“Unclear who is right”

No it’s pretty clear, out with the colonizer government. How is this a question?

  • bdonvr,

I only worry how bad the colonizers will retaliate.

    bdonvr,

    Down with the settler government

    bdonvr,

Sort by top -> 6 hours

    Hot sort sucks

    bdonvr,

Turns out being anti-war protesters means they’re ANTI WAR.

What do you want them to do? Raise funds to send some missles over?

    bdonvr,

We’ve sent billions to Ukraine, seems to only have ended in more dead people and little progress.

    bdonvr,

Stop trying to simplify geopolitics into interpersonal metaphors.

In your metaphor what is the billions in human killing machines that NATO et al supply to Ukraine? Who would be the thousands dead and families destroyed?

    bdonvr, (edited )

Turns out it’s more complicated than “person does bad things, and so every single action and affect of their action is completely cartoonishly evil”. Doesn’t mean some things they do AREN’T, don’t get me wrong.

    bdonvr,

Clearly the solution is to escalate, sending MORE weapons! That can only possibly SAVE lives!

    bdonvr,

This article didn’t seem too bad I don’t think.

    bdonvr,

It could be a more rural area where they have a larger amount of land

    bdonvr,

Yeah, I’m 24 and played it in middle school lmao

    bdonvr,

Just to be clear they’re talking about jobs working for the federal government.

    bdonvr,

I get sweet fuck all for being sick. Unpaid time off.

    bdonvr,

Well that would be some kind of long term medical leave at that point. We can get pay for that but it’s far less than 100% and I don’t think it would last that long.

    bdonvr,

First guess, probably just outputs as one of the analog sticks. Always outputting as though it’s pushed all the way to the edge and it rotates with the wheel.

    bdonvr,

Doubt it, you wouldn’t be able to know which color was where. Unless the player had to manually set it every time they started the game.

    bdonvr,

All my maternal uncles ARE bald, fuck.

Though mid-20s and no sign yet.

    bdonvr,

I had asked why it is like that before, and basically it sounds like the rendering engine and the UI and all in Firefox are all tightly integrated.

Whereas with Chromium you can pretty easily embed the engine into anything.

    Unfortunate.

    bdonvr,

I graduated in 2017, they definitely did for me in elementary school.

    bdonvr,

    Hello fellow small instance admin.

I have a few hundred users but I’m pretty sure closer to 25 actually active lol

    bdonvr,

You seem really mad at the person behind the counter, perhaps instead consider being mad at the millionaires and billionaires in charge that decided to make it this way.

    bdonvr,

For reference I run a pretty small instance. I’m at 34GB for the main database, and about 120GB of media. (Doesn’t count backups)

My instance is much, much smaller though. A few hundred users, and probably only a couple dozen actually active.

    bdonvr,

Newest update defaults to 0.4, but the latest version is 0.4.4. I don’t think there’s a significant difference.

But it looks like ruud stayed on 0.3.x until now because there’s a pretty serious migration between 0.3.x and 0.4.x

    bdonvr,

The really cheap budget lines do.

    They pull you in with a $30 (or even sometimes $10-20) ticket. But you then have to pay for E V E R Y T H I N G else.

Carry on bag? $50+. (And anything bigger than a purse counts, that backpack is gonna cost ya) Checked luggage? $65. Select a seat? $25+ (per leg). Their seats are small so if you don’t pay you’ll probably end up in the middle, oh and they’re not keeping your party together. Not using mobile ticketing? $50. Free sodas and snacks? Lmao you wish.

I’ve never been able to price out one of these airlines and find it worth it compared to something like Southwest or even the more traditional airlines. I’m 6’4" so I definitely don’t want a middle seat in their cramped planes. By the time I add everything it’s the same price or more.

Maybe if I ever needed to get just myself and no luggage somewhere on a budget?

    bdonvr,

No, it will probably go to “Documents”, and if you hit tab again it should go to “Downloads”. (Assuming you have the normal default folders)

    bdonvr,

    Just uninstall bash after

    bdonvr,

Lmao I live in Florida, it’s kinda a running joke that most people who live here never go to the beach

Magnetism only feels like magic, because we don't have biological sensors for it

Think about it. Isn’t light+eyes and ears+sound just the same in terms of their “influence at a distance”? We don’t feel that as abnormal or magic - simply because we’ve sensors for them and are used to it. But physically speaking light and magnetism are based on electromagnetic forces.

    bdonvr,

Magnetically sensitive taint here I come!

    bdonvr,

In capitalism, what happens if I - an average citizen - refuses to work?

    bdonvr,

So do you think everyone- or at least the vast majority of people could do this all simultaneously? If they were all smart enough?

    Who then would work?

    bdonvr,

So then are all working class persons just not smart enough, is that what you’re saying? That the small minority of people who can afford to not work are just better, while those who work could stop if only they were smarter?

    bdonvr,

Full time, off of donations and also they are sponsored by some open-source group iirc

    bdonvr,

    !hydrohomies

On the website just type an exclamation and start typing, it’ll suggest communities.

    bdonvr,

    That’s not gonna stop them

    bdonvr,

I used Apollo from the very first day it hit the App Store.

I started a Lemmy instance when they announced Apollo was going under, I hope Lemmy gets there too.

    bdonvr,

American tech is gonna get way more expensive dang

    bdonvr,

Dear god, parallelized excel spreadsheet databases!

    bdonvr,

There have been a few other US defectors to the DPRK, and iirc they weren’t treated terribly. Though they did feel quite isolated culturally, I suppose you must anticipate that before you do something like that.

    bdonvr,

    Country-wide LAN

That is, by definition, a WAN.

    bdonvr,

Far less than they asked for, and did nothing towards meeting their other major demands such as Precision Scheduled Railroading.

If Biden was incapable or unwilling to force the rail companies to give better terms, he should have stayed out of it.

    bdonvr,

They got like 5 sick days out of the 15 they wanted. And zero of their other demands.

    bdonvr,

I’m curious at what point in your thought process did you think that there would be ANY possibility that they’d make going to this hypothetical restaurant mandatory?

It’s like the drag show/drag story time thing. People go to it voluntarily but conservatives still protest and legislate against it.

    bdonvr,

I’m more of a believer in “Piñata economics” myself

How hard is it to build an open source alternative to Duolinguo?

Speaking as a total ignorant from a coding perspective. But I guess that wouldn’t be the hard part, considering that most of Duolinguo is just boxes and text inputs. How difficult it is to create a database of competent linguists with an efficient training who can progressively enhance your understanding of languages?

    bdonvr,

I’m not convinced that model of learning is really effective anyway. At best, it’s a fun-ish time killer where you learn a bit about language.

    bdonvr,

Thanks for the insight. I can see that, maybe a vocabulary builder.

Though I’d bet your time would be better spent doing other things like Anki or consuming media in the language instead, though some people just need/want the gamification.

    bdonvr,

After a certain point you should be able to retain a language for more than a month - after you’ve attained B2ish level I’ve heard.

The End of Privacy is a Taylor Swift Fan TikTok Account Armed with Facial Recognition Tech (www.404media.co)

A viral TikTok account is doxing ordinary and otherwise anonymous people on the internet using off-the-shelf facial recognition technology, creating content and growing a following by taking advantage of a fundamental new truth: privacy is now essentially dead in public spaces....

    bdonvr,

If such tools are going to exist, I suppose I’d rather it be in everyone’s hands not just the state and the powerful.
