Rodeo,

Do you know how to program already?

I don’t know about those tuts in particular, but a lot of gamedev tuts assume a working knowledge of programming.

Rodeo,

If you had let me go down to the corner store to buy clean dope legally, … I legitimately believe I would have gotten clean much sooner.

I don’t use hard drugs, but I am addicted to weed.

During the times when it is easy to access, I simply do it more.

Rodeo,

You can’t remove the substance from the equation entirely like that. Yes there are a lot of other problems too, but pretending meth or fentanyl or whatever isn’t harmful on its own is not helping.

Remember the drugs are usually the catalyst that get people on the street. People can hold it together right up until they become addicted, then the substance makes everything worse.

Rodeo,

It’s not a problematic addiction. At least at the moment. But it is an addiction nonetheless.

Rodeo,

Stealing requires the belief that other people can own things. They are simply taking what is rightfully theirs. Birds are billionaires.

Rodeo,

They are related but not that closely. They share the same taxonomic family, but not the same genus. It’s like saying a fallow deer and a moose are very closely related. Or a panda and a grizzly.

Rodeo,

Was that on a system 76 computer? Because it would be fuckin hilarious if they were doing the same scummy shit Microsoft does.

Rodeo,

What is there figure out? You install wine and double click the exe. It’s not 2003 anymore.

Rodeo,

So you’re saying Linux is a cuckold?

Rodeo,

Well I used it last year and had no trouble at all.

Rodeo,

Thanks for reaffirming my desire to never get married

Rodeo,

This seems to me more a problem of people wanting to much.

At my cousin’s wedding the bride made her own cake. And they didn’t want a huge wedding so it only had to feed like 20 people instead 100.

The problem here is the absurd extravagance that people want in a wedding.

Rodeo,

Oh no, I’d never do something as stupid as getting married.

Rodeo,

I laughed, then I cried.

Rodeo,

But the fact that you might remember the name of a certtain product when you go to the store and buy that type of cereal

I would look for the knockoff brand that’s cheaper.

or simply yearning for a certain type of phone or shoes or car

I used to do this when I was younger, but now the things I want are based in pragmatism. I didnt want my Toyota matrix because I saw an ad about how safe and efficient they are; I wanted it because it is statistically one of the most reliable vehicles produced in the last 20 years. I did my reading and looked at data analyses and chose what I wanted based on the facts.

Rodeo,

So if a person sees an iPhone ad and goes and buys an android instead, the iPhone ad still worked on them because “mindshare”?

Are you sure it has nothing to do with the fact that smartphones are in integral part of daily life for people? Any adult knows they basically need one regardless of any ads they might have seen.

Rodeo,

Those are all obvious and well known methods. Not really sneaky as you seem to think.

Like you say, vigilance.

Rodeo,

It’s a dangerous command because a single > destroys your .bashrc.

This is why you have a dotfiles repository, you noob!

Rodeo,

Good old conky lol. Its like it was made to be a config playground, and the actual functionality was an afterthought.

Rodeo,

Is this actually the original use of that sentence?

Rodeo,

Fuckin amazing. I actually believed you and had to look it up lmao

Rodeo,

I don’t think adding heat is a special circumstance like adding pressure is. It’s very easy to add heat to something. Adding pressure means building a sealed environment to enclose it’s, and some specialized equipment to increase the pressure.

Adding heat requires that you burn something. That’s it.

Rodeo,

It’s such a stupid thing to not work. If you’re looking for a specific webpage or even an error code or something it’s just impossible now.

Rodeo,

If, say, some company wanted to offer a product at a discount, but only wanted to offer that discount to a certain category of person for some reason

That’s literally how the entire insurance industry works in the first place. So I wonder, is there a special exception that insurance companies get that Facebook does not?

Rodeo,

Karate is the opposite of tae Kwon do. You stand on your hands and only do punches.

Rodeo,

The Dark Knight fits that summation perfectly.

US sues Amazon.com for breaking antitrust law and harming consumers (www.reuters.com)

WASHINGTON, Sept 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a long-awaited antitrust lawsuit against Amazon.com (AMZN.O) on Tuesday, charging the online retailer with harming consumers through higher prices in the latest U.S. government legal action aimed at breaking Big Tech’s dominance of the internet....

Rodeo,

And they only ever ship via UPS or some courier that fucks you with extra fees at the door and won’t deliver if you’re not there to receive it. Also they conveniently deliver only during regular working hours when people aren’t home. Also they cost twice as much as Canada post. Also they’ll simply return your item to the seller and keep the money you paid for shipping without even fucking delivering it because they “tried” to deliver it when you weren’t home.

