coffee,

Sync has been available for well over 2 months, I don’t think that many former users will still follow. Sure, each new app will bring a fraction of its former users, but that’s not sustainable.

coffee,

Long term sustainability is going to be challenging. The Lemmy userbase is way smaller than reddit’s regardless, and for 3.50 EUR one-off it will be challenging to cover future development efforts.

coffee,

You could argue that 25% for sync is quite something, and almost double that of the next largest competitor.

coffee,

It actually has, if you scroll down to the bottom there are plenty of users stating default UI plus some plugin.

coffee,

Hm, I like it way more than RiF.

coffee,

Surprised there’s no litter box.

coffee,

Deleted my two main accounts and I think 3 alts that I could still remember, and haven’t been back since. I can’t use social media without Sync.

coffee,

Exactly that. I’ve got it plugged into a Nvidia Shield that’s on my network, streaming stuff from my local NAS and various online sources. My router blocks known ad networks, and all apps I install on the Shield are vetted to maximise privacy.

coffee,

The Nvidia Shield is amazing.

coffee,

I haven’t seen an open network in the last 3 or so years.

coffee,

No disclaimer you need to accept or anything? That’s usually enough to block IoT devices from auto-connect.

coffee,

Because Russia blew up domestic infrastructure, so satellite based communication looked like a decent alternative.

coffee,

Worthless =/= insolvent.

The value is determined based on a shareholder valuation, insolvent means having a negative cashflow and depleted reserves.

You can technically run a stock absolutely into the ground if everyone would place sell orders at market (i.e. without limit) and the only buyers would offer 1 cent.

That changes nothing about the profitability of the company though.

And while this is a very hypothetical scenario for a listed company, for an unlisted one you can freely adjust your list price. If he were to sell 1% for $1 to his neighbor, the company valuation would be down to 100 bucks.

coffee,

Linux loves dual boot, windows is the problem and always has been. But as long as you install windows first and Linux second, there’s no problem whatsoever, the installer detects your installation and automatically adds multiboot. Installing windows after Linux means that you will have to restore the bootloader.

coffee,

I’ve absolutely had hiking poles in my hand luggage, wasn’t a problem whatsoever.

coffee,

German, late 30s. Automatic cars are rather uncommon in Germany, we sure like our manuals. Not being able to push my car into high RPMs when needed to overtake or accelerate quickly takes the fun out of driving. I’d never switch to automatic as long as I still have both arms and legs. And yes I know kickdowns are a thing, but it really doesn’t compare.

coffee,

Not OP, but yes manual permits to drive both types, automatic doesn’t allow driving manuals. I believe that’s an EU regulation.

coffee,

Yeah I was also a bit confused about the “mad respect” for what I’d call standard driving :-D

coffee,

Agree. Though the Logitech UltraX Flat was the best keyboard I ever had, and it was external. Sadly long since discontinued…

The Spotify Car Thing cost $100, but I can't use it anymore. (lemmy.ml)

EDIT: The only reason why I still had it at this point was because I could use it with other apps. However, now that my Spotify Subscription is cancelled, it doesn’t work with anything. It’s mildly infuriating because today, I can’t still use it with other apps like I was able to yesterday....

coffee,

High tech from the 90’s :-D

coffee,

If there is a god, it takes a special sadist to allow the amount of torment present on earth.

So I prefer to believe there’s no higher spirit ravelling in the suffering of all creatures rather than there being a malevolent creator watching with glee as we die a slow, painful death.

coffee,

Exactly that. Nothing against a bit of marbling, or else the steak will just dry out when you put some heat to it, but if there’s more fat than actual meat, I’m not impressed.

coffee,

I wasn’t feeling exactly great either. Didn’t throw up, but for sure had some digestive issues throughout the night that really don’t need repeating.

coffee,

Yes I had stripes, cubes, whole steaks, burger mince and whatnot, and just don’t enjoy it in whichever fashion.

coffee,

Ribeyes can be nice, really depending on the particular piece of meat, but they can already be marbled beyond my liking. I eat my steaks rare, bordering on blue, so I want the meat to be on the leaner side since you don’t render all the fat out in the cooking process.

