People who read marketing emails, where do you find the time to do so? And why?

I assume there are people who read these things, otherwise companies wouldn’t send me so many of them. I seem to get daily spam from literally any company I’ve ever interacted with in any way, and they are long boys full of text and pictures that Thunderbird helpfully hides from me but I presume are full of jagged brightly...

Didn’t know about SponsorBlock until all this started. So many just found out ad blocking is possible.

I watch YT about once a week and usually an hour or less. Premium isn’t worth it for that low of use. Sponsors, I skipped, always. I’ve never once purchased from a sponsor. I also skipped subscribe crap manually (I’m not logged in, I can’t).

SponsorBlock just does it for me, kinda nice. The creator gets paid by viewership so I have helped when I watch.

Lemmy isn’t seen by 98% of the public so my mentioning it hardly spreads further awareness. What did spread it was YT themselves cracking down. It made news headlines and my own mother asked I come over and install one.

YT Streisand Effected themselves. They demanded we not use them and got more people using them because of it.

Now, my mom won’t see Google ads anywhere, not just YT. What a smart move because I know there’s probably a million new UBlock users.

Holy crap, now that is causing massive damage to advertisers. I didn’t know this existed either. If everyone used it, the entire internet would collapse because most of it is for-profit now, unlike 30 years ago (when I made my first site in notepad).

After reading all this stuff, I stopped advertising and have started going to independent sources for traffic. Advertising on podcasts has been fruitful.

Yeah, I see why, it’s the same audience. Your first ad run will be your biggest performer and it diminishes from there.

You have to cast wider and be infrequent with your ads. It’s been a learning curve.

There’s a lot of traffic out there to find but yeah, a lot of that traffic is from social and search, which gives you as an advertiser 3rd tier quality results if you advertise on websites.

Having to get creative. Need to pay sites that monitor traffic and find the ones that get a lot of direct traffic. Now getting an ad on those sites has been tough too. It’s been a grind but worth it so far.

Hate crimes are on the increase everywhere. People still have serious problems with other people having a different skin color.

Only now they’ve found internet communities to reenforce those biases to make it seem normal.

I stopped using Chrome about 3 weeks ago. Used Edge for a while but finding out that is Chromium, I landed back on Firefox after 10 years of not using it. Just moved all my bookmarks and plugins.

Why? Principles the moment people force me to use their software is the moment I leave.
