I have looked it up and to include it in that list is just downright ludicrous. Let me give you some quotes from the wiki
“The system was characterized as a modern x86-64 Commodore 64, using an interface similar to a mixture of DOS and Turbo C.”
“TempleOS (formerly J Operating System, LoseThos, and SparrowOS) is a biblical-themed lightweight operating system (OS) designed to be the Third Temple prophesied in the Bible. It was created by American programmer Terry A. Davis, who developed it alone over the course of a decade after a series of manic episodes that he later described as a revelation from God.”
“The system was characterized as a modern x86-64 Commodore 64, using an interface similar to a mixture of DOS and Turbo C. Davis proclaimed that the system’s features, such as its 640x480 resolution, 16-color display, and single-voice audio, were designed according to explicit instructions from God.”
In my freshman year of computer science our main computer lab was filled with Sage IV machines. Basically a Motorola 68k series with 4 or 5 serial terminals. Most people were writing Pascal code or using a simple word processor. But god forbid you were on there with someone taking assembly language. Because they could write really stupid code with super tight loops that never allowed any other code to run, and the only thing you could do was reboot. So if you hadn’t saved your code you were fucked.
So I never purposely wrote really bad code that would overwrite unprotected shared memory with random quotes from Marvin from HHGTG to mess with other people. I would never do that. That would have been unethical and shit… 🤔
I did learn a lot of basic hardware and operating systems though so there’s that.
Well having personally dealt with the Redhat and Ubuntu fiascos there are some that are clearly better than others 🤣
I would say that some are better dealing with certain hardware better than others. But you are right, it’s all Linux so any distro could be made to work.
Personally if it were me and gaming was my primary focus, I’d go to the place that’s doing the most with gaming and Linux, SteamOS.
There are lots of sites that go through the process of building a Linux gaming machine using SteamOS.
Here’s just one random video I found (not affiliated with this at all) about using an old optiplex from eBay, some ram upgrades, and a RX580 GPU. Apparently they did this for $150 but take that with a grain of salt. Hope this helps.

I’m neurodivergent too and whenever I read statements like this I just assume they are being sarcastic since it makes me feel better about humanity in general.
On a completely different tangent: Is it just me or are the discussion here (on Lemmy that is) just more sane and civilized than Reddit? Being a Reddit refugee I’m just not used to the rationality and civility here. I find it quite refreshing. It’s like there are adults here or something. 🤣
For a DB, iscsi all day long. At work we have some of the fastest storage available on the market today (SCM drives in front of E1.L super fast SSD all connected with 100gbe mellanox switches and NICs) and it barely can keep up with the MySQL DB. NFS would absolutely work for the other use cases. But these are enterprise class systems for an entire university so yeah lots of load.
For a home system, I’m not sure it matters if the load isn’t much. I prefer iscsi because I know how it works. I use it for VMware datastores even at home. Anything that is shared storage between webservers or the like, NFS is almost required since shared iscsi storage is going to be very difficult to set up outside of something like VMware datastores since the file system is setup for multi-writers. Other filesystems like Redhat’s GFS2 or Oracle’s OCFS can do it but it’s not cheap or easy.
Tl;dr summary: my suggestion is iscsi for the DB and NFS for the other stuff.
A lot of kids need help at 18, not just ones that age out of foster care. The difference is most kids have the safety net of a family and just aren’t shoved out the door to fend for themselves. It takes time, resources, and drive to get the momentum you need to self-sustain. And honestly sometimes a lot of luck. And even then sometimes it’s not enough (I know, I have a step-son almost 40 that’s almost always teetering on the edge of collapse).
I empathize with these kids that fall through the cracks and don’t have that safety net. I feel for a lot of these millennials and gen-z kids that don’t have the same opportunities I had graduating in the late 80s. But I especially feel for these kids that feel so alone and desolate.
