Then that is kind of fucked up. WotC is the part of the company keeping Hasbro afloat right now. Activist investors had wanted to spin off WotC because the rest of the company is performing that badly.
Both Seasons 2 and 3 were spoiled for me and everything the spoilers described made me not want to watch the show. This is in contrast to spoilers due SNW or Lower Decks that made the shows sound far more interesting.
But I feel like the damning view is setting the TNG crew on the bridge and having it feel really off. It wasn’t even like when Scotty drank on the holodeck version of the original Enterprise. The crew looked off on the old bridge in a way that felt strange. Yeah, everyone is back, but it really feels off.
Omnibus bills get made because it acts as the compromise document. Instead of promises to vote on separate bills, all the compromises are lumped into one bill to vote on.
It is also important for a Congressional system like the US, with two houses with their own democratic mandate and an executive who can veto. Most countries have a Parliamentary system, or at least a different kind of system without the stark division of powers that the USA has.
What will be interesting is who would help this time. Outside of the US, Canada, and Argentina, is there any nation in the Americas that has participated in armed conflict between nations in recent memory?
There was also a story of a German POW being served apple pie are being captured while not being served it by his own government for a while due to rationing.
From the article: “In some ways, the current situation has spurred an arms race. YouTube has inadvertently improved ad blockers, as the new knowledge and techniques gained from innovating within the YouTube platform are also applicable to other ad and tracking systems.”
The problem is that YouTube will always offer the best terms for initial creators. Hosting is free, the platform will sometimes help advertise you to your likely audience, and it may offer the first way to monetize the channel. A federated system isn’t going to provide nearly the same benefits.
None of the three items I mentioned involved scale. Two of them mentioned cost to host and one mentioned advertising the creators’ work.
The CEO of Nebula has explicitly stated he isn’t creating a YouTube competitor. Nebula has a paywall which is important to its business model. It could never afford self hosting for free.
Even if PeerTube solves the hosting cost problem, you still have two advantages that a YouTube like system has over a PeerTube like system.
It isn’t as easy on the American side. The US military owns most of the facilities that make munitions, even if it outsources operations. There was some slack in the supply chain to make more, but that slack is gone and you need an act of Congress to increase from there.
What is defeatist about it? It is about constantly participating in the system to make sure your views are still considered.
It means participating in primaries to make sure some of your candidates get picked even if others are going to lose. For instance, I’m going to vote in the primary because it will have a major impact on choosing a Senator of my state even if Biden is going to be the Presidential nominee.
It means choosing candidates in the general election that you can at least try to influence with protests and other actions after the election. I’d rather have a percentage of what I want politically done than nothing.
The alternative seems to be not to participate, which feels more defeatist.
The President isn’t a dictator; a lot of decisions are made by other politicians as I noted. Hell, we are seeing what happens when you have a divided government versus one led by one party.
Also, there is voting in primaries. Again, the presidential candidate may be chosen, but there are other candidates as well and some may need your support and align with your interests.
And I get that you might have an election with a candidate you may not love like Biden or you find out that a candidate is a piece of shit like Simena. However, I’d still rather show up and get a chance to affect the choosing of my leaders rather than not.
One of the missions in Ace Combat 4 is to attack a solar panel installation as solar power allows the Erusians to operate their industrial base without energy imports.
China has made significant investments in solar and nuclear technology specifically designed to reduce costs per unit of energy to make it competitive to fossil fuels.
Lemmygrad is filled with the American patriot version of communists. You will excuses for the Uighur genocide and acts of repression against ethnic minorities for the good of the nation as a whole. You also get into weird cases of trying to redefine words because the words don’t match their narrative. For instance, I was in one discussion trying to argue that China was a democracy because the government worked for the people, even if there was never any official method of communicating the public will.
Hexbear seems more geared towards being angry and bitter at liberals for not doing what they see as the right thing. There isn’t any discussion on political theory, talk of political organization outside of violent revolution is frowned on, and the focus seems geared on one small part of the political spectrum while ignoring other parts entirely.
If anything, solarpunk may be the healthier leftist sub because it is geared in part towards solutions instead of focusing on problems.
What do you mean by this? What kinds of methods do you find acceptable?
Some form of vote. And this isn’t an argument on which system is better or not, just a definition of democracy compared to other forms of government.
There is absolutely talk of political theory on hexbear.
It is very little and it doesn’t get upvoteed much. If you are going to see posts from all, it isn’t there.
We aren’t going to pretend liberals are worth engaging with politically.
But Hexbear talks about liberals a lot, far more than any other political group. It comes across as a communal hate time for one group. It feels strange to focus on one half of the political systems typically represented in democracies and not the other.
not some “just vooooote” liberal
I touched on this in my reply. There is little in terms of discussion for organization or action. It doesn’t come across as a group wanting to make change, but complain. And the hostility to voting feels like it comes from not wanting to do anything in the political sphere that will actually affect change.
