JohnWorks,

I think in the original pic they were all smiling. Someone edited it for no smiles lmao.

JohnWorks,

Based on the demo video I’m assuming this is more for archival storage rather than on demand. So more like a tape replacement rather than hard drive?

JohnWorks,

You’re not missing out on much. I stopped using the ecg feature on the Samsung watches when it gave me an AFib warning and I went to a doctor about it. They hooked me up to an EKG and said I was fine and looked at the chart my watch generated and said the chart there also looked fine. I put on both my apple watch and galaxy watch and was measuring both at the same time and the apple watch gave out either high heart rate (I just got back from a walk) or inconclusive meanwhile the galaxy watch fired off another false AFib warning.

JohnWorks,

Man that would be nice. Could finally have it be all in one again like Google Hangouts before it was killed.

JohnWorks,

Same I legit think it could’ve been Google’s actual competition to iMessage but they fumbled the bag so badly it’s crazy.

JohnWorks,

I’m kinda surprised another company hasn’t made something to legit compete with iMessage yet. Like even Samsung only uses RCS and mostly through Google messages. I kinda wish something like beeper would take off but at the same time I wouldn’t trust the remote server running iMessage issue.

JohnWorks,

I know I’ve been using signal and Snapchat but it would be nice to have something supported by a larger company that wouldn’t harvest your data (as much) as Facebook. I don’t think I’ll be switching off of signal anytime soon anyways since I had to drag my friends through hangouts dying and then allo dying. I like telegram’s features but I don’t think I’d ever want to use it due to some of the privacy issues I’ve seen about it.

JohnWorks,

I guess by competitor I mean in the sense that’s like a free service that doesn’t harvest data and is e2e. Only thing I can think of with mild adoption rates is signal although I think that it’s also my bias since I use it. Hardest part is being able to run these services with little to no income from the service and apple is able to get away with it since they make money off of other stuff.

JohnWorks,

I probably could’ve been clearer I guess what I meant was a hardware company making a competitor

JohnWorks,

I’ve been using Every Man Jack products for body wash and shampoo. I can’t really find many soaps that lather as well as them so it’s what I’ve been sticking with.

Do you think there's better ways to fediverse?

Personally I think that if there was like a central link/front end to access everything and then have each user be able to have a recommended list of instances/hosts to access would be a more user friendly solution and a better solution for search engines. I know the fediverse is about decentralization but having a central front...

JohnWorks,

Maybe the front end could also be hosted by everyone then it’s just the link that stays the same then?

JohnWorks,

Yeah this is a good way of looking at it. The main reason I made this post was after seeing some more fediverse drama I kinda figured it sucks for large instances to have a lot of power with defeding from smaller ones to shut them down super easily. From what I understand it’d be like if Gmail prevented people from sending email to people on Hotmail or something.

JohnWorks,

That’s kinda why I figured if the people hosting could choose what instances/subs to host then thats the control they’d have but they wouldn’t be able to remove or edit specific posts since that would be the job of the users/mods.

JohnWorks,

That would be interesting! Could have everyone who’s using the fediverse be both a host and a user. Honestly sounds like a good idea the more I think about it although the only downside would be more data and battery use on mobile users.

JohnWorks,

Could be open source with a democratic voting system for a front end host in the community then.

JohnWorks,

Would another option be like having every post have some kind of anchor of invisible text or something with “lemmy” so when I search for “best washing machine lemmy” it’ll show all posts across instances or something. Idk if that’s how SEO works entirely though.

JohnWorks, (edited )

Did these chips have a translation in hardware like Rosetta? Or emulation that’s almost just as good? Edit: Found a couple things according to Qualcomm’s charts it looks interesting anandtech.com/…/qualcomm-snapdragon-x-elite-perfo…But from what was observed along with other scores it looks a lot closer androidauthority.com/snapdragon-x-elite-benchmark…

JohnWorks,

Hopefully other manufacturers will have something like this implemented as well

JohnWorks,

Had to retire my simple touch since the back rubber started to melt and get sticky. Replaced it with a current gen glow light I think is what they’re called now.

