On a laptop absolutely. My firewall on my laptop doesn’t let me discriminate between networks so I’m always worried someone will try to attack me on public WiFi for the few ports I want open
On a desktop on a network you trust less important but still no firewall means if another device on your network gets compromised you’re screwed
I think at least in the anime, kaioken serves the exact same purpose as forms of just granting Goku a massive power boost to overcome a strong enemy and much like forms is more or less forgotten about once a newer shinier one comes around (until ssb kaioken much later on anyway)
No that’s true actually, wouldn’t really count blue kaioken as a new form as it’s just a new way of using existing stuff though again serves the same purpose to the story
Haven’t seen GT yet so couldn’t comment there though ssj4 is absolutely the coolest looking transformation
I just managed to get a absolute baseline working app in avaloniaUI using this library that someone cooked up. No idea if the library is actively maintained, but uh, we’ll figure that out when we get to it....

I realize and understand the criticisms of ChatGPT and I have personally seem how bad it can be. Once I asked to count the number of days till a random date giving the present date and it failed miserably, again and again. Trust me! I get the criticism. But, what about Bing Chat Bot?...
They can definitely be made to work out arithmetic and similar though
If you were to say in the preprompt something like: When asked a mathematical question, please respond with the equations used to achieve the result
For example if you asked it what 3x4 is it could respond with “The answer is {3x4}” and then the {3x4} could be evaluated in software afterwards and dropped in for the user to see
I think that might be what chatGPT does now as they somewhat recently fixed it always getting maths wrong
Or alternatively you could ask it to simply write a script to work out whatever problem it’s given that isn’t linguistic and execute that in a sandboxed environment (though still might be too risky incase it generates some bad code)
As I’m about to start renewing and expanding the computer fleet in my house I decided I want to have a machine solely for my personal use, where I can use some solutions no one else will feel comfortable with in the house....
I started out running gnome, then got an extension called Forge which makes gnome into a pretty decent tiling WM, obviously it’s gnome so you hit a block if you want tons of customisation past the bog standard
Recently tried out qtile which was not a pleasant experience, if there’s an error in your config file the entire wm fails to start and it stopped NixOS from being able to hot reload config
I then tried hyprland which is absolutely gorgeous, and the config file is pretty simple and intuitive plus hot reload is a god send
TL;DR If you want a good enough tiler that just works out of the box and don’t care about customisation too much go gnome+forge
If you’re ok with spending a few days tinkering with your system and building it from the ground up go hyprland (I hear sway is very good too and more mature)
If they can spend the money on something not necessary for the company it should be counted as their money I think
Companies get their own money separate from an individual but after a certain bracket they have to be audited by an impartial third party to make sure the money isn’t just being used for personal stuff
May seem like an obvious one considering where we are but standards for communication apps
If everything uses a standard like activitypub/matrix and becomes cross compatible I don’t need to have 6 different messaging apps
Provided the standard is completely backwards compatible of course I think it would be awesome to just let people have their messaging app of choice and be able to talk to everyone else (I think there might actually be an EU regulation coming that enforces this for larger messaging apps)
A few years ago we were able to upgrade everything (OS and Apps) using a single command. I remember this was something we boasted about when talking to Windows and Mac fans. It was such an amazing feature. Something that users of proprietary systems hadn’t even heard about. We had this on desktops before things like Apple’s...
Recently, I switched from Windows to Linux, tried many distros, and ended up with the Ubuntu rolling-release. Things went well for some days, but I started facing some issues like printer issues, gaming performance issues, and overall Ubuntu performance issues. So, I switched to where it all started, which is Windows 10. Now...
Pop!os and mint are the usual go-tos for easy windows-like experiences
I am however physically incapable of not recommending NixOS at any chance I get, it is by far the best experience I’ve had on Linux so far having tried a good number of distros (provided you have some knowledge of how config files work and don’t mind installing software through one)
My background is in telecommunications (the technical side of video production), so I know that 30fps is (or was?) considered the standard for a lot of video. TV and movies don’t seem choppy when I watch them, so why does doubling the frame rate seem to matter so much when it comes to games? Reviewers mention it constantly,...
Try gaming on 30hz, then 60hz, then 120+ if you can and you will notice a dramatic difference
In a film or TV show response time doesn’t matter, and you don’t really need to see things that only pop up for a split second, in a game having a higher refresh rate can mean the difference between noticing an enemy and not
Most of us hate Microsoft, and yet many of us use VSCode
I get that it’s open source provided you use codium not code but I still find that interesting
Do you need to have a firewall on a linux desktop?
Hi. I wanted to know if it’s needed to install a firewall on a linux desktop/laptop. Why yes or why no?
