I don’t use this place for advertising and only talk about the behind the scenes stuff of running my business. However, it was suggested here that I share my store links, so here they are:
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic I shared the link to your shop with my therapist (they're also autistic) because they love all sorts of fidget toys and autism parephernalia. 👍
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic My special interest has always related to my life stage, where the focus was clear, eg, parenting, studying, teaching etc. But now it looks like I’m retired, & I’m lost.
Hm, that is a potential problem, but nothing that some careful thinking (as in, a few months should suffice 😁 ) can't fix.
Your concern is an important one, and not knowing the answer may cause unnecessary anxiety if, for any reason, you lost your business or ability to work permanenty or for unforeseeable length of time.
It brings peace to have one's identity, sense of self and understanding of self worth based on something that is not dependent on extrenal things. But what that "something" exactly is...that's for you to find out.
I’ve hit a stand still with my YouTube and TikTok accounts. My life is so different from the average person, autistic or not, that I’ve run out of things to say. I see no one, so no masking. All the people I talk to online are autistic, which is my source of socialization. I’m not experienced enough to talk about entrepreneurship, even though I’m 2 years in. Only been full time 1 month. Haven’t had a job since Jan 2022 when I became physically disabled, so nothing to say about workplace stuff.
@ashleyspencer Talk about what you love - not just what you think might be useful or interesting to others. The things that bring you joy will bring others of like minds to you, and the interaction has the further potential to inspire you to create new content.
Do you have music that you listen to over and over again? #AskingAutistics
There’s this one playlist that’s practically the only thing I listen to. It’s motivating and positive things to ingrain in my mind. Haven’t gotten tired of it and the playlist has been growing for over 2 years now.
Occasionally I’ll let the app mix and play music it thinks I’ll like, but mainly the same like 25 to 30 songs. I feel like this is one of my many autistic traits.
Back in the day, I used to listen to the same stuff over and over again out of necessity. Then internet and its endless music catalog allowed me to keep discovering new stuff all the time for years, to a point I would rarely listen to smth twice.
Now though, I seem to enjoy hearing the same stuff on repeat again. For the last year or so I've been mostly listening to my Shatta playlist (a type of dancehall from Martinique) all day.
Does anyone else have sensory issues washing their face?
I’m trying the curology acne treatment because my face has bad acne lately. It comes with a cleanser that you must use 2x daily. Washing my face feels like sensory torture. I’m doing it anyways. Not washing my face or using cleansing wipes is probably what caused the acne.
I was put in swimming lessons for years as a kid but I refused to learn because I didn’t like the feeling of the water on my face.
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic I always loved the water and I like the sensory experience of showering and washing my face/hair. However that is often driven by the sensory ick I get from sweating. I also have trouble forming routines. Took me years to reliably moisturise my face after showering/washing it.
(Note that I'm not faulting The Autistic Innovator or suggesting that this quote be removed.)
Camus was quoting someone else.
"In conclusion, Blanche Balain should receive credit for the remark recorded by Albert Camus in his notebook in 1943. [...] The comment has often been incorrectly attributed to Camus."
She was an actress and a poet, and was Camus' mistress for a while.
