Forgejo is a soft fork of Gitea, not the other way around

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

What does that have to do with anything?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I think he meant the application GNOME Software. Only valid point, I would like to be able to install or at least update my arch packages through GNOME Software like I do with flatpaks. Doesn’t have anything to do with the way Arch works tho, it’s just that no one has made a plugin yet that allows this.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

You don’t even need GrapheneOS for that, I’m using LineageOS and can turn off internet access for apps

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Definitely agree on the UI part. The UI of Gitea/Forgejo is very intuitive and easy to understand. When you go to a repository you just have the tabs to go to issues etc. and you can always see those at the top. The first time I used GitLab, I found it very unintuitive. There were 2 sidebars on the left side with their respective buttons right on top of each other. Issues and stuff are also in the sidebar, so I couldn’t find them immediately.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s why the fork Forgejo was made. Codeberg uses that fork as well.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I think they aren’t the ones who made the fork tho but just the ones with the most resources out of everyone working on the project. Correct me if I’m wrong.

@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Btw you can also download the wireguard config for your vpn and import in the system settings. Then you won’t have to open the mullvad app and can just toggle it on or off from the control center.

@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m thinking about selling my old phones on eBay. It’s better if someone can get any use out of them instead of them just laying around in my room.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Works perfectly fine for me. I’ve also used an app that used Google Maps in it and it worked perfectly fine. Instead of Google Maps it displayed the map on OpenStreetMap.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

The Sparkasse (german bank) app works perfectly fine. I use LineageOS with microG and I’m not logged in with a Google account or anything.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Depends on your bank. My bank’s app (Sparkasse) has always worked, even when I had Magisk installed.

would it be illegal to download Ubuntu on a Chromebook?

what if I, for example, had a job in Google and I liked Linux so much I install Ubuntu on my Chromebook, would that be illegal/send me to prison?? Or, if I had the job, would I be kicked?? I like Chromebooks because they are so smol and nice. But I don’t know if it’s legal to install a Linux distro on it. Thank you!!

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

What about that could possibly be illegal?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I wish there was a GTK Piped client. Freetube has that kinda janky feeling of a browser (it’s an Electron app, so not surprising) and I don’t see why I wouldn’t just use Piped in a browser then.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I actually have that in my library because I bought the Index but haven’t played it yet because I wanted to play the first 2 games first. I didn’t play the first game for very long tho because I got stuck at some point early into the game and haven’t felt like continuing yet. You can also really feel the age of that game, controls and that kinda stuff. Not sure if I should just punch through that game or just say fuck it and play Alyx.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Codeberg also uses Forgejo

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I think this is for new accounts only, if you already have an account, your E-Mail will already be verified

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Why does it matter where it’s based?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Why does that matter? It doesn’t make a difference

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Your data is only a few kilobytes anyway so it doesn’t make a difference

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

They’re probably getting personal data for advertising like Google does, right?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Proton works on any distro

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I actually self host it on a Raspberry Pi. Downside is that I can’t set up reverse DNS lookup, so some email providers won’t let me sent emails to them but it’s not a huge issue for me because I rarely send emails anyway. I mostly use my email for registrating accounts and that sort of stuff.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Can you use your own domain there?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Pretty sure my parents pay even more for 50 MBit. Live in Germany too.

Linux on a 2in1 for Uni (lemmy.world)

Hello linix@lemmy, I got fixed on the idea of replacing my iPad with a 2in1 like the thibkpad X13 for uni since I use the keyboard with my iPad a lot. The only time I need to take handwritten notes is in chemistry, mathematics and to annotate PDFs. Does anyone here have experience with convertibles running Linux? What would be...

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m using the HP Envy x360 convertible 15-eu[some numbers I don’t remember]. It’s working pretty good. Only things that don’t work are the fingerprint reader and it doesn’t detect when you flip it over automatically but I just use a GNOME extension that allows me to manually toggle the onscreen keyboard.

Android 14 experience so far on a non-Google device.

Hi, I just upgraded my Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G to Android 14 via PixelOS (a custom ROM). Best things I like about it is that it’s way smoother and faster than Android 13 (PixelOS). I got to experience Pixel specific features as well. I liked AI wallpaper but it takes some time to generate even with 100 Mbps connection. Other than...

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I use LineageOS, so I’ll have to wait until there’s a new version based on Android 14. It has some pretty cool looking stuff tho, like the changes they made to the back gesture. Definitely excited for it.

How tf is a disc supposed to fit in a handheld? It would have so many downsides and people haven’t been buying discs for pc games for years now

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m very sure most people don’t buy a new game every month. I don’t even know how you would find the time to finish them that fast.

Edit: I just noticed 30 games a year means more than 2 new games a month. Are you speedrunning them or something?!

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m pretty sure there are no cartridges for PC games at all

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Isn’t this just like zoom on Desktop browsers?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s already hard to convince people to use EVs, convincing them to use public transportation is even harder. It’s completely understandable why they don’t want to use public transportation tho: it kinda sucks in most countries. Here in germany it’s simply unreliable. If you use it to get to work, you can expect to get there late quite frequently and the same goes for the way home. Fixing the issues public transportation has and making cities less car dependent takes time and we don’t really have that much anymore. EVs aren’t perfect but it’s a compromise.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

My biggest issue with GTA Online was never the hackers but how tedious it is. They basically make you do the same missions for hours just so you can get one car and get killed by someone who bought an Opressor with Shark Cards.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I think Spotube supports that

Edit: Just saw someone else already recommended that but that you need to login with Spotify

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Newpipe doesn’t proxy through Piped tho

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Would be great if there was an option to automatically backup your account data to a cloud service (including Nextcloud) or just by sending it to your email

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Just want to add that the reason Bedrock can’t work on Linux is because you can only get it through the Microsoft Store and, as far as I know, there is no way, and there will probably never be a way, to get games from there on Linux

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Nothing Phone 1 with LineageOS-MicroG

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Thought the same thing. It definitely looks AI generated.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Dolphin has a hamburger menu too, what’s so weird about that?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

They’re gonna have to put those options somewhere and there’s only so much space in the top bar

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Bro is definitely not gonna be “a little toasty” with that amount 😭

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Just tested it with normal Firerox and surprisingly, that is actually smooth. Maybe it’s just an extension.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

I just tried normal Firefox and that seems to be as smooth as expected. Maybe it was just an extension.

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Firefox supports CSS themes tho, you can install something like this, for example, to make it look like Chrome. I haven’t tried it myself but it probably has the animations as well. If you’re on GNOME there’s also a Firefox GNOME theme.