When I make my own I’ll usually go for picanha (rump cap), cut them into thick slices and grill them on the fat cap until it’s rendering in the pan and then brown the meat just for half a minute on either side in the fat.

coffee,

Never set foot into any of those establishments.

coffee,

No, I love it. But then again I live in Asia where we get prime sushi, the stuff served elsewhere in the world is often miserable.

coffee,

Right, so in that case I’d say it’s time wasted on raising something of a sub-par standard.

Beluga is nice, very rich and intense, but unless someone else is paying, I’m having none of that either.

coffee,

I agree, but Wagyu is hyped all around, so some people must actually like it.

From all the “rich people foods” I’d say lobster is the one I truly love. Beluga caviar is nice but way overpriced, and oysters are just the devil’s snot. Baked and with a pile of minced garlic they are barely palatable.

coffee,

For fish that’s no problem at all, no idea why tbh., come to think of it. There are very few I don’t enjoy - and that’s usually due to that sweet mayonnaise and not the actual fish. As sashimi I couldn’t name a single one I wouldn’t eat.

coffee,

Definitely possible. I’ll try to evaluate that over my next sushi session ;-)

And this isn’t reddit, we can all be nice to one another… For now, I suppose.

coffee,

I didn’t pay for it either. If I’d have been the one to order, I would have settled for something way more budget friendly. Not that I mind splurging once in a while, but then only on stuff I actually enjoy.

coffee,

Yeah and then you poop glitter. The canal workers are gotta be mightily impressed.

coffee,

Nothing. She has a login on my system and can access pretty much anything already, minus emails and dropbox I believe. But there’s nothing worth hiding either.

coffee,

Used to play Duke Nukem 3D there, and I think one of the Quake games. Later games all came with bundled Gamespy and forced the installation on me, hated it so much I gave up playing online back then, and still never got back into it.

coffee,

I’m using Genius Scan+ on my phone and bought the cloud backup option for like $3 one-off, that enables automated exports to dropbox, google drive and a bunch of other services. Every document I receive is scanned and adequately named right away, and then automatically exported to both google drive and dropbox.

The dropbox client then again runs on my laptop and desktop and automatically syncs new files to the local folders, so I have the original scan on my phone plus two cloud backups and the local copies of the cloud backups on another two devices.

The original documents are kept in physical folders, neatly stored at home.

In case the important document is a digital copy only, I will export it from my mailbox directly to the dropbox & google drive, so it’s the same as above minus the copy on my phone. Depending on how important it is, I might also print a copy for safekeeping and/or forward it to a secondary email should I ever lose access to my primary.

coffee,

It’s been 3 days. As a former prison inmate, they most certainly had his DNA on file.

coffee,

It’s not that unusual. I work in the medical device industry and we need to do quite some testing with early prototypes for all sorts of stuff like biocompatibility, cytotoxicity, hemocompatibility as well as pressure tests, drop tests, leakage testing and whatnot. Each and every one of those prototypes is hand made and therefore the “only one”.

Even if they pass one test with flying colors and no visible damages, we couldn’t use them in another test because they need to be factory new to satisfy regulatory protocols.

Normally we don’t ask for those back, we are more interested in the ones that failed a particular test.

Now we wouldn’t want our prototypes to be auctioned off, naturally, so the test centers we work with have to ensure they’ll be destroyed (we have contracts and NDAs in place). But not wanting a prototype back after a third party played around with it is way more common than you think.

coffee,

I’m sure they wanted it back, I’m just saying that disposing of prototypes is not as outlandish as it generally sounds.

coffee,

Will do, thanks for the encouragement :-)

coffee,

How people in the security sector operate without 2FA with dedicated apps is totally beyond me.
