Have you checked the piracy mega thread? I think they have a few online audiobook sites listed there but correct me if I’m wrong.

Edit: if you have a library card, you could use Libby for listening to audiobooks for free.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

They asked for audiobook sites online. They’d have to download for that so that wouldn’t work unfortunately. I saved your comment though because it’s still useful.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Like your library doesn’t show up or?

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

This link may be useful for you. If the stuff listed in the link doesn’t work, then your library may not have Libby unfortunately. In that case, pirate then.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

I mean, I’m from Canada, so North American library card?

Does the threadiverse (Lemmy + Kbin) seem ruder the last few weeks?

I dunno. I just feel less like I’m experiencing a fun new tool for communication the last few weeks. The communities here on Beehaw are still great and fantastic and aren’t what I’m bothered by. It’s just when I venture out in the world (which I often do) that I notice conversations are much more argumentative than I...

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Has anyone noticed that downvotes have become more common too? Back when I first joined, I hardly saw any downvotes and now you see them in almost every single comment.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Well well well, let’s find out

Use a dns blocker (like nextdns) for systemwide ad blocking meaning it blocks mobile ads too. I haven’t had an ad in ages.

Edit: Or use something like adaway if you’re on android.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

He didn’t say that. It was a different person. Read the usernames.

ProvokedGamer,

+1 for Lemmy.ca. I was in Lemmy.ml first, but it was incredibly laggy and unresponsive so I moved here two months ago during the Reddit exodus and have stayed since. Lemmy.ca is always super responsive for me. Living near the server where Lemmy.ca is based probably helps as well.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Is that what you see in .ca or .world?

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Dunno if it’s an instance issue then because it’s completely fine for me.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Does everything else work normally (like YouTube, etc.)? If they’re not working correctly, try unplugging your wifi router and repluging after a minute. Otherwise, I don’t know.

To answer your second question: To link a comment, either copy the link icon or the fediverse icon.

No problem! :)

Having a hard time settling on a VPN

I torrent (on the same PC that I run a Plex server from), but also auto connect on my devices whenever I’m on public wifi, so speed and avoiding blocks/captchas is also important. From what I understand having port forwarding will make a big difference in my torrent transfer speeds and ability to connect to peers....

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

If i2p is completely anonymous, does that mean we can torrent risk free using it?

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s crazy! Thanks for telling me and other pirates about i2p. :)

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

I checked out some launchers, and they’re decent, but not as great as cylinder unfortunately. Cylinder’s animations were just on a different level.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

That wasn’t what I was looking for, but thanks for telling me about that app! I think I’ll be using it because it looks like a good app.

What would a society without any human flaws truly be like?

If mankind started out without any negative traits that like greed, ego, anger etc., how would it shape our civilization up to this date? Would we have created the perfect utopia or made ourselves extinct long ago? Are our flaws holding us down or are they the reason our society made it to this point?

ProvokedGamer, (edited )
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

What do you mean by binary in “Negative traits are not binary?” I only know the definition of binary as 1’s and 0’s.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Ohhh

Why don’t Lemmings capitalize the beginning of each letter in their title for their posts?

I would assume people would capitalize their titles in posts since that’s the standard pretty much anywhere else like on YouTube or news sites, and that’s what you learn to do in school. Why is it only different on forum platforms like Lemmy or Reddit?

ProvokedGamer, (edited )
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Oh, so they’re basically just used as summary lines instead of titles?

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar
ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

It doesn’t really matter. I was curious more than anything.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

It gets all smushed up in between your cheeks too if you stand and wipe

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Dang that’s clever! Gave me a smile. :)

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Loads of people will go through withdrawal symptoms.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

I thought so too. I always capitalized my post titles on the old site until someone said I’m a dumbass for doing that and that it’s annoying. 🤷‍♂️

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah that’s true. If I wanted to drown in only tasting the spice, I’d eat a few peppers or something. Spice is good, but so is flavour.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Man that sucks. I hate when people assume that white people can’t handle spice. I’m brown, but I know some white friends that love spice.

ProvokedGamer,

Why are you being downvoted? Why are you being made fun of? Ridiculing others isn’t particularly nice. If the person you’re arguing with is a troll, move on. If they aren’t a troll, then have a civil and respectful discussion with them. If you can’t come to a middle ground where you understand their point and they understand your point, move on.

Ridiculing others is just mean. Who knows what they’re going through? It’s easy to forget people behind these texts are people too.

I hate arguments in general because time and time again, people go into an argument trying to prove their point, the other person feels their point is being attacked since they’re being told a different point so then it turns into both sides attacking the other person’s point. Like, you think they’re gonna be inclined to understand your point if you say something like, “That is a stupid point you’re making because…” All that’s gonna do is make the other person feel attacked, so they attack your points (or you), which makes an argument just a war zone where both sides aren’t trying to under each other and instead try to find anything that helps their point, like warping their words a little, or pressuring them so that they say something stupid which they can use as ammunition. At that point, no one is trying to understand each other. They’re all too busy trying to prove their point while hurting the other person’s point. Try to understand the other person. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with them. Just understand.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

Why should I switch? Just curious.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

What’s wrong with a green bubble? Just curious.

Could you resist a true virtual reality and should you?

Lets assume we develop the capacity to create virtual worlds that are near indistinguishable from the real world. We hook you up into a machine and you now find yourself in what effectively is a paraller reality where you get to be the king of your own universe (if you so desire). Nothing is off limits - everything you’ve ever...

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s fine, but moderation is key. If you spend all your time (or even your life!) there, then that’s unhealthy. You’re using it as an escape and avoiding the real world.

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

What distro are you using and why?

Is it just me or is it lemmy shit?

Since Day One (spez’ fuckup) I have been trying to use and like lemmy but it just doesn’t work right at all. Like as in never did. Communities disappear randomly, posts don’t load, submissions have no comments, you name it. At this point I am considering going back to reddit just like everyone else I know that used to care...

ProvokedGamer,
@ProvokedGamer@lemmy.ca avatar

True, but no one’s milking you for money here
