Pulptastic,

Avocado oil is better for you than sunflower oil. It has a high smoke point too so is my oil of choice for heat. Olive oil for cold uses only.

Pulptastic,

I’ve smoked it too many times in a hot pan, not worth the risk. It’s probably OK in baked dishes that don’t get as hot as pan fried dishes.

Pulptastic,

Negative reviews for the calculator that does OOO wrong.

Pulptastic,

I disagree. Without explicit direction on OOO we have to follow the operators in order.

The parentheses go first. 1+2=3

Then we have 6 ÷2 ×3

Without parentheses around (2×3) we can’t do that first. So OOO would be left to right. 9.

In other words, as an engineer with half a PhD, I don’t buy strong juxtaposition. That sounds more like laziness than math.

Pulptastic,

The oxford comma approach, I agree.

Pulptastic,

I did read the article. I am commenting that I have never encountered strong juxtaposition and sharing why I think it is a poor choice.

Pulptastic,

Is it though? I’ve only ever seen it treated as standard multiplication.

Pulptastic,

The one paragraph on “what makes spices warm” seems to be the only relevant part.

Pulptastic,

I may need to watch that again because I do not remember this aspect of it at all.

Pulptastic,

A family dressed up as Doc and all three Marty’s for Halloween and I loved it.

Pulptastic,

I loved seeing JGL with BW’s nose

Pulptastic,

We should also do this for commercial trucks. They cause the vast majority of road damage because of their weight and should pay for the vast majority of road maintenance costs. Charge the true price for freight and then see how profitable it is to ship things to houses.

We the people are subsidizing the for profit trucking industry and that is wrong.

Pulptastic,

I preorder Pokemon games so end up paying full price. Playing along with the hype farm online helps the experience.

Otherwise yeah. Why pay 60+ for a recent game when I can spend hours enjoying a $5 title from ten years ago?

Pulptastic,

Which dictator is worse, the invader or the defender?

Pulptastic,

Death is but a door, time is but a window, I’ll be back

Pulptastic,

Wasteful and unsustainable.

Pulptastic,

My rock oil is named after some John.

Pulptastic,

Pineapple. When I lived in Brazil I’d buy a fresh pineapple every week and it was heavenly. Easier to cut than a mango. The taste is debatable, I’d lean towards the tart tongue-dissolving pineapple, but hard to argue with the texture of a mango.

Pulptastic,

I miss Jones Juice Dave - green tea with hemp, ginseng, and royal jelly. I can still taste it, feel the jar with the metal cap.

Pulptastic,

The Drive by Peter Attia. It’s a podcast but I’d say it counts.

Poilievre opens up 15 point lead over Trudeau on preferred Prime Minister tracking (Nanos) (nanos.co)

Never invade Russia in the winter. Never fight a land war in Asia. Never go for a third term as Prime Minister in Canada. It makes the electorate hate you. I don’t complain much about his policies, but Trudeau is screwing his own party over and now we might end up with the Trumpiest of Canadian politicians as PM.

Pulptastic,

Is there something in the water?

Pulptastic,

I had a predecessor of that (Samsung dual flip but no e ink buttons) that I lost while drunk. So I got the new iPhone 3g to replace it.https://clublexus.com/…/114261d1194963393-sams…

I had this one shortly before that: forums.macrumors.com/proxy.php?image=http:%2F%2Fn…

Pulptastic,

Counterpoint, preheating just gives you a consistent starting point to follow their recipe. So you could follow their recipe once to see the intended result, then optimize it for your equipment (find the correct time and temp to get the intended result without preheating).

This all assumes you’re cooking a frozen thing. If you’re baking, follow the damned instructions. Baking is a science.

Pulptastic,

I feel like I need someone to teach me in person. I’ve watched videos, read articles, I understand the science but can’t get the feel.

Pulptastic,

I am not a watch guy but I love the data I get from my Garmin so I wear it pretty much 24/7

Pulptastic,

Slow cooker needs liquid. The pork will produce some but you need to start with some. Did you start with a recipe from the net? That is the safest way to try something new.

Pulptastic,

Depends. I drive a hybrid and live on top of a hill so my routine is set up to try and keep the engine off until I hit flat land and go above 30 mph. Typically that means plug in and set up my phone, buckle in, turn car in, and slowly cruise out of there with no delay. I don’t really want the engine warming up until it actually needs to run.

Pulptastic,

That’s clever. Only trace the rays that the camera can see and probably cheaper to send some rays from the camera to the sun than vice versa.

Pulptastic,

How is it decided if they are left side up or right side up? There’s one of each in this meme.

Pulptastic,

Hey this is really fun you should buy it now.

Pulptastic,

Fiberboard on the left, wood on the right.

Pulptastic,

You’d be surprised what I fit in my Yaris hatchback

Pulptastic,

There’s this really cool shorthand where you drop the year because it seldom changes. It’s called MM-DD

What item have you been using on a daily basis for the longest amount of time?

Sometimes I will use something and realize I’ve owned it forever. It’s a nice change in our throwaway reality. I think my personal record is a bicycle multi-tool I got for one of my first bikes, ~25 years ago. Still have it, still use it. When it comes to electronic devices I have a Panasonic mini Hi-Fi from ~2005. Never...

Pulptastic,

I got my Frieling stainless press in 2013 and it still rocks. I’ve replaced the screen twice now. However I don’t use it daily since I moved in 2020, I use it on weekends mostly now.

Pulptastic,

12 in one day and 45 days without. I think I broke those two records on the same day.

Pulptastic,

Wait what? It doesn’t dry out or go bad?

Pulptastic,

This is a good one. I went with the AS-D2 for a year, then got the Phoenix copper DOC for something more aggressive and more beautiful. Been using that ever since. The Feather was great to learn on though and now my kid learned on it and uses it. I’ll probably have to get another for the younger one when he’s ready.

Pulptastic,

For squirrel I had good luck slow cooking a few at a time, picking all the meat, and using it in casserole. Kinda like dark meat chicken. They have lots.of tiny bones so it is a bit of work.

Pulptastic, (edited )

Last I checked no, the game engine was 32 bit but the Mac won’t run 32 bit apps anymore. Or something like that. My hope with this refresh was 64 bit support.

Pulptastic,

So actual Nazis are calling Palestinian supporters antisemites? That is starting to sound like the US.
