I'm autistic, so I guess it's natural that I will never, ever be able to understand exactly when is the correct time to add my point to a group conversation.

Watching the conversation move onto a totally different topic, while a really good point is left unsaid, is a very specific autistic sadness.

Giving things time is the key management activity we do on our

But while we can't beat time we can optimize some circumstances.

One example: leaving fallen* trees in place helps kickstart natural decaying processes. This gives room for species that aren't found in a pure production growth.

*some with help 😉🌲🌳

It's interesting to see how in just a couple of years species diversity has significantly grown with a handful of these basic changes in management.

Large tree that blew over in a storm in 2022. It's there to stay.
Root trunk and main trunk of a large pine that fell during a 2021 winter storm. It's still very dry so doesn't have a lot of stuff growing in it. The outside is already home to some stuff
Old log, probably from the 2010 partial clearcut before we owned the land. Among other things there's a bunch of woody fungi growing on it.

@jalcine @KarenBethany @BigAngBlack @JizzelEtBass @ProPublica @BlackMastodon @blackmastodon This year I used software on the IRS site -- it may be the same as Jacky is pointing to. It only handled fairly simple cases (which mine was last year), but it cost nothing for federal or state (CA), and I could print the forms and mail them in if I wanted (which my son has been unable to do using the TurboTax "free" service).
