Yes Stallman have issues but you dont wish someone dead! I know someone who is currently battling cancer and on chemotherapy and its an awful situation just to see it. I hope RMS can beat the cancer.

The BBC on Mastodon: experimenting with distributed and decentralised social media (www.bbc.co.uk)

“As the social media landscape ebbs and flows, the team at BBC Research & Development are researching social technologies and exploring possibilities for the BBC. One part of our work is to establish a BBC presence in the distributed collection of social networks known as the Fediverse, a collection of social media...

Brendan is quick to act when it comes to $$$$… and anti LGBT law

gaw,

With his position back then Brendan could make an impact making the world less hateful place to be yet he chose not to by supporting ban on gay marriage.

After the backlash he stepped down, he started a startup company that make web browser which is now known as Brave (brave choice of name for unapologetic homophobic).

gaw,

If by what you mean by Mozilla going downhill is losing marketshare.

  1. it’s most likely because Google promoting Chrome whenever you visit google.
  2. Also add to that bad business decision they have made for example buying Pocket.
  3. Those at Mozilla helm i think is always bad. Brendan with his homophobia, Mitchell Baker with her salary rise while firing employees.

I prefer Wayland (.social) though

Context: Twitter is currently rebranding it self as X.com, which is the bottom logo. X.org is a FOSS implementation of the The X Window System which is being slowly replaced by the newer Wayland display server. Because of the Twitter rebrand Someone decided to make Wayland.social, to parody the X.org to Wayland transition.

gaw,

Ahh so this is why the front image looks like a screen tearing 😬

And in Paris it could cost you an extra €60 or something if there’s random ticket check and you can’t provide that you have the ticket. As a tourist I’ve seen this myself in Bir-Hakeim Station. Please keep your ticket, don’t throw it away!

gaw,

Hi. As someone who are not from Paris or Europe all i could think is that everyone who ride the train will already bought their ticket as they will need it to pass the turnstile, so i often throw the ticket away after checking in at the turnstile.

gaw,

I haven’t been to the U.S, Thank you I’ll keep that in mind.

Google is working on essentially putting DRM on the web (github.com)

The much maligned “Trusted Computing” idea requires that the party you are supposed to trust deserves to be trusted, and Google is DEFINITELY NOT worthy of being trusted, this is a naked power grab to destroy the open web for Google’s ad profits no matter the consequences, this would put heavy surveillance in Google’s...

gaw,

Gonna play devil’s advocate here… I think most Mozilla money comes from Google and i think the reason Google keeps the money flowing to Mozilla is for Chrome to have a real competitor, Firefox to date is the only popular web browser with different engine and all that. Maybe it’s fair for me to say that it resembles a tiny tiny fraction of why Intel keeps AMD alive back then.

As for EFF, i viewed them as just another NGO. For me most NGOs will have a non achievable goals, because it will be the dead of an NGO if they ever achive their goals. (No more money for them).

I’m not against people donating to Mozilla or EFF or Thunderbird Foundation. I think it will be better (yet longer process) if government can regulate big tech, much like what the European Union did with GDPR.

gaw,

It’s still Webkit, no?

gaw,

Hey i have Epiphany installed on my laptop, i love its clean interface! I think just last week i received an update via flathub and i feel it runs smoother now when i browse heavy website such as Google StreetView.

Polish Border Bazaars | ARTE.tv Documentary (www.youtube.com)

All over Europe, prices are rising with rampant inflation. At the border bazaar in Łęknica, Poland this is not the case: Local stalls and shops have to keep prices low so as not to scare off German customers - the main buyers who cross the border looking for bargains. But low prices are not without consequences in a country...

For now i just want color management on Wayland KDE.

Sri Lanka's economic crisis sparks exodus of thousands. (www.youtube.com)

As Sri Lanka struggles to recover from its worst economic crisis in decades, its people are leaving for better opportunities abroad. Government figures suggest some 122,000 people have left the country till May this year - the same number that left the country in all of 2021! Faced with rising prices and growing poverty, their...

But Flatpak is very European. And KDE Kirigami is very Asian. Shall we call it best of world model? 🤭

gaw,

I don’t know if the 10M is a pun or something but it reminisce the same amount that Mark Shuttleworth pledged when he started a Debian fork project called Ubuntu.

gaw,

Sigh, This is why Aliens haven’t visited us yet.

The name always pop up with strings like fermi paradox on YouTube so I’ll take his opinion as entertainment, much like Michio Kaku. I guess futurist like Avi and Michio most likely to be wrong.

Effing printer man! The open source movement started because of this, go ask Richard Stallman.

This list makes me want to re-watch some of Mike Leigh’s film. Oh and " The Long Good Friday " !

AFI - The 100 Greatest American Films Of All Time (www.afi.com)

The American Film Institute proudly curates lists to celebrate excellence in the art form. gaw,

As a non American nor English native speaker, this list has helped me to discover great movie. I have watch every movie from the list. And i wish in other Universe i will be the one who directed or starred in one of those movie!

I have my own bias loving Scorsese, Coppola, Polanski, Tarantino, and recently Jordan Peele, and for actor like Denzel, Al Pacino, Brando, Hoffman, Viola Davis as well as healthy amount of dislike for Fred Astaire like actors and franchises by Spielberg & Lucas (maybe because it is too foreign for me to relate).

But i think it is OK to prefer one movie over the other. And in all fairness i think everyone will have their own favorite movie list. So yeah just enjoy watching every movie you wanna see.

gaw,

The article is not very informative. No mentioning about package manager they use, no explanation if UKIP runs on wayland natively, etc. I guess i just have to try it myself.

gaw,

Quick question, has the relation between KDE (the organization) and Qt company improved? I remember reading about the tension regarding Qt 6 that will be available under different term such as waiting time for non paying license holder to use latest release.