JohnWorks,

I know Google has some AI stuff available for their phones in the photos app (and some that offloads it to the cloud). Is there anything available or preloaded on other phones that use the snapdragon chips and actually take advantage of these AI cores?

JohnWorks, (edited )

Better yet just mod it into starfield as a planet lmao. New mission something about investigating a world where the colonies nuked each other. Arrive at the world and get shot in the head by Benny. Cue F:NV in starfield.

JohnWorks,

Yeah you’re right. Changed it although I would wait in line to play a game if it was good lol.

JohnWorks,

Been playing Mario wonder and destiny although I need to start up starfield again soon.

JohnWorks,

Looks like privacy has a free plan available at least. Up to 12 cards it looks like.

JohnWorks,

Breaking toilet, skibiding bad

JohnWorks,

I was super interested until I saw the dead pixels on mkbhd’s video. That’s super concerning especially on the folding line.

JohnWorks,

There’s Futurama comics?

JohnWorks,

Honestly I like the look of the consoles however the pricing is incredibly stupid imo. 450 for diskless is pointless when the disked model is 500. 50$ doesn’t seem like much of an incentive to save by going diskless. The better option would’ve been to charge 400 for diskless and then 100 for the drive rather than 80.

JohnWorks,

Gonna have to be Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and MegaMan Battle Network 6 for me on the GBA.

Are you going to need an unlimited data plan to use The 8 Pro's Video Boost feature?

From my understanding, the P8P’s video boost can’t be done in the phone itself, but it’s actually uploading the video to Google’s servers, processing it there, then downloading the finished product back again. In fact, it probably uploads two videos, one at high ISO and one at low ISO to get the full HDR range....

JohnWorks,

I’ve been confused about this feature. It doesn’t seem to have a whole lotta info on how it works and if it is being uploaded to a server why can’t the pixel 8 have it? On the other hand if it’s processed on the device the 8 and 8 pro have the same chip which leads me to the same question.

JohnWorks,

Pretty much just have Spotify+Hulu, YouTube premium (should cancel Spotify maybe but I like seeing what songs get removed from my playlists rather than them just disappearing), Amazon prime, and Disney+. Thinking about cancelling Disney+ soon but I want to see Loki s2 still.

JohnWorks,

The flavor tasted like a sprite but with a fruity aftertaste to me. Honestly didn’t know any ai involvement with the drink when I initially got it I just like trying the coke creations flavors. Starlight was still my favorite.

JohnWorks,

I’ve been using a physical sim for a while and while I normally would be fine with esim I’ve heard of various issues with them including having tethering data be used as normal data. There’s also the ease of switching between phones with a physical sim so for now I’ll continue using it.

JohnWorks,

No I’ve read about issues where after switching to esim people have had all phone data get reported as if it was tethered. For example if you have 2 gigs of tethering data included with your unlimited plan then you effectively have only 2 gigs of data if this issue affected you.

[RESOLVED] Strange Proton Crash with Starfield after 135 hours of playing (AMD/Mesa)

EDIT: This has been fixed, it all mostly chalked up to possibly a driver / kernel bug. Why things managed to work so well for so long, who can say? Anyway all you need to do is upgrade your Linux kernel to 6.5.x, and your Mesa driver to the latest Mesa git....

JohnWorks,

Have you tried a different proton version? I know on my steam deck it used to be where some games wouldn’t run well on certain proton versions so I had to manually set proton to run as experimental.

JohnWorks,

One of the biggest things I miss from reddit is the discord videos sub.

JohnWorks,

I can’t imagine they’d be able to use an off the shelf processor for the next one. The performance at lower wattages on the deck is so much better than current laptop processors or the Z1.

JohnWorks,

It kinda sucks there’s no car manufacturers that’ll make new cars without these privacy issues. I suppose the best thing that could be done would be to attempt to disconnect a car from being able to contact any network so no data can get out.

JohnWorks,

Originally I started to use it because I’d heard there was a new update to its rendering engine that made it feel faster/better than chrome. After testing it out I did think it felt better at the very least. Now I’m using it mostly for the same reasons and to reduce my dependence on Google/Chrome.

JohnWorks,

After switching from an iPad to an Android tablet recently this is exactly what I was looking for
