Taniwha420,

You know, it’s kind of like this with land. Laws around Adverse Possession (Squatter’s Rights) are basically the legal framework for taking possession of land when someone has so much land or are so absentee that you can use it without them noticing. Generally, if you you can use their land openly and they don’t challenge you, after a set period it’s yours.

Don’t know how this would work with money, but it’s interesting that you can legally take someone’s property if they have too much to manage it properly and you need it.

Taniwha420,

I’ve heard this story before, but never registered the date: December 25th, 1937. Having played in Boxing Day rugby matches, and considering holiday “sport” matches in general I’m going to make a couple reasonably informed guesses. 1) The goalie was drunk. Quite drunk. Everyone was drunk. 2) Everyone was still on the field … drinking, the goalie just didn’t realise they weren’t playing any more because he couldn’t see them.

Taniwha420,

… with FAS? FAS gives people eyes like that, doesn’t it? It looks like she has a pretty flat upper lip too. That might be part of the reason she looks … off. And obviously, that haircut is doing her no favours.

Taniwha420,

It’s rad. Carnage from the very beginning.

Taniwha420,

Yeah, I was like, “Shit. Looks like they got their hands on a container of old Eagle II kit planes.”

Taniwha420,

You can express your feelings to other men. In my experience, it’s women who will crucify you for it.

Taniwha420,

I discovered one lighter that no one will steal from me. They’ll give it back to me a week later when we run into each other. It’s a Toronto Maple Leafs lighter. I buy them whenever I see them now.

Taniwha420,

I was thinking about Marie Kondo. I believe she touched on something deep and spiritual there. We have a problem with utilitarianism and materialism in Western society. The distress we experience when throwing things out is the result of the disconnect between our attachment to an object, and the ‘knowledge’ that it’s “just a thing”. Marie gave people permission to formally end a relationship with the thing, which at least allows for some closure.

It’s probably psychologically healthier, and the environment would probably be in better condition, if we interacted with ‘things’ as beings worthy of our thanks. (In the end, a utilitarian argument.)

Taniwha420,

There are great whites that have been spotted up off the northern coast of Vancouver Island in BC when the currents are right. I don’t know about attacks, but the possibility is there.

Taniwha420,

I’ve heard that if you already speak English, then French is the best global second language to get because you can get by in so many Spanish speaking countries with English.

Taniwha420,

Hmm … Think it might depend if you want the largest instrument of people or destinations. Mandarin might add a large instrument of people, but it’s not going to be that useful outside of China … and there are more English speakers in China than in the rest of the world.

Taniwha420,

… I think it’s actually a Latin word, “re,”, meaning, “the matter (subject)” not an abbreviation at all.

Taniwha420,

The Foreword? Or is that answer? Forward in English would be the author’s message at the beginning of a book.

Taniwha420,

Food is getting so adulterated it is becoming cheaper and more satisfying to just cook everything from scratch. After using the homemade versions, I can’t go back … especially at the cost of pre-prepared stuff.

Taniwha420,

THIS is immediately thought about: the Danes are in no position to be criticising ridiculous ceremonial garb. Also, that’s exactly the kind of self-assured arrogance I’d expect from a German. Also, ok, SOME Dutch are gorgeous, but the rest look like someone replaced their head with a milk crate.

Taniwha420,

I love that it’s the cop that looks like he’s got the opiate lean going on in this photo.

Taniwha420,

Not the point of the post, but I was part of evacuating a camp that burned in that fire pictured above. All the infrastructure is just toast. It’s all gone. We were sitting underneath the huge plume of smoke. We had to evacuate North through Vernon and it was crazy coming back South into Kelowna in the night and seeing the extent of the flames across the lake.
