bionicjoey,

I drank one but the smell is still there.

bionicjoey,

How is that a red flag? Did you misread the OP’s question?

bionicjoey,

It has some meta humour though

bionicjoey,

Was expecting Knights of Cydonia. Instead got OP’s barely disguised fetish.

bionicjoey,

Literally the first I heard of this game has been all the negative coverage in the past couple of days. Where were all these people who were apparently hyped and clamouring to play this game even coming from?

bionicjoey,

Schaffrillas is pretty good for analysis of movies

bionicjoey,

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! This is the War Room!

bionicjoey,

I forget which season it’s in, but LD has one of my favourite tidbits of worldbuilding in all of ST. In the episode where they are goofing on the TOS movies, there is a scene where Kayshon busts through a door and shouts “Temba!” before shooting a bad guy. Thereby establishing that the Tamarian “Temba, his arms wide” not only means “take this” in the sense of sharing/offering something to someone, but also means “Take this!” in the sense of an exclamation when attacking someone.

bionicjoey,

Semi related but can I just rant for a second about the fact that Tav is simultaneously the least interesting character and also the glue that holds the party together?

The other characters will straight-up refuse to interact with each other outside of special cutscenes. And even then, they almost always let Tav make their decisions for them. I wish each character could have full interaction with each other character. Like I could switch to Laezel, talk to Karlach, and I’d see a bit of relationship development between the two of them, then switch to Shadowheart and go talk to Gale and have a totally different kind of relationship form

bionicjoey, (edited )

It’s possible to do much more though in terms of giving your character a backstory in a CRPG though.

As an example, Dragon Age Origins had a different solo mission at the beginning of the game for almost each race/class combination, and the choices and relationships you develop during those missions can come up in the main story.

As another example, Tyranny started the character creation process with a brief text-based choose-your-own-adventure story. The choices you made there not only influenced stuff that happened to you throughout the story, it also affected your starting relationship with certain factions.

Edit: like what if they did a small backstory mission depending on the background/class you picked which ended when the nautilus appeared and abducted Tav? That would be great and would make the city of Baldur’s Gate feel more like home, which it’s meant to.

bionicjoey,

I haven’t actually played DUrge because the elevator pitch in the character creation screens just sounded way too angsty and edgy for my liking. I wish they’d given more flexible origin options like that though.

bionicjoey,

Mark Corrigan from Peep Show

bionicjoey,

I feel like I remember seeing this comic (or one like it) back in my earliest days on Reddit. It must be pretty old at this point. Not complaining, just remarking; I do actually find it pretty funny

bionicjoey,

Then my memory did serve me correctly, since I started using Reddit a little over a decade ago

bionicjoey,

Their assembly instructions are even designed the same way. Those Scandanavians definitely know how to write an assembly manual!

bionicjoey,

Snow is just so pretty! You’re never too old to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Lemmy is a forum for discussion, not your personal search engine

bionicjoey,

Can you recommend a paper as a starting point?

bionicjoey,

LPT: Food banks usually have deals with local food suppliers and wholesalers. They can do way more with a donation of money than they can with donations of actual food. Because they are able to cut out the middlemen.

bionicjoey,

Please Don’t Tease by The Donnas. I am spinning their record Stay The Night, but that’s the one that was playing at the exact moment I clicked this post

bionicjoey,

Sometimes I watch NSFW ASMR videos in order to trigger my ASMR.

bionicjoey,

I mean my answer was half-joking, so I guess you get a half-woosh (woc). Like yes, I do sometimes do what I said above, but everyone watching these videos understands that they serve 2 purposes

bionicjoey,

the civilizations that currently exist that don’t have that connection

Like which?

bionicjoey,

Russian Doll is a pretty good one

bionicjoey,

It’s a time loop story like Groundhog Day

bionicjoey,

Oh God, not the stairs!

bionicjoey,

Yeah they’re like a cheesy cracker

bionicjoey,

When I was a kid my parents read me a picture book about a goldfish that was fed too many flakes and grew to the size of a house. Scared the hell outta me!

bionicjoey,

This is one of the features in chrome that I wish Firefox would implement.

bionicjoey,

Any sufficiently rigged demo is indistinguishable from advanced technology

bionicjoey,

One of my favourite lines in all of DS9 is when Rom and Quark are arguing about where they’ve crash landed.

Quark says something like, “maybe we’ve died and gone to [ferengi heaven]”.

Rom then says “or maybe we’ve gone to [Ferengi Hell]?”

Quark responds (and Armin absolutely crushed this line IMO): “The bar was turning a profit!”

bionicjoey,

I was curious if they’d be working with a publisher or going indie this time. The article didn’t say. So I went straight to their website and their newsfeed hasn’t been updated in like a year.

So I think it’s safe to say they haven’t gotten much better at PR 😂

bionicjoey,

Keep in mind that took years of development after NMS released. Don’t expect that this game will be perfect, or even good, on release day. If it is, the reviewers will say as much and we can all be pleasantly surprised and pick it up. But don’t hype yourself up for a game that has almost no information available yet, and is probably still early in development.

bionicjoey,

And if she doesn’t, she doesn’t deserve you anyway.

bionicjoey,

Yeah but if you’re expecting an ice-cold gazpacho soup and it’s room temperature, you could burn yourself!

bionicjoey,

He’s a pretty awesome educational YouTuber but this is a dumb take. To be fair, he’s not a programmer or software guy. I believe his background is in engineering.

bionicjoey,

I know a lot of people (even people who work in IT) who automatically assume free=shitty. It’s hard to appreciate just how effective and influential FOSS has been as a business model unless you are immersed in the world of software.

bionicjoey,

Translation:“I refuse to try the thing that people tell me might make my life better. I prefer to rant and complain to random strangers on a public forum rather than accepting that a solution to my problem may exist”

It’s funny, this is not at all his stance when it comes to hardware and appliances. It doesn’t even sound like something he’d say.

bionicjoey,

I’d be more sympathetic to that mindset if it was anyone other than TC saying this. He’s a smart dude and I have every confidence he could figure out how to use a new piece of software.

bionicjoey,

You are autistic. Go look it up, read what it is, get diagnosed.

bionicjoey,

It’s so cheap to make promises like this because they have no idea if they’ll still be in power by then.

bionicjoey,

3 mile island wasn’t that big of a deal, and the mistakes there caused a complete redesign of how control panels for nuclear plants are layed out

bionicjoey,

So what you’re saying is… Bears are powered by AI.

bionicjoey,

That explains some things I’ve seen it generate.

bionicjoey,

Pretty good discussion in my old post here: lemmy.ca/post/5380703
