Backspacecentury,

I get the feeling you’ve never been outside North America if you think cars here are small.

Backspacecentury,

Well, except the article is about Paris and cars in the US are not small or underpowered.. at all. Kind of a ridiculous statement, actually. The average car in Europe is much smaller than those in the US with a much smaller engine. For example, the most popular car in France in 2022 was the Peugot 208 with a 1.2L engine with around 74hp and a length of 4m, while the most popular car in the US, the Camry has a engine options ranging between 2.4L-3.5L, around 208hp and a length of 4.8m (almost 3’ longer for you yanks).

I mean, they have to be. European fuel prices are double or more and most countries/cities have proper transit and were not built for US size cars (or any cars for that matter).

Most Albertans don't want the province to pull out of CPP, survey finds (www.ctvnews.ca)

One month after finance ministers met to discuss the Alberta government's intent to pull out of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) public opinion polling by the Angus Reid Institute suggests there's little desire among Albertans or the rest of Canada to see Alberta leave the plan.

Backspacecentury,

As if Smith gives a single shit what Albertans or anyone except her O&G backers want.

Backspacecentury,

Well... they seem to get that mixed up pretty often.

Backspacecentury,

Lip injections. Not once has looking like you just got hit in the mouth with a hockey puck helped someone look better.

Backspacecentury,

Uhhh, Russia isn’t in NATO.. it’s quite literally the enemy of NATO.

Backspacecentury,

You have forgotten the meaning of remembrance if you think the point is to glorify war. It’s meant to remember the sacrifices made, not hope for more.

Backspacecentury,

That’s pretty wild actually. Can’t imagine that many of these votes are near unanimous.

Trump, who once appeared to defend January 6 threats against Pence, calls on his former VP to endorse him (edition.cnn.com)

“Because I had a great successful presidency, and he was the vice president, he should endorse me,” said Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nod. “I chose him, made him vice president. But … people in politics can be very disloyal. I’ve never seen anything like it.”...

Backspacecentury,

Well.. he’s not part of “treasonous anonymous” because he’s clearly part of “treasonous obvious” aka the GOP.

They don’t need to be anonymous about it, sadly.

Backspacecentury,

Just gonna tap an oil exec as a one-man arts board in Banff. Nothing to see here.

Backspacecentury,

This guy wants Gilead and he's not quiet about it.

Backspacecentury,

This is the exact anti-science, anti-community garbage that would come out of a Poilievre government, guaranteed. "We're all in this together" doesn't apply to extremely selfish conservatives who get all their news from outrage-bait like Ezra Levant or Fox News.

From climate change to vaccinations to women's rights against forced birth to the cbc, this guy has the worst possible takes on all of them and he will be an absolute disaster in Canada.

Backspacecentury,

Is this the same palm that they clear cut rainforests for? The cutting for palm oil (that’s in basically all candy) is absolutely disastrous.

Backspacecentury,

Danielle Smith government uses deceptive, incomplete and incorrect data to mislead and divide voters.

Might as well have that headline on standby for the rest of what is already shaping up to be an absolutely disastrous premiership from an awful, ignorant person. Buckle up Alberta, you’ve made a huge mistake.

Backspacecentury,

Don’t penalize us for poor management because we will force our employees to make unsafe choices in the name of profits is a pretty fucking bold take there, airlines.

Backspacecentury,

I read another article that said the half number comes from the idea that Alberta had never contributed to CPP and had their own plan since the sixties, when in reality, if you were to calculate how much they would be “owed” would be closer to 20%. Still a large number, but the way this report will be pushed on the Albertan populace to try to push a yes vote on a referendum is so underhanded and classless. Which, of course, is exactly what everyone had to expect from the physical embodiment of ignorance that is Danielle Smith.

Backspacecentury,

While I would tend to agree, if I'm reading this correctly, they sent the letters for the sentencing... meaning he was already convicted of rape and they were pleading for leniency for an old rapist buddy, like within the last few months. That is a really bad look no matter how you slice it.

Backspacecentury,

Ah yes, the ol’ Canadian corruption switcheroo. Just like Genivar changing to WSP after the sponsorship scandal.

Backspacecentury,

Great, now do the Scientologist pricks that protected him for years and threatened his victims.

Backspacecentury,

I knew Jay years ago. Have to say that this is.. not surprising.

Whether the position of power/consent is proven or not, he definitely shouldn’t be in a teaching position if he can’t keep his hands off teenagers.

Backspacecentury,

This is the dumbest argument.

If you want to stick it to facebook, tell people to stop using it and direct them to better sites for news. This guy is so tone deaf.

Backspacecentury,

Is there a difference between artefact and artifact? Or is it just another weird thing in the english language?

Backspacecentury,

Seeing as they are specifically tailored to each person and they work to treat those that already have pancreatic cancer… is vaccine the correct term?

Is it a vaccine because it induces a response within the patient that then kills the cancer, whereas something that would be considered a treatment would directly destroy the cancer like anti-biotics do to bacterial infections?

Backspacecentury,

Can I recommend Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? I just finished it, it's sci-fi-ey and a very enjoyable standalone story. The art is really good as well. I really enjoyed it.

Greg Rutkowski Was Removed From Stable Diffusion, But AI Artists Brought Him Back - Decrypt (decrypt.co)

Greg Rutkowski, a digital artist known for his surreal style, opposes AI art but his name and style have been frequently used by AI art generators without his consent. In response, Stable Diffusion removed his work from their dataset in version 2.0. However, the community has now created a tool to emulate Rutkowski’s style...

Backspacecentury,

Was he paid for his art to be included?

Backspacecentury,

Wow.. so in your mind there is basically no copyright and nobody owns anything. That is incredibly reductive and completely ignores centuries of legal precedence since the constitution was written.

You are basically claiming that anything that is ever put on display anywhere, ever is public domain and that piracy doesn't exist.

Backspacecentury,

Why was someone over 85 put on multiple committees? It’s not like she’s just now slowing down, she’s lost it completely already, this can’t be a surprise to anyone. The system is so fucked.

Backspacecentury,

Oh wow, thanks for the explanation. It’s worse than I thought.

I suppose I thought there might have been some checks and balances to prevent someone with dementia from continuing to clutch onto power, guess not.

Backspacecentury,

So long as Feinstein continues to choose to run, there is little that anyone can do. At least those constituents can see that the republican party is a non-starter as they actively make everything worse for everyone.

Afaik, there is not a single R that would pull a Manchin or Simena and vote against party lines (for more progress at least, many of them will vote against out of spite or to push to make things even worse).

Celebrating A true Canadian hero (lemmy.ca)

40 years ago today Terry Fox, a 21 year old Canadian who lost a leg to cancer, began an east to west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He ran the equivalent of a full marathon every day and made it to 145 days and 5,373km before he was forced to stop and he lost his battle with cancer.

Backspacecentury,

It's really not. They do not give a shit about what it looks like. All they care about is clicks for ad revenue. They waited from 2017 to 2022 to re-do place, then they do it again a year later, directly after introducing a ton of unpopular changes?

Naw fam, this is 100% them generating traffic and anyone that keeps going to place is falling right into their hands, regardless of what message they think they're sending.

Backspacecentury,

Looks amazing, love the herby cucumber salad too!

Backspacecentury,

As an IDW comics enjoyer, I love Sonic the Hedgehog being on this graph.

That is all.
