Sarcasmo220,

Sad, but true

Sarcasmo220,

I agree with that as well. I ride a cruiser and I wear a full face helmet, jacket, boots or shoes covering the ankles, and at least thick denim pants. Sometimes I think about getting a 3/4 helmet but I don’t think I could bring myself to do it.

When I was real hardcore riding everyday I wore waterproof jacket, pants, and boots. Now I just don’t ride in the rain at all if I can help it.

Is it possible to flash a new OS onto an old iPad 2?

I bought an old iPad2 for the purpose of viewing a Home Assistant dashboard via a web browser. My thinking was that the ability to browse the web was the sole requirement for a tablet for this purpose, but I was wrong: Home Assistant’s web pages apparently require a newer version of javascript than iOS 9.3.5 can handle, but...

Sarcasmo220,

I think its reasonable to assume a perfectly functioning, yet old, piece of hardware could be repurposed. We have all just grown accustomed to mega corporations’ design of planned obsolescence; when maybe we shouldn’t be.

Sarcasmo220,

True, no one was arguing against repurposing, and I wasn’t accusing you of such.

Your comment said the answer was not to purchase an old iPad and use the money to get a cheap modern android tablet. My response was just to point out that not everyone may be aware of the planned obsolescence, and the particularly aggressive stance Apple takes.

Although if the OP found Lemmy I guess there should be some assumption of being knowledgeable about the tech world 😅

Sarcasmo220,

Do you have insurance or, if not, does your state provide Medicaid to low income individuals? If you have private insurance I would recommend looking up therapists and maybe even psychiatrists who are covered by your insurance. If you have Medicaid your county probably has a behavioral health department that can provide some help.

If no to both, you can call 9-8-8 and ask for behavioral health resources that are available. in your area. You can also call that number to talk about your depressing and self harming thoughts if you feel like you want to give your friends and family a break.

Sarcasmo220,

When I was in middle school I got into at least two fights in an outdoor stage that was in plain view from all the windows in the admin office. No security, teachers, or anyone else ever noticed.

I’d like to think it was more because they were these small fights where no one got seriously hurt, rather than the staff not caring at all.

Sarcasmo220,

The commute is only 20 minutes? Is that society or a utopia?

Sarcasmo220,

I relate to this all too much

Sarcasmo220,

I advocate to expand people’s thinking of the fantasy genre beyond the usual Euro-centric elves, dwarves, and wizards type stuff.

As such, a fantasy book I recommend is based off of Persian magic and setting is called The Wrath and the Dawn. It is based off of the Arabian Nights legend of that region.

Well, my other recommendation is not a book because it was a web comic, BUT, it fits the fantasy genre. What makes it unique is the fantasy elements are based off of Aztec gods and magic. It is called Leyendas: www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/leyendas/list?title_no…

There is another fantasy web comic with middle eastern elements called Suihira The City of Water: www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/…/list?title_no=39385

Sarcasmo220,

But that is sort of why it’s the first step. You were using Windows and were bothered with ads. So you may have looked into an alternative you heard about called Linux. You are new to Linux and maybe ask some questions on forums and interact with people from all over the world that are taking time out of their day to help you, which gives you a sense of community. Then you learn that Linux is licensed as Open Source Software, and that people are working together to create something for the benefit of people, not for profits. Then you start to wonder, what else in my life that bothers me is a result of profit motivation?

Sarcasmo220,

Everyone sort of enforces the rules as they see fit now. The difference is there is an expectation to not resist when someone is abusing their power because they are an authority figure. Under anarchism, it is your peers holding each other accountable, and your right to question actions against you is accepted.

Sarcasmo220,

The problem with this argument is that the risk for someone taking advantage of the situation to accumulate power is the same under any system. I would rather take that risk for an economic system that aims to treat everyone more fairly than for one that, by design, sends wealth up to a select few who hoard it.

Sarcasmo220,

I don’t stop with authoritarianism as the only measure of people being oppressed. There are a ton of ways USA citizens are being oppressed. We just vote for who our oppressors are.

