Oh so some Republicans still quietly like freedom, got it.

Yes, but also there are many adult children for whom the same applies.

“Good faith” = corporations screwing you

“Bad faith” = you screwing corporations

There, I’ve simplified it.

As if there weren’t enough money behind Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft is about to buy them. You might as well wish for the oceans to dry up.

I am so confused… this is being posted to lemmy.film. That’s like walking into a 7-Eleven and asking if there’s some place where you can buy a flavored ice drink.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

I do understand what you’re saying - specific communities for different movies & shows. What I didn’t realize is that lemmy.film doesn’t allow community creation. If they did, that would allow people to create communities just like you’re saying.

I don’t know of any other film-centric instances, but try searching here I suppose: lemmyverse.net

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Apologies, didn’t see the “Create Community” button up top like I’m used to on lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, etc. And I’m browsing from old.lemmy.world most of the time anyway. :P

OP, go be the change you want to see and create the communities for the movies & shows you want.

@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, sure, bringing things back on prem where 90% of organizations do not have comparable resources in-house to manage and secure them, as opposed to leveraging a cloud provider and properly maintaining the shared responsibility model is going to “set us free”.

I’d say it’s more that computers only enabled the opportunity for humans to invent the security problems that other humans now have to counter with better computer and human solutions.

Are you talking about accepting payment, or a card for use as a company spending account? I think most answers so far are assuming you’re talking about accepting a card type as payment for your goods and/or services.

Letters from the lawyers: Musk threatens CCDH with brazen attempt to silence honest criticism. — Center for Countering Digital Hate | CCDH (counterhate.com)

“Last week we got a letter from Elon Musk’s X. Corp threatening CCDH with legal action over our work, exposing the proliferation of hate and lies on Twitter since he became the owner. I was just trying to play the original a few weeks ago and man it’s rough. The controls are jank af. I don’t know how I managed to play it back in the day even, but I remember it being fun. The guns are really something else.

Good to see that they’ve upgraded it… to run on what looks like the gzDOOM engine. :P

Pretty sure it’s an old businessman thing. “Go for (my name)!” in a cock-sure tone is pretty much how I would expect any old business hot-shot asshole to answer the phone.

looking for a game that i only can remember description of

Saw a game review of a battle royal game like 1-3 months ago, it had a large player capacity per match very simple cartoonish graphics(maybe 2 team one is green and one can’t remember) , had helecopters and sniper rifels and you could choose class… it was available on steam… if anybody know the game matching description...

Starlink has become the 'blood' of Ukraine's communication infrastructure, but officials are reportedly growing concerned about relying on Elon Musk's tech (www.businessinsider.com)

Ukraine’s digital minister has reported concerns about the country’s overreliance on Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet system amid the war with Russia, The New York Times reports.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not saying this is happening, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we found out that Musk was leaking any and all traffic from Starlink, including Ukraine military comms, in the name of “”“free speech”“”.

Ah, well, “designed to run over the internet”. Okay then. I guess no ISP has ever been able to MitM intercept traffic.

You realize there was a good decade between the first home PC games and the time when computer mice became ubiquitous, right? You’re going to have to say something about the game other than “text based”, because that’s no more descriptive than “mouse based” or “gamepad based”.

News: Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants to build a new agency to police Big Tech (www.theverge.com)

The bill, sponsored by Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), would create a new agency called the Digital Consumer Protection Commission that would be empowered to go after giant tech firms for a slew of anti-competitive behaviors and failing to protect consumer privacy.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

It’s either something like this, or you trust big tech corporations to police themselves. Do you have a 3rd option?

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

“Corporate self governance” doesn’t exist. Whatever fucks the consumer for more profit is the only rule they follow.

DarraignTheSane,

Yeah, I’m not even sure which option I’m in favor of. It’s a shit situation all around.

If by “well maintained grass” you’re talking about a flat, maintained sports field or something of the sort, likely yes. If you mean grass that’s been cut but the ground is otherwise natural with bumps and holes, then you’ll probably have problems.

