I'm going to throw this out there and it may sound a bit controversial, but keep in mind I have nearly 20 years's experience as an entrepreneur. Is there ANYONE who works with business owners or business owners who don't just regurgitate the same allistic/neurotypical "marketing advice" that's sold all over the groups and "free offers"? Because I'm not seeing anyone doing anything different from the NTs. @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics

@KitMuse @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics I have been self employed. Marketing always felt like Step Right Up by Tom Waits.

@actuallyautistic does anyone else, when they are stressed, have an internal dialogue where they patiently explain how something works as if they were teaching?

I once had a relationship with an AuDHD male. He had a certain trait. It's not very common, but I have heard from people that experience this.
It was scary and it ended the realtionship. He used to get into a form of meltdown where he would be uncontrollably agitated.. Rage, despair, IDK what to call it. It looked like anger. And then he would loose the memory about what had transpired. He did not recall what he had said or how he had behaved. It must be hard to live with this, cus I am sure, it wrecks relationships, period. Now I am curious, have any of you this trait, has anyone experienced this, either in my role or in his? I would be interested to hear more about this. I recently talked to him after many years of silence. It brought this all up. He didn't know about his neurodivergence at the time. And it scared the heck out of him to be hearing me describe, what took place, when he stopped having memory.

Once I was diagnosed I had a hard look at my past self. Decisions I had made, failure after failure, letting down others...
I realized that because of my lack of diagnosis that there was no other choices I could have made. I couldn't have done better because of the environment I was in.
I forgave my self and my family for everything. It took time and effort but then I was done, I was done with the past.

Do you use the word "Neurodivergent"?

Why or why not?

Do you think it's ableist?

If you don't use it, what word do you use?

@eo @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic I like to use neurodiverse for my situation because I have several neurodivergences within myself.

If anyone doesn’t mind much I have a random question!
Not so much a poll, but does anyone else sometimes have the problem of seeing things from too many angles, i was wondering if it worsens by expanding perceptions. I don’t mean in a hallucinations way, it’s just like they kinda contour in almost like a dataset, of theoretical, probability etc.or what could that be like, what could cause that, I know for myself it’s difficult. But rewarding in many ways. Please and thank you

One of the things that made it really hard for me to even consider that I might be autistic was the reputation that (verbal) autistics have for being direct and literal communicators.

I've never felt like I am a particularly direct communicator because of how often I have misunderstandings with people, autistic and allistic alike, for not being direct enough and relying too much on things like context clues and body language to reveal how I'm feeling about a particular thing rather than just coming out and being direct by saying it with words, and I think it's particularly a struggle around issues where there are a lot of mixed emotions and uncertainty around feelings.

@actuallyautistic

aloopapu,

@spika @actuallyautistic if I feel nervous or serious about something I will adopt a more autistic way of talking and reading. Becoming Very literal when others are not causes problems which can put me in a spiral.

Autistic people are often criticised for “reading too much into things” and “assuming” the worst, but usually what we deduce is highly accurate, thanks to our pattern-spotting and dot-connecting abilities. I think the real issue is we typically unearth truths others want to remain hidden.

@GregorGizeh @PlanetOfOrd You're not alone. One of my trademark humor formulas is to take the current topic and make a ridiculous statement. If people don't know me well enough they either think I'm lying for no reason, or are surprised that what I said is a true thing, and then I have to " no not really, I was just trying to make a joke"

aloopapu,
@aloopapu@toot.community avatar

@emperorgormet @PlanetOfOrd I agree I find it helps people if you talk about how things are for you when you are not bringing them a problem.
