This isn’t exactly a formal writing space. I post almost exclusively from my phone. I’m a terrible type on my phone, freely admitted, but I do what I can to correct things. Sometimes it just gets missed, though. I make an effort to edit, but at the end of the day, this is just going to a bunch of dummies on the Internet, not someone who matters to my life. I’ll put in exactly what I feel is the appropriate effort.
I still “use reddit” in this way, too, mostly that the top and beat results for obscure information tend to be reddit, but I don’t consider this “using” reddit, personally
I admit I didn’t look deep into that particular article. There are a lot of sources easy to find that show that multiple GSWs are surprisingly not that much more lethal, but they’re harder to repair. This one for example which lists 13% for single, and 18% for multiple.
I prefer picking a sentence or so that has meaning to me, using the first letters, and then adjusting for numbers/symbols. So if I wanted to make that a pw, it’d be 1ppa505thm2m,utfl,atafn/5. -looks completely unintelligible, but as long as you can remember the sentence and have some ideas of how you would have encoded it, easy enough to remember/recreate.
It’s as easy to remember a bunch of those as it is remembering 4 random words with no association, I think. And besides, just use that for the big, important, pws like your pw manager.
Just use these methods for the pws you either need to know (like your password manager) or don’t want stored for whatever reason, like your bank. Otherwise, yeah, just let your password manager generate a password for whatever site.
Disabilities are one of those things we, rightfully, take making accomodations for seriously. I’ll admit I’m not familiar with Canadian law, but at least in the states, this would ABSOLUTELY be an ADA violation, for good reason, failure to make reasonable, or any, accomodation.
I don’t think that sounds terrible at all. We can all agree, I think, that we’d rather this whole situation not happen at all, but of the two cases, one with one dead by their own hands, and another case with who knows how many dead at the same person’s hands, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying you’re happy it was the former and not the latter.
Terrible would be saying he deserved it. Or putting someone in that position. Or a variety of other things, but it’s not being relieved at a lower death toll.
I mean, yeah, they boiled down all of the SE to Florida and incest lol. I don’t think the map is supposed to be exactly accurate. And they’re not THAT far from Alabama all considered.
My guess is that the N word has pretty much no historical use outside of referring to darker skinned people in as derogatory of a way as possible. The F word for gays is about the only other one, unless you’ve got a British pal who smokes, but just about every other slur is either so obscure that it’s only heard rarely, or has other legitimate uses, so you have to apply context to figure out what the situation is. N word was almost always bad, until they decided to blunt the blade, so to speak, by adopting it as a part of their own vernacular.
You’re missing the point when people say it won’t solve future issues. Yes, lock the perpetrator up (ignoring the issues with the penal system in the first place), that’s a no brainier. But locking up that person and placing all the blame at their feet doesn’t do anything for the other people in very similar situations.
This same sentiment is echoed in the tech community around AI artwork and it’s, frankly, silly. You cannot blame a tool for being misused. You can say that only certain people should have ready access to a tool, and there are strict rules for the use of a tool, but at the end of the day, the tool bloody exists, saying “hey, can we just not use the tool, guys?” doesn’t work. Fix the people who have the most likelihood of misusing the tools, prevent access to the tool from unqualified people, and otherwise just accept that misuse is the price of advancement, as unfortunate as that is.
The person you were talking to was making a broader societal point. Placing the blame for this whole situation, which is the fruit of many of the failings of society, just enacted through a single man, and saying we’re good 'cause that boogeyman is dead or in prison does NOTHING to address the root causes, the actual problems. That’s the point you’re missing.
You’re painting a false dichotomy, though. Both of these things can be true at the same time, and in fact are. It does everyone more good to accept that yes, Cruz did a bad thing and should be held accountable, and to accept that, yes, society at large has a hand to play in this.
What, exactly, prevents both from being true? Cruz is to blame for his actions. Society is to blame for the conditions that led to the actions. They’re both true. We can punish, imprison, whatever, the person who did the crime, while still also acknowledging that there may be other things that led to the thing from happening.
My point is that it’s not a party divide, both sides have interest in keeping status quo. It’s not just “because you voted Republican” it’s the whole thing, top to bottom. And I’m not saying both sides are completely the same, just that it’s more than a bit reductive to say it’s because of a party line.
I have never once oiled my pasta water. I have also never once had my pasta stick. Just add enough water, boil, salt, pasta. Cook til it’s done, I literally never stir the pasta. Test for texture every so often. Drain, save some water for marrying with the sauce better.
There’s either the “it’ll never work” take or the “it’ll destroy the industry!” take, and both are kinda childish. New technologies are tools, nothing more, nothing less. Learn to use them and they’ll make your life easier. Integrate them if they’re threatening your livelihood. Learn and adapt, it’s how progress has always worked.
It doesn’t really matter what’s happening, with regards to how you’re feeling. You can be going through shit and having a good time, or king of the world and just miserable.
Hey folks. Got a pixel 7 pro, and it’s been alright, except suddenly, if I press the fingerprint sensor on the lock screen for just a split second, it makes the WHOLE SCREEN go full-brightness, with a green tinge. I know it’s always lit up the scanner area, which is all it lights up if I hold the sensor, but if I release it...
