They’re intelligent and very instinctive birds from birth- that doesn’t mean that they’re vicious though. My chickens that I’m raising are all sweethearts. It’s all a matter of their environment. If you overcrowd them in an indoor factory farm of course they’re going to turn on each other, they’re extremely stressed out. Chickens that are raised outdoors with lots of space and different kinds of food are a lot less likely to act up and turn on each other. You can even taste a noticeable difference in eggs from happy chickens.
Roosters on the other hand are usually fucking assholes.
I own chickens and have had a bullying problem in the past. In the winter they have a lot less space and they get bored and stressed easily. The hen that took the “rooster”/protector role started pecking the smallest and sweetest chicken and drew blood. I had to keep the small chicken isolated from the flock for a few weeks while its wounds healed and put special goggles on the bully chicken for a month- they prevent it from seeing in front of itself so it forgets what’s there after a few seconds. Yeah they can be vicious, but it’s definitely preventable if they’re raised right instead of at a factory farm.
I have seen many people in this community either talking about switching to Brave, or people who are actively using Brave. I would like to remind people that Brave browser (and by extension their search engine) is not privacy-centric whatsoever....
Why should I trust Mozilla over Brave? Just because Mozilla is a nonprofit subsidiary doesn’t mean that they don’t have an incentive to make money for their profit handling corporate division, the Mozilla Corporation. I tried playing around with Firefox and not having the option to directly add a less-used search engine than the ones given without extensions was pretty sketchy to me. All of the complaints people have about Brave like ads and the weird crypto thing are very configurable in the settings, and I have a lot less compatibility issues compared to Firefox. Also, the source linked claiming all of this is a sketchy Neocities site that anyone could have made that doesn’t even prove why Brave isn’t private. I get that people are loyal to their favorite browsers but this is silly. If you really want to be private, use the Tor network, but all browsers and extensions need to track you in some degree to function.
If I use a USB device, does that mean I’m using an IBM/Microsoft product? No, it’s an open source standard. Same applies to Brave, Chromium is a standard open source starting point to build browsers on- the only tie to Google is the developer of the original backbone for the program.
How am I supposed to soldering this? I have both soldering iron and a spool of solder. But most videos show soldering wires instead of what I need as you can see in the picture (disconeted cable on a laptop charger). I would higly appreciate any info and tutorial videos on this....
If I were you, I would take this to a professional- this is a quick fix if you have the right equipment and know how to do it safely. If that is plastic surrounding the cup, definitely refrain from soldering it yourself. If you want to go ahead and do it yourself, my best advice would be to research the charger- you will be less likely to damage it when you solder. See if you can find schematics, materials used, temperature ratings etc. Don’t solder electronics with an iron without temperature control. As others said here, use flux!!! It’s crucial for making a safe connection- figure out if you’re using leaded or lead free solder and buy a syringe of the appropriate flux for it. Apply the flux to the joint and melt it with your iron. Melt some solder into the cup, and then heat the solder while lowering the wire in. The less time you have the iron in contact, the better your chances are, but make sure not to apply too little heat. Use 90% rubbing alcohol and a brush to clean the joint after.

After reading about Snowden leaks and what world governments are capable of technologically, I’ve come to the same conclusion that privacy is now an illusion. Sure, one browser might send less data to corporations, but the government can see whatever they want on anyone’s computer with an internet connection. The answer is to take a step back technologically. Interact with people in person. Read books at the library. Shop locally instead of online or at big box stores. Buy thrifted DVDs. The further you remove yourself, the more private you will be.

Chicken prices at U.S. grocery stores have hit record highs and should stay elevated as Tyson Foods and other companies dial back poultry production to boost margins while inflation-weary shoppers buy chicken instead of beef and pork....
Chicken holocaust enablers. I don’t want to come across as a crazy vegan (I’m not a vegan) but chickens are as intelligent as any other pet, if not more. My chickens recognize words and individual people, and are always figuring out sneaky ways to escape their enclosure. If we all raised our own chickens, there would be a lot less collective suffering on this planet. You only need to refill their feeder once a week, and you can compost their droppings to make pure fertilizer.
Edit: B…but my tendies!!! All I’m asking is for people to consider eating chicken less often and to consider the suffering they go through as a species. They evolved to live in the jungle, not a cage barely as big as them.
Snail mail? Make sure to use a security envelope to prevent someone from reading your mail by spraying computer duster (when sprayed upside down it reveals the inside of a normal envelope, then evaporates). You can also put a few grains of kool-aid powder in the envelope seal to indicate if the envelope was forced open with steam.
Why??? We’re experiencing a shortage of workers for the jobs nobody wants to do and there is an entire wave of people ready to get their foot in the door in our country. They’re not criminals either, all the people I know who are immigrants from Spanish speaking countries are kind, practical, outgoing, intelligent and hard workers- they definitely know how to party too. I wish more people would learn Spanish so we could fix this disconnect between the US and its neighbors.

When will the greed stop? At what point will these corporations realize that the average American is completely stretched thin financially and will have to cease unnecessary expenses? They’re all just shooting themselves in the foot.
I say we should collectively strike from streaming platforms to send a message. If you want to watch shows, collect DVDs from the library or thrift store and rip them to a USB drive. If you have a newer TV with a built in media player, it can read the video formats on the USB drive for quick access to your favorite shows.

I suggest you avoid short-form video apps entirely. There is a correlation between reduced interest in learning/ADHD and Short form video formats 123. When you use sites like Lemmy and actively read, you are at least becoming a better reader and critical thinker. Short form video shows you fast-paced content tailored to you that’s designed to keep you addicted and entranced. From what I’ve seen firsthand, once people start using these platforms they have a hard time stopping.
How are people surviving at all right now? Between this and the price of EVERYTHING going up, companies are still raising prices and adding premium features while wage raises are at a standstill. The people who are lucky enough to be in unions are striking and the people who aren’t in unions are getting desperate.
I thought there would be a lot more discussion on reddit about the new privacy changes and migrating to Lemmy. Either people genuinely don’t care or Reddit is actively suppressing discussion about this to keep their user base.