It does depend on the chair, but most are not built for off-roading. Also will depend on if you’re the pusher or if you’re talking about propelling yourself (as the wheelchair occupant).

Those with parents who hold opposite political views than you, how do you go about disagreeing?

To be more specific, my parents raised my siblings and me to “respect” them, saying "yes sir, and “no ma’am” to everything they said. Spankings, all of that. Typical super conservative evangelical parents. Before I learned better, I was that way too. I went to college and since then have embraced the left more and...

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

I wish I could find it easier to simply ignore my aging parents’ political views like I do with most acquaintances in the deep red state I live in, but I can’t.

The people who raised me to be kind and emphasize with others now base their worldview in fear and hatred. As far as I’m concerned my parents died sometime around 2016 (or perhaps before then), and there are some kind of racist pod people in their place.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

But also know that understanding isn’t always going to bring resolution. Sometimes all you come to understand is that the people who raised you are, in actuality, thoroughly racist.

When it comes to Samsung, look at their “Pro” TVs, which are intended for businesses to use for digital signage. I’ve never had to deal with any of the very few smart features it has popping up or annoying me in any way.

I’m no expert on picture quality but it looks damned good to me, and it’s supposedly built to run 24/7 and not burn out since as said it’s intended for digital signage.

What's something you used to do/see/say but don't anymore because you don't feel it's right?

Me personally? I’ve become much less tolerant of sexist humor. Back in the day, cracking a joke at women’s expense was pretty common when I was a teen. As I’ve matured and become aware to the horrific extent of toxicity and bigotry pervading all tiers of our individualistic society, I’ve come to see how exclusionarly and...

Would you then advocate that no one should ever use the words “idiot”, “moron”, or “cretin” ever again? What about “dumb”, or “stupid”?

@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe I’m misinterpreting what you’re saying, but lemmy.one has basically no content on it other than the 8 communities that @jonah has created or allowed there. The whole point of that server is to allow people to simply login and then participate in other instances from there.

That is all to say, lemmy.one would be one of the “smaller” instances from a standpoint of content to be indexed by Google.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t quite realize that, figured that when you were viewing another instances’ content it was loading from that instance. I guess that means that Lemmy content across all instances has loads of redundant copies.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone’s going to say No, and “just subscribe to the most active one”, but if you’re a ‘Fediverse completionist’ and want to ensure that there’s not a single thing you miss anywhere at any time, then the answer is Yes.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Correct. Ultimately it’s up to each person how much they want to extend themselves into the Fediverse. You really can’t follow everything everywhere all the time, so you need to pick what you want your feed to consist of.

I’ve subscribed to any redundant tech / IT security related communities no matter how many of them there are, because I always want to stay current on any news that could impact the network environment I manage.

On the other hand, I like seeing some memes, but [email protected] will absolutely flood your front page if you subscribe to it, so I stick to a few smaller meme subs like [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected].

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

I’d bet they reacted like they did specifically because the person is a minor - a minor who is in the care of the airline and who they’re responsible for until they reach the intended destination. If the final flight arrived without the minor on it without it being intended, they would most certainly have some level of liability for the minor’s whereabouts.

Yep. It’s because assholes who cry about “free speech” tend to not understand this - xkcd.com/1357

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

This is great, but christofascist-run states are just going to either straight outlaw it, or enact some kind of requirements making it virtually impossible to obtain anyway. A med being over the counter doesn’t stop them from making it legally or at least practically unavailable.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly. But, as another person pointed out this does make it easily obtainable by delivery.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely.

@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

If the question asked was “do you agree to the contract?” and the farmer answered “👍”, then yeah I can see it. But if the question asked was “have you received the contract?”, then this ruling is bullshit. Unfortunately the article doesn’t have enough information either way.

DarraignTheSane,
@DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, well then yeah he should have been more explicit, or simply not replied.
