I mean, can you share a link, image or context? At least my bookmark from the original website still shown the shutdown message.

Looks interesting! I was waiting for FastForward to hit the Mozilla addon store again to add it to my collection but this looks like a good alternative. Thanks for sharing!

Also for those who are interested there is a very useful option to open links in incognito mode!

Is it possible to install microG on Samsung phone?

I have a samsung A22 which is not supported by any of the foss roms i would like to try, so i started to debloat my phone and logout from google, removing as much propietary software as i can from my phone and replacing by foss alternatives. The only thintg i didnt manage to do is removing google services as i live in a country...

I can confirm as another Samsung user without root.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I honestly don’t know, I didn’t do it manually, I only use F-Droid and 0 Google services and “microG” magically appeared among my installed apps inside F-Droid.

I tried it in my Samsung device but the app is just a blank backgroud with the name of the app in the top left corner. I´m missing something?

Fortunately I live in a country where they don’t care about piracy, but maybe I misspelled the question, I meant “sure” it can’t contain some kind of virus.

And I guess you won the lawsuit? On Reddit I remember that people would commonly say they got those law suits but people would always suggest “don’t do anything about it because they were just warnings”.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Good to know! I know it’s stupid and not at all the case, but I had read about a virus that ran on an old version of Windows when you open a file because Windows needed to compile the file to open it and the exploit took advantage of a vulnerability in that compiler to rescale to admin permissions, and I think about that when downloaded this serie.

For those of you that are on Android, you can use Auto Mute, which is an Open source app that automatically mute the multimedia sound after X amount of time, perfect for this occasions.

As far as I remember, Fennec is a normal Firefox but without the telemetry, and that’s it.

JDownloader, XDM, FileCentipede (this one is the closest to IDM, although it uses closed source libraries), kGet, etc.

Every modded apk I install crashes

I’ve tried every web on the megathread to download modded mobile games but for some reason it doesn’t matter where do I download from they just crash. For example, I have downloaded a game from revdl and it works perfectly, but if I download the same exact version but modded it crashes. Maybe it has to do with MIUI? I have...

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Personally I have used Mobilism for years and it is simply the best site to download apk with pay options unlocked, although sometimes there may be crashes, from my experience can I say it, but it is not the most normal.

Have you checked that the apk you are downloading is compatible with your device? For example, depending on the age of your device and the version of Android you should download apk that are armeabi-v7a (old architecture) or arm64-v8a (newer architecture), although there are also apks that bring all versions in one.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Personally I have never used a Xiomi device to comment on whether it is a problem or not, but maybe it is, maybe it is like Windows Defender that deletes cracked .dll files when installing a pirated program or game and then the program does not start for no reason because of that.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I use it because it is in the Megathread of FMHY, apart from that I have never had problems but obviously you have to use common sense because anyone can upload a file as in any torrent site. My setup is a firewall (RethinkDNS in my case) that blocks internet access to the application as soon as it is installed and suspicious domains, download only from known uploaders like Balatan and do not give permissions blindly, and when in doubt there is VirusTotal.

What open source programs do you recommend for Windows? (Windows exclusive or not)

I am and all my life have been a Linux user, I have nothing against Windows or MacOS, I just like Linux, and lately I have been experimenting with Windows in a virtual machine and I don’t really know much open source software there apart from the one that is cross-platform like Firefox or Joplin....

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oof, just actually installed AltDrag, I can’t live without being able to grab my windows with the super key from anywhere (although in this case the alt).

Thanks for letting me know that there is a fork still maintained.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Of course! In this universe everybody uses linux phones and they are actually usable (and repairable)!

Would you dare to download pirated versions of Linux software?

Lately I have been playing with VMWare, mostly because all my life I have been a Virtualbox user but lately I have been having some problems like the screen looks blurry and the system is not very responsive, and I am massively surprised by the fluidity of VMWare, surely Qemu is similar but I have not tried it....

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The simplest thing in your case is to download it from gog-games (check the Free Media Heck Yeah megathread), because the base game and its DLC are simple .exe, you just install the first .exe of the base game and then continue with the .exe of the DLC.

