Starfield, Diablo 4, and Tears of the Kingdom for me.

Starfield was a hard pass at 30FPS on my Series X. But also, the gameplay and story just didn’t interest me at all.

Diablo 4 was monotonous. Grinding for hours to get a percentage of a percentage increase on gear was not fun. I’ve played every other Diablo game along with numerous other action RPGs of that style, but D4 is a snorefest. It’s frustrating being chain stunned by all the crowd control, it’s frustrating that a lot of enemies have a lot of health for no reason, and it’s bland when you face the same few bosses over and over again. It wasn’t so bad in the other Diablo games because you could just nuke the bosses, but in D4 each one is a straight up chore to kill.

Tears of the Kingdom… it’s a fun action adventure game, but if it has The Legend of Zelda on it, it needs to be held to The Legend of Zelda standards. And it, just like Breath of the Wild, is an awful Zelda game. If it didn’t have LoZ on it, I’d probably rate it much higher.

I was just a tech-obsessed teenager who thought it seemed cool. Messed around with it but since gaming was a pain in the ass I shelved it and went to Windows. Eventually administering Linux systems became my career.

Windows 11 is hot garbage. I haven’t had anything outright break, but with my hardware my machine should not be as slow as it is. Installed Ubuntu since it’s what I messed around with as a teenager and here we are.

However, now that gaming is even relatively painless in Linux, it’s here to stay on my personal desktop. A couple tools still require a Windows install but 90% of my usage is Linux and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

EDIT: I wouldn’t say I’m an evangel or anything. I don’t preach Linux to people, nor would I want to get my friends and family into it. The last thing I want to do is troubleshoot their botched install because they fucked around with system files and broke something.

I wouldn’t really say I’m obsessed either, it’s an OS. It allows me to actually do the things I want to do, and quickly. I enjoy it but I don’t plan on distro hopping, making low level tweaks, or anything. It just works and lets me work and play games. That’s good enough for me.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Game Maker is still only in beta for Linux. They warn against working on serious projects on it because it can just randomly break them.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

You know what? Ubuntu. There I said it.

I’ve been using it since 2007 - 7.04 was my first foray into Linux ever. At present day it’s been the most “it just works” distro for me. I installed it and… that’s it. Everything just worked.

I don’t care about the “ads” in the terminal. I don’t care that it’s “bloated” (even the most bloated distro is less bloated than Windows).

If a company is porting their software to Linux, chances are they’re focusing on Ubuntu. Not Debian. Not Mint. Ubuntu.

If something isn’t working, chances are there’s a community post about it with a working solution.

It’s cool that distro hopping is a hobby for a lot of people. It isn’t for me. I want no bullshit, just set it up and let it work so I can focus on doing stuff within the OS, not setting up and fine tuning the OS itself day in and day out. And for me that’s Ubuntu.

Remember when Oblivion’s $2.50 horse armor was laughed at? It still sold like hotcakes. This is the result of that.

Cough up, idiots who have more dollars than they do sense. While you’re at it I also have some real estate on the moon to sell you. Or maybe your own star. Too far away? Okay, maybe just some NFTs then.

It won’t be long before the MTX crosses from cosmetics to actual cut content. Want more levels past the first one? Pony up.

Wow. Amateur hour over here. There’s a much easier way to write this.

A case select:

<span style="color:#323232;">select(number){
</span><span style="color:#323232;">    case 1:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">        return false;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">    case 2:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">        return true;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">}
</span>

And so on.

No support for the Z Flip series. Lame. Still would be useful to use as a desktop monitor or something.

Skyline969,

It’s unfathomably stupid that Samsung removed it for the Flip series, but I suspect it was a cost cutting measure.

Google search results are literally the only time I read Reddit content these days, and I’m sure I’m not alone in that regard. They’re going to lose so many views if they block their content on Google.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

I thought that too. And then nothing happened when Reddit killed third party apps. The Reddit userbase will continue to bend and spread. As long as Spez spits on it first, they’ll continue to take it.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

And we’re a drop in the bucket compared to the Reddit userbase. A rounding error. Some impact we made.

Instead of deep throating a shotgun people are getting an injection and going to sleep and never waking up. Get rid of MAID and there will just be more suicides by other means.

MAID isn’t the problem. People being trapped in our shit economy with no way out is the problem.

Bedbug is frankly a misnomer. They will go anywhere people are inactive for periods of time - beds, couches, chairs, benches… any and all furniture.

Oh, and vehicles. You can get them from an Uber, a taxi, or a bus too.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

I mean it’s Exputer, do they even have human writers?

