Even an older model SUV like a Honda CRV will take up a lot less space than its modern counterpart. Station wagons can be sexy too if that’s your style.
The three words "I Can't Breathe" refer to what some police brutality victims, like George Floyd, Eric Garner and Manuel Ellis, said before their untimely deaths at the hands of law enforcement.
What if you replaced “police” in your comment with another group of people like doctors? What if you had to be a police officer to make a living? Don’t fall into the trap of generalizing a whole group of people, it’s no different than being racist. Please go after specific corrupt police departments but I can assure you that a lot of police officers join for good reasons.
What if you replaced the world police with doctors? It’s not fair to generalize an entire group of people, despite their occupation or any other creed. That being said, fuck any officer, supervisor or department who supports oppressing a marginalized group to benefit rich people. It happens alarmingly regularly in our country and we need to target the groups that spread it. Its not usually the case though-people join public safety jobs because they want to help people, but feel kept down by rules about reporting every decriminalized offense they see happen and getting in trouble when they don’t. I mean it about the hours too- when we were understaffed, I would work long shifts and my mental health deteriorated as a result to the point where I quit because I couldn’t respond to emergencies because of sleep deprivation. As for the court stuff, I agree that courts need to scrutinize police more. We need police reform but we can’t let it divide us- I implore you to listen to police and former police alongside marginalized groups for the facts.

We defederated with them for a reason. Us regular left leaning folk believe that all humans are equal and that the government has a responsibility to take care of all of its citizens. The tankie communists on Lemmygrad are acting violent to get attention.
Sarah Katz, 21, had a heart condition and was not aware of the drink’s caffeine content, which exceeded that of cans of Red Bull and Monster energy drinks combined, according to a legal filing
One Celsius has 200 mg of caffeine while one espresso drink from home has about 80 mg. Sometimes I still feel tired after drinking my coffee but I definitely feel less jittery and stressed.
If restaurants just served sparkling water or mineral water I would be way more inclined to order drinks. But nooo, we have to have a society that normalizes liquid candy and alcohol 🥴
We’re in a very strange moment for the internet. We all know it’s broken. That’s not news. But there’s something in the air—a vibe shift, a sense that things are about to change.
So my mother recently bought an ET-2800, By HP we had an HP printer before and we got a new one because the old one would not work with my sister’s Windows 11 Laptop. Big printer companies need to be regulated better by the FTC. The whole cartridge issue is a waste of resources and costs a lot more than it costs to produce.
CONTENT WARNING: Realistic depictions of PTSD, suicide and combat injuries simulated with action figures. This is a PSA for raising awareness about veteran PTSD made by the British charity Veterans For Peace.
Honestly I agree with you here. It’s a great and extremely shocking piece of art that forces you into the dark world of a combat veteran while making fun of how we glamorize war. However, the comedic tone with a dark subject matter doesn’t make it a good PSA. The redeeming quality is that it at least went viral and brought a lot more attention to the charity and veterans issues so it’s definitely a mixed bag. Side note, thank you for chiming in! It’s interesting to hear from someone who worked in the field professionally.
If anyone wants a real and fully functional version of this, check out the pwnagotchi. You can build it yourself or you can buy a prebuilt one. Good for on-the-go network analysis.
If we don’t have a functional government by the end of the week we need to take to the streets. Why should we pay taxes when they won’t do anything for us?
Non-profit still means they can make a profit, they have the freedom to move the bar and give their executives extra pay while still technically not making extra money
It’s kind of crazy how much Reddit doesn’t want people to migrate here. 5 months ago, they banned the mod of a subreddit for Lemmy migration and reinstated the community after backlash. When you search Lemmy in Reddit search, you see a few top pinned posts about how to migrate but everything else is low effort trash talk from people who have never used Lemmy. The entire Lemmy subreddit is dedicated to complaining about it- I’m sure Reddit is doing this intentionally. Keep spreading the word- Lemmy’s growth starts with you! We have a brand new platform owned by all and the power to shape it into something great for everyone.
Give it time! This is a little baby social network. If there is a niche community you want to see, you have all the power to start your own community- if there’s one on Lemmy.world that you don’t like then start your own version on a different instance!
All that being said, this information about open source and corporations are the things that corporate social media hid from you with their algorithms because they lose money- expand your horizons and you might learn a thing or two for the better! Don’t be discouraged to share your own opinions no matter how much backlash you get- Lemmy is small enough that you have the ability to have your opinion heard by others.
Sometimes it feels like the Barista Manifesto on here but that will even out with time. This is brand new and lots of people are flailing around trying to shape the platform to their views. Just remember that this is for everyone- even if you get downvotes, don’t be afraid to voice your opinion. Change starts with you! Remember that compared to corporate social media, you have the power to block anything that you don’t want to see, even keywords. Kindness exists here, you just need to tailor the Lemmy experience to you.
We’re happy to have you here and I hope that you find your niche!
What’s the deal with lemmy.ml? I’ve noticed a more aggressive/4channy tone to it compared to lemmy.world but I can’t find any more information about it
Utah became the latest state Tuesday to file a lawsuit against TikTok, alleging the company is “baiting” children into addictive and unhealthy social media habits....
I’ve seen it with my own eyes. My SO’s younger sisters are 13 and spend all day glued to tiktok, Youtube shorts etc. I’ve seen the weird challenges encouraging dangerous behavior that the media hypes up show up in their feed (of mostly drama videos doxing strangers on the internet), as well as random videos of dead cats, gore, fentanyl references, and they’ve complained about videos of topless underage girls in 3rd world countries. Even though I’m politically across the aisle from these people, I support this lawsuit.

Brave debate aside, at least the Brave iOS app blocks ads on big sites like Youtube while still allowing multiple tabs to be open. It even plays audio in the background for YT without premium. It’s better than nothing and it’s more customizable than you’d think. That being said, is any browser truly private?