I will buy a company’s product on Amazon instead of on their own site just so it can be shipped by Canada post and show up in the mailbox like a normal fucking parcel.

Rodeo,

Inherit a business that been successful for over a hundred years, and be the one to fuck it up so badly they have to close it down? Maybe they should feel bad.

I have no sympathy for anyone inheriting entire businesses.

Rodeo,

So that you can get paid less and still have to shoulder all the blame?

C levels don’t have to take responsibility except when it makes them look good.

Rodeo,

What a strange statement.

$10B+ companies, but at <$99MM

What about companies between $100m and $9.99b?

it’s still much safer to draw a salary.

But ceos do pay themselves salaries.

This barely even makes sense and I really don’t get what point you’re trying to make.

Rodeo,

See the problem here is you let them play you.

As soon a as company contacts you, ask the wage. They’ll dodge the question, so you say “I notice you didn’t answer my question about the wage, so what’s the wage?” And you keep asking and they keep dodging until one of two things happens:

  1. They say “we’re looking for someone who is motivated by more that just money.” And then you say “well people work for money, however I am also motivated by other forms of compensation like pensions and profit sharing.”
  2. They ask you to come in for an interview, and you say “I can’t take the time to come in for an interview when you haven’t even told me the wage yet.”

It seems pretty clear you didn’t need those jobs, so why are you playing along?

Rodeo, (edited )

My neighbor bought a wifi enable rat trap the other day. It notifies her when it’s been triggered and send a picture of the cage.

A fucking rat trap and she felt the need to spend and extra $40 just so she can share her rat infestation data.

Rodeo,

No it’s not.

Phones have costed hundreds of dollars or even over a thousand and have been doing this for over a decade.

Rodeo,

I don’t use the cloud and I also don’t self host.

Occasionally I have to put up with a minor inconvenience like putting a file on a USB stick and carry that physical USB stick with me. The horrific inconvenience! How do I survive

Rodeo,

This was an electric one. Plugs into the wall and shocks them dead when they walk on it. Quite clean actually, not sure how humane it’s supposed to be though.

Rodeo,

There is a specific order that _enter_tree and _ready get called in. When the nodes enter the tree, _enter_tree is called in descending order, when all the nodes have called that, _ready calls begin in ascending order.

Thus, a child’s _ready callback is called before its parent’s. But the parent has _enter_tree called first.

But I don’t think this is the issue here.

Rodeo,

It’s not breaking, you’re just doing something wrong.

Rodeo,

You pay for premium and they’re still serving you ads?

Every day I feel better about never having used Spotify.

Rodeo,

The government is elected by the people.

And controlled by the wealthy. You don’t really think your local representative cares what you think, do you? Because that would be laughably naive.

They care what their lobbyists and major donors think.

Rodeo,

I think he was just complimenting her breasts. Did you reply to the wrong person maybe?

Rodeo,

I can’t tell if that’s an insult or a compliment lol

Rodeo,

It was hammered into me during childhood that thank you is the only polite response to a compliment.

I still think it’s rude not to say it. And I absolutely hate it when people say “I know.”

Rodeo,

Maybe she was trying to date you?

Rodeo,

I for one am with you on denouncing sensationalism.

The situation is bad enough on its own that such sensationalism is not necessary.

Trudeau takes first step to break Canada’s addiction to rising home prices - The Globe and Mail (www.theglobeandmail.com)

At last, someone from the world of politics is being honest about a pervasive and harmful trade-off. When home prices rise faster than earnings, owners like me gain wealth, while non-owners lose because their incomes fall further behind housing costs....

Rodeo,

You seem to have simply forgotten about the NDP.

Rodeo,

The problem is that idea of “strategic” voting only exacerbates the problems with fptp. If everyone voted for who they wanted, NDP would be getting a lot more votes.

Strategic voting is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Canadian sisters charged with fraud for claiming Inuit status (ottawa.ctvnews.ca)

Two sisters from Kingston and their adoptive mother have been charged by Iqaluit RCMP with two counts each of fraud over $5,000 following an investigation into allegations they falsely claimed to be Inuit in order to receive a benefit as adopted Inuit children through Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporation (NTI)....

Rodeo,

So what’s the test to find out if they really are Inuit? Is there a genetic test, or is it all just lineage? Does culture play a role?

This seems ripe for some identity debate.

Rodeo,

Funny, despite your clever picture, I don’t seem to be the one suffering in this exchange.
