I’ve got a set of Yamaha HS7 studio monitors sitting in front of me right now. Their music equipment is great.

Arc is incredible. I can’t wait for it to come to Windows

Concerning mail alternatives, for official stuff and accounts

I know there are already Gmail alternatives in the pinned post, Protonmail and Tutanota. I’ve experimented a bit with both of them, and both Tutanota or the free Protonmail are out of the question since I can’t use them with Thunderbird, so I don’t have a convenient way to keep all my mails stored in case my account gets...

You can use ProtonMail with Thunderbird. You just need to run ProtonMail Bridge on the same device.

It works alright but there are still issues. My biggest gripe with it is that sleeping doesn’t really work. I will often close my laptop and then come back to a dead laptop the next day because the battery drained all night.

ellesper,
@ellesper@lemmy.world avatar

Oh wow. The person who dropped that is having a terrible day.

For what it’s worth, I think Elon is both evil and an idiot.

Yikes. Hope they eventually leave you alone. That sounds rough

I have really long, thick, curly hair. My showers can easily take 45 minutes to an hour because of everything I need to do to wash, detangle, and finish my hair routine.

Thank you! I just got into houseplants as a hobby a few months ago and I’m helplessly addicted.

I’m with you on the hanging pots. I’ve got a few more on the way right now 😅

Definitely the Kobo Libra 2 or the Kobo Nia. I bought both a Kindle and a Kobo Libra 2 and ended up returning the Kindle because book piracy was a pain. The overall Kobo user experience is just a whole lot more pleasant.

Need recommendations on something like Vaultwarden but for 2FA only.

So I selfhost Vaultwarden which allows TOTP but I like to keep my 2FA and Password Manager separate, so I’m looking for something like Vaultwarden which can sync up with my server, but for 2FA only. I came across 2FAuth which can do it, but it only has webapp, so if a Alternative Service where there is a client for iOS and...

Frankly, if they aren’t tech savvy, you should just have them use Authy. No, it’s not open source, but it’s just fine for the average user.

I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?

Even if we’re subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they’ve managed to overwhelm my feed.

ellesper,
@ellesper@lemmy.world avatar

I just don’t subscribe to those communities and that seems to work well enough. When I don’t want to see it, I sort by subscribed. If I’m in the mood for memes or shitposts, I sort by all.

myanonamouse is by far the best private tracker for books, and getting an invite was super easy.

If you really want to build an awesome Plex/Jellyfin library, start using Usenet instead of torrents.

I used to use Coffee Mate but I’ve started making my own coffee syrups from scratch using water, sugar, and vanilla bean paste. A splash of syrup + milk beats creamer by a mile.

Hello! Been producing music in FL Studio for nearly 15 years. I make electronic and hip hop, coincidentally

ellesper,

for sure! you can find my music here: soundcloud.com/ellesper

and yes I technically have a matrix account but I don’t really use it

No, not so far

YSK: You should dry off beef before cooking. Doing so promotes the Maillard Reaction, which will make the meat taste and look better. (www.seriouseats.com)

Why YSK: When you cook meat, any water on the surface must first evaporate before much browning can occur. You want to get as much of a Maillard reaction as possible in the limited cooking time you have before the meat reaches the correct internal temperature. Removing the moisture first means that the heat of the cooking...

you’re basically just dry aging it at that point, no?

I started pirating movies again after a decade

I was a happy Netflix user until 2018, before that I haven’t really pirated any movies (with very rare exceptions) for almost a decade but I recently started again. I’m was doing my monthly budgeting and realized I was paying for too many subscription services. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Shudder, Disney+, Hulu and Crunchyroll....

It’s a small dose but definitely enough to get the job done. When I tripsit any of my friends for the first time I always have them start with 1 gram. 1 to 1.5 is manageable for most beginners.

Yeah- this is my big gripe with all of the alternative video sharing platforms. All of them have a significantly right-wing conspiracy theorist bias. Not really a place I see myself spending a lot of time, personally.
