You build a bridge and do they call you Drath'nor the Bridge Builder? You educate the young and so they call you Drath'nor the Teacher? You protect your sheep in a storm and do they call you Drath'nor the Shepard?

No

But you make ONE dodgy curry for the village...

I'll explain for you in case you're not trolling. We must All Cops Are Bastards because enough of them are and there is little enough oversight that when some of them do something wrong they get away with it far too often. It is therefore self defence to never trust a cop because they can fuck your life up six ways to Sunday and suffer no repercussions of note. ACAB does not mean there are no good cops, it means we must assume any given cop is a bad cop because one false negative has the potential to go so far wrong.

Your even spicier take is actually just bonkers. It's not a uniquely US thing, no, but it is not designed to do anything but protect us the non-cops!

ReCursing,
@ReCursing@kbin.social avatar

it’s no different than being racist.

People choose to be cops. People don't choose to be black. Cops choose to shoot people for being black.

Some cops may join for good reasons, but the institution as a whole is so corrupt and full of "one bad apple"s, coupled with them necessarily dealing with the worst in society and also non-cops that they soon fall prey to the environment and become awful themselves.

Be safe, assume ACAB

No, but okay... but why do you hell do you care what the person in the stall next to you is doing? Are you watching?

I'm inclined to think this is correct. I don't know what she does look like but that person looks like they would have a deeper voice than she does

The phrase "a lot of money" means two very different things here. The difference in scale between illegal immigrants and the jobless, and the oligarchs, is so many orders of magnitude that's the difference between them and you is near nothing. Billionaires are not just a little bit richer than you, they have more hoarded than you will make in your lifetime, while illegal immigrants and jobless are more than likely worse off than you and if they're not you should be shouting to improve your lot not shouting to worsen theirs

A quick google search shows that the total the UK spent on unemployment benefits last year was £1,860,000,000, and on illegal immigration cost £3,000,000,000. Meanwhile Rishi Sunak (our prime minister) and his wife are worth about £1,200,000,000 between them. The median net worth in the UK is apparently £302,500 - that means Sunak and his wife have NEARLY FOUR THOUSAND TIMES more money than most people in the UK, or, if you subtract one from the other, about £1,200,000,000 more money than the average UK household. The Sunak family could literally count most net worth as a rounding error!

Scale on that... well... scale is hard for humans to grasp, but it really does matter in this case

Now I'm not saying he should pay for all of it personally, but he should certainly stop making a song and dance about it and pay his own fair share! The average UK household paid about £55,641 in tax last year. Rishi Sunak pair £1,900,000. Yes that's more but it's only 34 times more. Lets be generous and assume that his wife paid twice as much so it;s 100 times more (she doesn't, she's officially non-domiciled and therefore pays about £30,000 to avoid paying UK tax of potentially £20,000,000 in tax), that's still about 2.5% percent of the average taxation as a percentage of net worth.

This should make you angry

What are some FOSS programs that you think are a far better user experience than their counterparts? (sh.itjust.works)

I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

KDE is better than Windows

Audible Audacity is more audio programme than most people need

KdenLive is more video editor than most people need

Kritta is more art programme than most people need

There are edge cases where there are professional programmes that might be better but unless you are a professional you do not need them and even semi-pros would likely be better served by those three

Greetings, fellow #Linux users. Have you stopped your distro hopping endeavors?

ReCursing,
@ReCursing@kbin.social avatar

I'm on Manjaro KDE with no complaints, and don't see any reason to move any time soon. Mostly I want my OS to do its thing and not bother me, so Linux is the only option, and KDE because i've been using it on and off since like 1.3 or something. Before that it was Windowmaker so I still have the task bar on one side of the screen instead of the top or bottom

ReCursing,

Authoritarian, yes, fascist, no. We need the term fascist at the moment to call out actual fascists, diluting it by using it label people who aren't fascists but are also problematic plays directly into the misinformation the fascists thrive on

Top quality luddite opinions right here. Plenty of fear and oprobium being directed against the technology, while taking the kleprocratic capitalism and kakistocracy as a given that can't be challenged.

ReCursing,

It doesn't optimise storage, it does exactly the opposite. The point is to try to reduce dependencies by having everything in one atomic unit. This means if two programmes would use the same library you waste space by having it installed twice, but if two programmes use different versions of the same library you don't have dependency problems because they each have their own copy to work from. I can see the pros and cons but personally I don't have a use for it so I avoids it

ReCursing,
@ReCursing@kbin.social avatar

It's not what they use, it;s what there IQ is

Who was it that fascism is the fusion of corporations and government?

Mussolini I believe... although not I look for it I find quotes from him, but not anything approaching that line so I'm probably wrong.

Glad to have helped here!
