He’s cancelled student debt for a precious few, unilaterally, several times.

I’m not sure why we’re pretending he needs Congress or SCOTUS, except that a lot of people just want to pretend he’s magically powerless to fulfill his campaign promises.

They wouldn’t have to be forever loans if they weren’t exempt from bankruptcy, but Joe showed up for Corporate America on that one. People are kind of just ignoring that he put his stamp of approval on screwing over America’s college students.

FlashMobOfOne,

He doesn’t need the courts.

He’s unilaterally done this multiple times.

Please stop lying to yourself.

There’s a part of me that’s kind of happy for an addict when they pass away.

The sad thing is having to live with addiction in a country where it’s stigmatized.

I was so ready to talk some trash, but this is pretty okay.

Mike Johnson Said Same-Sex Marriage Would Lead to People Marrying Their Pets, Wanted to Sentence Abortion Doctors to “Hard Labor” (www.vanityfair.com)

By now you’ve likely heard that Representative Mike Johnson—the congressman Republicans finally elected as the new Speaker of the House after 22 days of chaos—played a significant role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election, a lowlight on his résumé that is obviously deeply concerning for the future of democracy. Also...

If this isn’t motivation to stop voting delirious, brain-dead geriatrics into the presidency, I don’t know what is. This dude is two accidents away from being a fascist dictator.

FlashMobOfOne,

People vote for it every two years and are shocked, just shocked when they get precisely what they voted for.

Yup, and also ‘Saddam Has Uranium’.

America's nonreligious are a growing, diverse phenomenon. They really don't like organized religion (apnews.com)

Mike Dulak grew up Catholic in Southern California, but by his teen years, he began skipping Mass and driving straight to the shore to play guitar, watch the waves and enjoy the beauty of the morning. “And it felt more spiritual than any time I set foot in a church,” he recalled....

Not growing fast enough, sadly.

And I say this as one of them.

Yes and no.

Imagine how bad the water situation has to be for that government in particular to tell the Saudis and their infinite bank accounts to take a hike.

And no American company either for that matter.

You don’t need a wife. You don’t need to have kids. It’s cool to just enjoy yourself.

Does your tankometor go off every time someone brings up US history that discomfits you?

FlashMobOfOne,

About time.

This is the only way you were ever going to get someone better in that seat.

I look at this cartoon and I see so=called centrists.

FlashMobOfOne,

All the blue team cares about is the mean thing someone said the other day. All the red team cares about is guns and abortion.

So… in a way… everything’s working as intended, as depressing as it is to consider that thought.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Spouting bumper sticker slogans doesn’t change facts.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

False.

Obama had a supermajority for six months of his presidency. Dems have had the presidency with congressional control twice since 2008.

All we’ve gotten for it is more expensive health care and more money for war.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not assuming anything here. This person is making their position abundantly clear. They are Democratic partisan ideologue.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

It would seem that way if you didn’t understand it.

I’m not a Republican. I’m a Green Party supporter. One can’t look at the last 40 years of American governance without concluding that both major parties are complete shit, and that’s especially true on the issue of the minimum wage.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Oddly enough, none of the COVID vaccines or boosters have affected me in any significant way… but… I got my flu shot last week and it hit me like a freight train. I was having to fight to speak clearly in a work meeting thirty minutes after the injection, but on the plus side, it’s nice to know my body’s building an immune response.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Biden had a majority for two years and did jack shit on pay.

Can’t really blame them for being angry.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

They are when it comes to wages.

The federal minimum wage has been 7 bucks for fifteen years. Both sides have had a total majority with the presidency in that time frame.

Literally the same.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Yep.

The Punisher would have Gotham cleaned up in a week, including corrupt cops.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

What’s funny is that, if the Punisher were real, he’d 86 every one of those corrupt cops.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

LOL

The guys who’ve made 100+ billion appear out of thin air for another country’s war are totally concerned about hunger.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

You say that like it’s an actual rebuttal.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Your argument would have legs if the cost of those expenditures were to be deducted from the next budget, but you know it won’t be, and you know I’m right.