And personally I don’t use Lutris, but it should be as simple as having a “run” button and you select where you have the .exe,

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Since what you download is a simple .exe it doesn’t matter where you run it, be it Bottles, Heroic or Lutris, but the program should allow you to launch .exe and run them.

Gog-games is simply one of the best download sites for DRM-free games because the installer is a simple .exe, that’s why I recommend it, you don’t need Heroic necessarily but you can use it if you want.

Question about Vaultwarden

Currently I manage my passwords in an archaic but secure way, which is simply to synchronize a directory where I have my Keepass database between my devices, and I say archaic but secure because even if my Nextcloud server hosted on a VPS explode (where I have the database stored) I still have the databases stored locally, so I...

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Awesome, thank you!

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I didn’t mean to make it sound bad, although now that I read it again it sounds bad.

With “archaic” I wanted to refer to the fact that it is not necessarily the most efficient in my opinion, because for example in the case of Nextcloud, to synchronize my Keepass directory with a directory on my phone I need an external app called FolderSync and there is no “Synchronize when detecting changes” option, every time I make a change I must manually synchronize or wait for a scheduled synchronization to take place, and it is not exactly the most efficient, unlike with Bitwarden/Vaultwarden because synchronization is immediate.

And I know that in KeepassDX for example I can directly access my database and load it from there, but every time I make a single change when entering Keepass it says that “I lost connection to the file” (Something like that) and I have to go manually and choose the file again, I would prefer to have my passwords always in sync.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

In the case of Linux I strongly recommend that you never use installers or repacks, which usually have a high probability of failure with Wine in my experience.

I can’t confirm right now because I haven’t downloaded Starfield yet, but try to only use portable versions of games, like the ones Steamrip offers, where you just download a .zip and you’re all set, just run the .exe in Wine and play as if it were Windows.

Although Starfield is currently not available on Steamrip, you can find a portable version of Starfield on Rutracker.

I found a Read Later extension that works in Firefox for mobile!

For a long time I have been looking for an extension where I can “store” or “separate” my open tabs and send them to another place to read them later, and not something like wallabag and not necessarily offline, but simply for example leave saved the url of this post to see it later, without the need for it to be a news....

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yep, that’s right. You need to create a collection on addons.mozilla.org and go to Firefox Beta/Nightly settings and there, go to “About Firefox”, then you must click multiple times on the Firefox icon to activate debug mode, and now you will have enabled the “Custom Add-ons collection” option where you must enter your username and the collection name to install the add-ons in the collections like any other extension.

I didn’t know FastForward but it looks great, in fact Skip Redirect didn’t work on many sites. And I do not know, it is a comment that I have read a lot but I have never been able to confirm, I only know that at least in my case sometimes the counters of some pages go down to 0 suddenly but I do not know if it is because of uBlock.

Xirup, (edited )
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I have been using it since I read your comment and it is absolutely great, not only because of piracy, but also because of the links attached to some Youtube channels.

Some time ago I was looking for a Linux music player (harmonoid.com)

Well, I have to say that Harmonoid is the best one I’ve found, it has a ton of cool features, it works and it allows you to be able to see your collection by album and it doesn’t use Electron. Right now its development has stalled a bit but it’s still pretty much in good shape, though.

If you exclusively use vertical tabs (either with CSS or another way), how is it? Did you miss horizontal tabs at all?

I’m trying to switch to Floorp right now from Firefox, where I have both the regular horizontal tabs, and a flat vertical list with the Tree Style Tab extension. I use the later a lot, and while I could keep this setup in Floorp, I like that the vertical tabs can be native instead of using TST. However, it just feels weird to...

Constant slowdown in Baldur's Gate 3

I downloaded the GOG version (from a secure site) and it runs fine, my PC can handle it and it runs perfectly on medium at a stable 60fps, but sometimes when I play the game it seems “slow”, I can’t really describe it but it’s like the game runs fine at first and then drops below 20fps and when I restart the game it runs...

Thanks for the answer, but I don’t think that can be the issue, since Mangohud says the whole OS is using just 10GB of my 16GB of RAM, although it may be a VRAM issue since I can’t set it up in Mangohud and I can’t monitor it.
