me feel happy.

When I was a kid, I used to crank up the bass of my parents' stereo and sit directly against the woofer to feel that pressure. They would always yell at me to turn it down. I've always loved that feeling.

Days before I gave birth to my second child my vision was alternating between red and green. You know how if you cover one eye you see a green tint, and the other eye, a red one? Both my eyes were open but they were taking turns and it was intense. My care provider didn't know what I was talking about

I think it's about feeling simplistic or obvious. Like if something is already being expressed it would be redundant to keep saying it, so the name would have more value if it were adding some other dimension

Here's one from today. I'm lying in the shade at a festival when a group of teens sits right next to me. I'm hearing their whole convo and I find myself marveling at how they talk: tone of voice, what they choose to say, how it's flowing, every detail: as if I'm studying for a test that I will not pass on a topic I like but will never understand

@Ferles I'm reminded suddenly of old-timey books in which people would hop about or cut a caper when they were happy. I wonder if this is one of those things where, if the culture were willing to allow it, everyone would win. Maybe it would be nice for everyone to be able to jump for joy, whether they were autistically stimming or not @Claire @Autistrain @actuallyautistic

Alt text isn't just helpful for the sight-impaired. By reading alt text I can identify what the OP is calling attention to in the pic, helping me get the joke or social commentary that would otherwise be illegible to me. I make rules about spaces, ie this is a quiet room and that is a play room; or play upstairs quiet downstairs; or inside v outside. We have family meetings where we problem solve each person's needs together. Even small kids can do this if you teach them how. When things misfire, we iterate together
