Agreed.

This will amount to nothing, just like all the rest.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

This is how you kill it. I hope the TST does just that.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, they’ll try.

Arkansas tried that but TST still got their Baphomet statue.

FlashMobOfOne,

There’s really good BBC bot operating Mastodon too. I’ve followed it since I joined in October last year. It’s even programmed to use CW’s and add image descriptions.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Deleted mine a month ago.

I don’t miss it one bit.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know that I’d call it ‘apparent’.

My interactions with people in my life are, by and large, very decent. Social media amplifies the bad actors and makes the problematic things seem more widespread than they are, but in fact, it’s just an algorithm grabbing the same content you’ve had your eyeballs on consistently and feeding you more of it. That creates the illusion that the problem you’re hearing about is worse than it may be.

I will say, though, that I’ve become more of a fan of massive retaliation when I do run into people who lack basic politeness. If I’m in the gym and someone’s playing music on speakerphone, I will work out near them and turn on the loudest metal track in my playlist at full volume. I keep a stick of gel deodorant in my car to use on the door handles of people who park rudely, and if someone is speaking to another person rudely in my presence I always say something. I try not to answer rudeness for rudeness to a person’s face, because just asking “Why would you speak to someone that way?” is usually more effective for defusing people than escalating aggression. (But you get my drift)

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve found it to be a pretty good tactic, myself. When people are angry they’re not really thinking things through, and a neutral third party interrupting that off-the-rails thought process can help them consider what they’re doing.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

That’s actually inaccurate.

You can be charged for theft of service for refusing to tip someone. It’s happened.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

And you would be, again, factually incorrect.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Also doing everything they can to funnel more of our money to another country’s war.

Awesome.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

The money is only being spent on replacing the outdated military hardware that’s being sent over to Ukraine, which would otherwise be sitting and rotting in storage and would need replacement or expensive repairs to get running again.

Would be totally fine with that if it were being deducted from the next budget, but it’s not, so it’s added to the hundreds of billions we’re already taking on in debt while also neglecting our own people.

It prevents continued Russian aggression on other countries

Couldn’t care less. Our people don’t have health care, education that they can afford, and the minimum wage is still 7 bucks. I’d much rather see that money spent saving our people from the aggression of our predatory economic environment, as is already the case in most first-world countries.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

That doesn’t make it any less problematic, nor does it make me any less right in pointing out the extent to which our people are neglected so war profiteers can fund their golden parachutes. (Sadly, with help from a lot of chickenhawks, like the folks on this thread.)

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

They come to America for very specialized health care, and only that.

And you know why?

They won’t be bankrupted for an injury or illness in their own countries, and not a god damn one of them is going to sign up for American health care once they look at the medical bills we get for routine shit.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

You need to remember the more important priorities, like whatever random politician said something really, really mean today.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Repeating bumper sticker slogans doesn’t change facts.

If Europeans wanted American-style health care, every European country would have it. They don’t. They’d rather not mortgage their homes for health care like we do.

There’s a reason why the rest of the world doesn’t do health care the way they do. They don’t want to be left for dead when they can’t pay a price-gouged medical bill.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

And we have a holiday dedicated to him…

It’s a running theme in our species: memorializing awful people for the sake of tradition.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Does anyone know of any good books on the subject?

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

It would be, if we elected people who cared more about doing good than they do about increasing their own fortunes.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

They’re all multi-millionaires, and care much, much more about increasing their wealth than they do about doing meaningful good. Remember when we found out both Republican and Democratic senators exploited their classified COVID briefings to make money on stocks?

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Both sides literally did that, yes.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I keep a few screws in my car to prop up under the tires of people who park like this.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Deactivated FB six weeks ago.

I’m not saying you should do the same, but I’m not not saying it.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Nope.

It’s a shame they didn’t.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Understable. Requires more legwork without it, but I don’t mind that for the mental health tradeoff.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not a superiority thing.

As much as I dislike FB, it unfortunately still has a lot of use for most people. I get that.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Not necessarily. You can deactivate FB and still keep your contacts to use in Messenger.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

It’s really not.

You’re still starving the beast. Deactivating just leaves the people who know me an outlet to get in touch if needed.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Sometimes that’s the best way to go. For me, deactivating’s been fine. I like Mastodon and Lemmy way more.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think I’ve ever upvoted something more enthusiastically in my life.

Cheers and thank you.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

After watching Mitch McConnell being led around like a nursing home patient who might shit himself at any given moment, and then watching Democrats prop up Dianne Feinstein’s lifeless corpse and pretend it’s the one casting the votes, I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people don’t really give much of a damn about the Senate.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

And probably won’t matter much.

This user surge will probably go crawling right back in a week or two.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

That’s true. I just don’t expect this one to be quite so consequential as the others.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

This is a phenomenon known as group polarization or attitude polarization.

Dang, that’s fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re an American, I’d go with diarrhea if you’re in a workplace with bad management. If you have a boss that actually cares about you, tell them you have a migraine.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

He gets us.

But he doesn’t get you anymore. Cheers.

FlashMobOfOne,

Leonardo Da Vinci

I’d get an art lesson.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

White Nationalists Nazis.

Just because they tried rebranding doesn’t mean we have to adopt their sanitized terminology.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

TBF I think having more diversity in military leadership especially could lead to diversity of thought

I love your optimism.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

The cruelty of it is the point.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

No, not the donut of shame! 🍩

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

No living wage, no money for education, no money for health care, working three jobs to survive, and the world temperature and scarcity of housing are accelerating…

…but sure, let’s celebrate. This totally matters.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not the end results needed, but it is a step on the path needed.

No, it isn’t.

It’s nothing. This will change nothing, as evidenced by the fact that even when Trump is performatively “arrested” there’s never handcuffs of a mugshot.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Of course they should.

I’m just years past pretending this is consequential, given that no one will go after any of the big fish in the pond. Can’t pretend we’re winning when we’re a year removed from reelecting a twice-impeached fascist.

You can't uninstall this software without being forced to participate in their survey (lemmy.world)

I initially only installed “Comodo Firewall” but for some reason they also installed a “Comodo Dragon Browser”, which I did not consent to. I always choose the “advanced” installation to uncheck bloatware, but in this case there was none and when you try to uninstall the browser, they force you to participate in...

This is the moment where you paste in some porn fanfic.

It was a stupid religious thing. He Gets Us is a campaign by Christian people, the annoying type that stand on street corners, not the kind that just do their thing and leave everyone else alone.