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Not in a position to say. But I can say that, anecdotally, they’re always high on searches and contribute very little.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Awesome! I look forward to also never seeing it in stock anywhere.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

I mean, yes but also no. There’s just way too many people, period. Merely 60 years ago the human population was sitting around 3 billion people. Now it’s 8. Earth’s resources are finite, and at this rate of growth I would not be surprised if we ran out of non-renewables (with no renewable alternatives that scale as well as non-renewables) in our lifetime or our children’s.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s because these companies keep driving up production costs on their own. Their next game has to top their last. At what point do we say that graphics are good enough? Who needs these insane amount of details? Why does a game absolutely need to be 100+GB in size? Is Bloodborne not visually appealing enough? What about God of War (2018)?

Can we not find a “good enough” acceptable baseline and just work with that? This infinite growth is annoying as both a developer and a player. Like okay, ooooh, you can render each individual hair on someone’s head and they each have their own physics. Congratulations. How’s the story for the game? Ah, broken to the point of unplayable, but you pinky swear a patch is coming.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

I didn’t decide to pirate when games went from $70 to $80 (CAD). I didn’t decide to when they went from $80 to $90. I decided to when, on top of that price, I also am encouraged via predatory tactics (such as matchmaking intentionally matching you up with players who have all of this nonsense so you can “see what you’re missing”) to buy a deluxe edition, season pass, monthly battlepass, “cosmetic only” microtransactions, second season pass, additional DLC not part of any season pass, and whatever other crap they want to nickel and dime their playerbase into buying. All just to actually get the full content of the game. Remember when games had the full game when you bought it? Maybe an expansion pack that had a substantial amount of content that was developed and released after the game was released?

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Why not both?

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Let’s say you buy an Xbox Series S. At the current going rate of games, you can fit four, maybe five games on the thing, assuming you don’t play older or indie titles. You can buy an external USB hard drive, sure, but you can’t play games off it. You’d have to awkwardly shuffle games around any time you wanted to play something else. Wanna expand it with storage that can actually be played off of? You need to pay the same cost as the console for proprietary storage.

It’s different on PC and PS5 since you can upgrade storage relatively easily but even then, a 1TB NVMe disk can hold a maximum of 10 games at today’s storage requirements. Want something bigger? Get ready to shell out some serious cash.

Storage has not kept up with file size. And to be fair, 4k HDR Remux files are just as bad. You can’t tell me the average person can even tell the difference from a 1080p WebRip (a fraction of the size) and one of them. Not unless you’ve got the high end hardware to make use of it, and I highly doubt the average person is shelling out the $5000+ required for that to be a thing.

My tabby looks up at me, meows, and flops onto her side for belly rubs when she first sees me in the morning. When she’s had her fill, she gently pushes my hand away with her back paws. It’s so cute!

Hypothetically, a Sonarr/Radarr/Usenet/Plex setup is looking reeeeeeeeeeeeal nice right now.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Well if a person wanted to use Usenet to download news and totally nothing else, they would need two things - a Usenet provider and an indexer. Both cost an annual fee, but it’s less than $100.

Newshosting for Usenet access, this gets configured in nzbget or sabnzbd as a news server. Then NZBGeek gets configured in Sonarr and Radarr as an indexer.

Enjoy your glorious news!

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

Nope! The reason you need a VPN for torrents is because you’re also sharing the content. That’s how you’re tracked, mainly. Someone downloads a piece of your Linux ISO, they know you’ve got it.

Use SSL with Usenet and your traffic is encrypted. Good to go.

My cat is broken. Any amount of food put in front of her will be eaten as quickly as possible. Even if it makes her puke from being too full. She has zero self-regulation. She’s a former street cat so maybe that’s where she gets it from?

The only way I prevent her from inhaling her food in literally (I timed it - literally) 30 seconds is her lick mat. Mush her raw food into the mat so she has to lick it up instead of just smashing her face into a wad of meat. Now it takes her maybe a minute and a half.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

She’s had multiple rounds of deworming. My vet has given her a clean bill of health, but yet she still eats all food like it’s the last in the world.

It’s going to be a challenge eventually - my girlfriend has two cats that free feed. If we move in together, my cat is going to need to learn to chill the hell out or we’re going to need to get one of those smart feeders and only authorize her cats.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

My cat used to eat any amount of garbage bag that hung over the edge of my garbage can. Got her on a mineral supplement, that issue went away relatively quickly. It’s cheap too - I think the supplement I got was $15 or so. Been giving her some every day for six months or so and I still have a third of a can left.

Skyline969,
@Skyline969@lemmy.ca avatar

So how does that work? Connecting them just discharges yours and charges hers until both battery levels are more or less even?

Elon Musk demanded a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 while wielding a 200 year old gun: "I was armed but not dangerous" (www.pcgamer.com)

While Elon’s then-partner Grimes was recording her part in the game as cyborg popstar Lizzy Wizzy, the erratic tech billionaire turned up with an antique firearm to “insist” on being included in the game. “The studio guys were like sweating,” Grimes is quoted as saying. Musk adds “I told them that I was armed but not...