That said, yes, Congress has appropriated over $100,000,000,000 for another country’s war.

My point stands.

FlashMobOfOne, (edited )
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Not just apathetic.

Apathetic and functionally powerless.

One note though, there are some great books about the many assassination attempts on Adolf Hitler, some of which were perpetrated by regular citizens. There are also great books about citizen resistance figures. Those stories aren’t talked about enough. There were regular people who DID try to stop the Nazis.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Not really though…if young voters turned out en masse, they could replace all politicians with people they actually wanted. But they won’t, because “I’m not into politics” or “My vote doesn’t count”.

Voters did turn out en masse.

They were even promised $2000 checks if they turned out in Georgia. The Dems immediately changed the messaging and sent out $1400 instead when they won. (It went from $2000 checks to “finish the job”.) They wouldn’t even gives us back another $600 of our own money when they absolutely had the power to do it.

They’ve found 100+ billion for another country’s war, though.

That’s why people don’t vote. It’s not apathy. It’s the knowledge that missing a badly-needed day’s pay isn’t worth the time it takes to pull the lever.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re a wage earner there is no functional difference between the Democratic and Republican Party.

We’re going on 15 years of a seven-dollar federal minimum wage. Health care and education are unaffordable for most. Soon housing is going to be unaffordable for most.

I know it’s popular to blame the voters, but I imagine the decision between missing a day’s pay and voting for someone you know isn’t going to lift a finger to help you is, unfortunately, a very easy one. (At least for the 40,000,000 that can’t afford a sudden $400 expense without going further into debt.)

FlashMobOfOne, (edited )
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on locality. If it were a federal thing If agree with you.

Also voting is designed to be inaccessible and as inconvenient as possible, and that’s legal sadly.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

What’s horse shit is how you’ve failed to notice that Democrats only deign to act progressive when they no longer have the power to do anything meaningful. When they had the majority all they gave us was excuses.

What causes apathy is not having the money to go to a doctor or miss a day of work, which apparently you support.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

…people vote Democrat and Republican.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

The holes in your argument are:

Access doesn’t matter unless you can withstand the price gouging, which didn’t have to happen because Obama had a supermajority.

And the minimum wage, given that you can still be paid poverty wages legally in so many states, is an argument for voting Green, not Democrat.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

God DOES work in mysterious ways.

Mysteriously similar to random chance.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Yup.

Could have put the money in stock instead and they’d likely have made a profit since then.

@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Um, my older brother.

My older brother, as we speak, is trying to evict my Mom and Dad out of a home they spent 30 years and $400,000 to pay for. They didn’t save for retirement so they live off of DoorDashing, but they’re also elderly so there isn’t much they can do for work. I’m trying to help them raise money to save their home via GoFundMe.

He committed fraud against them in getting them to sign over the house.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Yup. She wanted a dozen but her body noped out after 11.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, mom wanted a dozen but couldn’t have any more after , so they started fostering. Then they started adopting and didn’t want to split up siblings who were related, and that led to the seven adoptions. They’ve got big hearts for sure.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

You’re absolutely right.

The state government does have some funding to assist fosters, but those choices are also why they have no retirement.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

They are in this way, absolutely.

Old, brain-dead assholes who can’t string together a coherent sentence.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I would rather pick the old guy whose base instinct is kindness.

That’s because it’s false.

Though I’d be impressed if Biden had the integrity to hold his own son to the same standards as the other Americans whose lives were wrecked thanks to the 94 crime bill.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, he does know a couple of big words that he uses over and over and over again, like ‘tremendous’. He still can’t form them into a coherent sentence.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I know that.

I’m not a Trump supporter either.

One thing, though: “Their guy is as shitty as our guy” isn’t the great defense you think it is.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I think you know full well, regardless of what Hunter Biden has done or will do, he is never going to see the inside of a jail cell. It’s really nice that Sleepy Joe has at least been performative in pretending that there’s real justice here, but there’s not.

Hunter Biden’s last name and his wealth will keep him out of jail. That’s how it works here in America.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Again “Their guy is as bad as our guy” isn’t the brilliant defense you think it is.