“Dictatorships are inherently unstable: you can slaughter, imprison, and brainwash entire generations and their children will invent the struggle for freedom anew. But promise every man a chance to impose the will of the majority upon his fellows, and you can get them all together behind a system that pits them against each other.” Source

Sarcasmo220,

This is true and sort of adds to my point. If I am going to risk being oppressed oppressed anyways, I might as well risk it for a system that, if done halfway decent, can lead to more fair distribution of resources. Currently a lot of wealth is being funneled into the hands of a few.

Sarcasmo220,

Don’t forget its not just man-hours, but man-lives too

Sarcasmo220,

I have even better news if you live in the USA. The unemployment rate increased so the rich people can finally hire for lower wage and increase their profit margins…I mean the economy can finally get a handle on inflation

Sarcasmo220,

It won’t be as good as native hardware support, but you can buy a device to add wireless charging. It plugs into the phone USB-C and has a short flexible cable leading into a thin (1 mm maybe) wireless charger receiver that can fit inside a phone case

Sarcasmo220,

I love that this comic was meme-fied

Sarcasmo220,

Proof that reality is a simulation. I just rewatched the first episode last night and today this meme appears.

Sarcasmo220,

According to the webcomic Adventures of God, there is a special place in hell for people who give out raisins instead of candy on Halloween

Sarcasmo220,

Is that a pedestrian symbol or the chalk outline of a pedestrian who got hit?

Sarcasmo220,

I always check to save it in the Downloads folder but I swear that sometimes it puts it someplace random

Sarcasmo220,

I get wanting a distro to look modern and cool by default. One that I like a lot that uses a modified KDE is Nitrux nxos.org

fernandolins, to linux
@fernandolins@mastodon.cloud avatar

I would like to help an open-source project with UI design and UX design. I have over 18 years of experience in the field and have worked with desktop and mobile software on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile/Windows Phone. Unfortunately my knowledge of Linux is very limited but I'm eager to learn. Could you help me find a project? @thelinuxEXP @linux @macrumors @windowscentral @windows

Sarcasmo220,

There are already a lot of great suggestions posted already. I thought I would toss in mauikit.org which is working in making a convergent UI for desktop and apps.

Sarcasmo220,

I’m not sure what you mean. The project is developing a framework to help make the UI convergent.

Sarcasmo220,

Not just the Philippines. AT&T’s broadband service in the USA comes with a data cap. One of the reasons why I dropped them. Always good to read the fine print.

Sarcasmo220,

More like information superhighway robbery 😉

Sarcasmo220,

Although Mac OS X was used as a roman numeral when it first launched. It lost all meaning when they added the code names to it.

Sarcasmo220,

Indeed. I was just referring to the years it was OS X

Sarcasmo220,

Welcome to Linux, the Fediverse, and FOSS communities! Never be afraid to ask for help. We were all newbies once.

Sarcasmo220,

You taught your brother well! I’m glad he is having a positive experience with it.

Sarcasmo220,

For me its how quickly people reply to a comment. It used to take hours and now there’s a reply in seconds

Sarcasmo220,

That’s all I ever use IMDB for. Especially for voice actors.

Sarcasmo220,

So they are nerdy enough to know Star Wars but not nerdy enough to know what HTML is?

Sarcasmo220,

I’m just aging myself. That wasn’t always the case.

Sarcasmo220,

I certainly agree it was successful, and that it wowed audiences on it’s release (not that I witnessed first hand, I’m not THAT old). However, from what I remember popular media often depicted anyone interested in sci-fi (including Star Wars), comics, videogames, etc., as nerds.

That’s all I’m saying.

Sarcasmo220,

I didn’t know they were planning a gaming laptop. That would be nice because I do some gaming but bot enough to want to buy a whole new rig every couple of years. Having a modular means to upgrade it would hopefully make it more affordable.

Sarcasmo220,

It’s a question worth asking, for sure.

Sarcasmo220,

Firefox is installed by default on my Linux distro, though

Has anyone used or contributed to OpenStreetMap?

I’ve tried using it over the years but I never liked it because there was no information. So last night I looked at my local city and there is almost no information at all. I spent a few hours last night adding buildings and restaurants and removing incorrect items. It was actually kind of fun and therapeutic and I plan to do...

Sarcasmo220,

I’ve used it, but mostly to contribute as the data for my area is sparse as well. I find it fun to map the areas I visit. I haven’t added recently because I am using a mobile Linux device and I haven’t found an application to easily contribute.
