You can do this. But you need to use rethinkdns and download the configuration of the proton vpn wireguard server(s) you wanna reach. You can have internet blocked for individual apps, have some tunnel without VPN but DNS and firewall protection and some go through servers of proton (even per app to different servers). It’s a powerful tool. You won’t get the same protection as you would get with let’s say GrapheneOS but you are getting damn close to it if done right
If I only wanted to degoogle and disable other manufacturer’s bloatware from my Android device, is using adb to “uninstall” the system apps from user 0 pretty much as effective as rooting and using something like debloat terminal while rooted or are there bypasses that make rooting the better option? I’m not concerned...
The first thing to consider is what you want to archive. Security and privacy are not the same thing, however go hand in hand. With rooting you can go deeply into your systems setup, however it also opens potential threats against you. Adb is more secure. When it comes to privacy consider also rethinkdns or any other firewall. You can block internet access to specific apps and even system apps.
The whole point of me making certain payments with crypto is for it not to be attached to my name. obviously the crypto service company has my cc details. whats the most privacy friendly one? ty :)
I have no Facebook or Instagram etc and never had. And I have friends and meet people. I think people who are interested in you have no problem with your stand even changing the username all the time is a bit strange haha
You don’t need shelter. Create a multiple user account one just for that app… on GrapheneOS. It is totally isolated from the rest. You can use a vpn just in that user profile too
One aspect of the Data Safety section that the Play Store introduced last year is the ability to feature “Independent security reviews.” Google Play is more prominently surfacing that badge when you search for VPN apps.
Research some of the history and who owns the company etc… I would need to DuckDuckGo it myself so I leave it to you… they been having a leak for years before addressed etc… it been a while back again. All public domain for research
But most of all the referral commission they pay… together with express everyone recommend it for the referral commission… make a research and you find out why. IVPN and Mullvad need no IP logs no email etc… that’s the once I would recommend
I dont want to start a fight or anything like that, I have to decide between these 2 and cant figure out which is the best and why, mostly because if you ask on X they just start swearing to each other without giving any real explanation, can anyone help a person who want to embrace privacy and anonimity?
GrapheneOS is unmatched when it comes to security features including hardening. Don’t get me wrong calyx is great and when you like to use microG then it’s there. With graphene you can also install google play and framework (if you wish so) but in a different approach. It’s like a normal app. So you can do it with network access given or not even etc… it’s worth to test out also the profiles and separate your life into profiles… you can have on one google service on one not etc… and all getting push notifications. Most banking apps work (to be honest very had any issues.)
With calyx like I say it’s a privacy but not security hardened approach. And calyx been back in security updates what been pushed from google sometimes for months. For me it’s a clear choice but it’s your call…
This is actually more than welcome. I never understood why you could have your signal on your phone and ipad, but not on two phones. Applaud molly to do so!
I’ve been using skiff. com for sometime, as they claim to be a fully privacy preserving app suite like GApps or proton. One thing I like is they provide 10GB storage even for free accounts, where proton eventhough much bigger provides only 500MB....
Skiff is pretty good, I switched from proton over as they had a good one year promo and I found it fits better on what I need. The drive and page setup is pretty good too and so is the calendar. Overall I like skiff and they update and add a lot almost weekly. Big fan so far
Honestly the lack of ad blockers in Vanadium pushes me towards Firefox even though the devs say that Firefox is far less secure. So many web sites are just hard to use on mobile without an ad blocker so I’m curious what the rest of you are doing.
You could use DNS and stick with Vanadium. AdGuard, nextdns, decloudus, Mullvad… all good for ad blocking and probably more effective as it’s system wide
I heard a lot of bad stuff about Brave and their CEO lately and am now unsure if the search engine is any good? Do they censor stuff? Is any data collected? Can it be considered private?...

Hey everyone, I’m still pretty new to using my GrapheneOS phone and have been slowly transitioning to a more privacy oriented technology lineup than I previously did....
Yes for the browser i agree, sadly apps have trackers and ads too. A dns can be useful if it’s system wide for all that stuff. Nextdns, adguard, rethinkdns or decloudus comes to mind
As far as I remember, that was back in 2021, and except some Meta data not much what could been shared. If they have been approached under Swiss law, nothing can be done.
Best Linux Distro Privacy/Usability for a mid level user
What do you think is the best linux distro for a user who wants to migrate from windows in terms of privacy, usability and respect for the FOSS spirit?
Own server is always the most private, but you can use any instance and should be fine. Its e2ee, so you should have a way better setup as with slack or Microsoft
Looks interesting, yet not open source? What is a d-payment? Some own coin stuff or erc20? Anyhow, I never used any of the two, and I wonder why we need more?
After this announcement, I am planning to reject meetings organised in zoom. But the problem is that it’s really good. So, is there any privacy friendly and viable alternatives to zoom? It does not have to be open source because I nearly tried all alternatives. Your experiences?
Jitsi, perhaps matrix (element), signal (has tell number) works too. Threema also added video into it… and an unpopular one brave (has it without signing in, within the browser)
That is a sad reality when it comes to samsung. Beat you can do is adb the apps away you don’t want, and use rethinkdns (firewall) combined with the dns of them, nextdns or decloudus.
Is not GrapheneOS, but it’s a little more private as out of the box.
Blocking app access to the internet
Question for the group on a problem I’m trying to solve: How can I block internet access for some apps on standard, OOTB Android?...
