I run an Airbnb hosting in a room on my house for like 3 years and I’m still amazed by how little people actually did it. Even after we sat a signal asking for it just above the flush button. Having feces particles all around your brushes, toothbrushes, towels, etc is an image nobody has but myself it seems.

Can confirm. During my whole primary school there were two twin girls in my class and me and all my other mates could tell them apart instantly but any other child in the school couldn’t. As a user living in Norway, I can say that nothing has changed yet and Meta still does whatever the fuck they want. I use it Facebook from time to time and Facebook still shows me ads related to what I do in an out of Facebook. Even when I use adblockers in all my devices and alternative search engines like Duckduckgo or Ecosia, they still know what are my new interests in and out of facebook and keep showing me personalized ads. I even disabled within facebook to track me outside of facebook. Nothing works for them.

Every generation thinks they are smarter than the previous one and it’s not true: most individuals are ignorant and a minority are smart in every generation, no matter what or how old, but youth gives an exacerbated sense of self-confidence making them believe they can control and know everything. So, we will be forced to see ads, while they can’t yet control who’s publishing those ads. I wonder why Google (and any other ad company) hasn’t been sued yet for showing and infecting malware into the people who click on their ads. Maybe is not that critical or easy for a domestic user, but corporations or governments?

And it’s not because it’s impossible to verify malware before accepting their ads, it’s because THEY DONT CARE. If they can detect music on videos for copyright claims, they can analyze everything, they can also verify publishers. And if they can’t with an algorithm, they should use humans to manually verify publishers.

I recommend you to review your sources: before the start of the WWII, Stalin and Hitler signed an agreement so each could invade their own countries without interfering each other (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact). Both sides were doing the same thing from each their side until Hitler broke the Pact by trying to invade Russia. Only then Stalin begun fighting the nazis as you claim.

Of course the USSR lost millions fighting the nazis by the end of the WWII, I know and I’m not negating that, what I’m pointing out it that Stalin did the same as Hitler at the start of the war: invade Poland and tried to invade Finland (two points you and your friends at Lemmygrad carefully avoided to mention).

And sorry to say, but, what other states did 100 years ago is totally relevant. My grandparents suffered the Spanish civil war, my parents were raised in a dictatorship, I live now in Norway, another country invaded by nazis, I’ve friends from Finland who really hate Russians because what they did not so long ago. I’ve friends from Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine. Do you want to hear what all agree on? Russian are crazy dangerous people (not the street people, but their leaders).

I despise any imperialistic, paranoid egomaniac where their ideals are more important than human lives. Hitler, Stalin, Putin, Trump, all are the same bullshit and as dangerous as the others. Any country trying to invade another is bad, no matter what.

  • Does it has databases like Notion?
  • Does it has a browser extension to capture content from the web?

I know I can look for it myself on the web, and I’ll do right now, but I think that having here the answers will help others with the same questions.

Thank you! I downloaded and tried it and I like it a lot! Runs really smooth and the features like end to end encryption, decentralized and local sync between devices and being open software are enough reasons to jump onboard!

I’m not a power user and I want to use it personally for myself (not a business) and after seeing what it can do and how smooth it is, I’m in!

I’ve been reading their FAQ and this sounds very reasonable:

  • If you want to use their cloud for backup, it will have a cost (they have not come with one yet because they have not come that far yet. It’ll depend on their hosting cost and such).
  • But if you want to just sync between your own devices without their server, you can, and it’ll be totally free (they insist that “your data is always yours and only yours”)

I’m trying it and i would say it’s quite close. As far as I know, it lacks the last recent updates like action buttons and AI spam (that’s a positive one for me). But it has databases like Notion, my biggest requirement for a second brain, so I’m in.

I don’t have a cristal ball to refute your answer but I have my knowledge about history and biology to disagree: life in earth has to main goals: survive and reproduce. There’re many species nowadays adapted to what most people consider extreme heat: from elephants to lions, hienas, giraffes, humans, many species of trees and bushes, etc. They will just survive by simply moving their migration routes somewhere else (plants and herbivores would start the shift, predators would follow them).

Humans are extremely adaptable, as you may see if you look at how there’s human life everywhere on the planet. We would need to adapt, for sure, but we as species will survive. That doesn’t mean it will be simple, but we will. Many years ago an expert said on a documentary (can’t remember, sorry) that the next world war would be centered about water control. I agree.

With the way the world's going, is there even a point to anything anymore?

Climate is fucked, animals continue to go extinct even more, our money will be worth nothing the coming years… What motivation do I even have to care to keep going? Sorry, old habits from Reddit. I agree with you. This is one great thing I learnt from stoicism and is a great approach in life. It doesn’t mean to become an ignorant about global issues or don’t care at all, it means to focus on what you can do in your life to help or to have a good life:

Can you fix global warming? Not alone. Then, don’t worry about it in your day life. But, what can you do to help? Can you reduce or stop using plastic bags? Then do it. Have you the money to buy an electric car? Then do it. If not, don’t worry about it until you can.

Stoicism for me is also a great tool to reduce a big problem I can’t solve into smaller actionable problems I may be able to solve and helps me focus on them. It truly helps you to reduce stress about big problems.

Not because Norway will be big enough to make them to change, but because it can send the example for the EU and other countries and if the rest of the world (I have very little hope for the US to go against a corporation) bans Facebook, then they’ll have to move and change their antics.

Me too, specially when I was younger I thought we could change the world for good if united. I saw cristal clear that the rich wanted to be richer at the expense of the poorer, but as I grew older and saw the reality and stupidity of the world (Like Trump, a massively rich guy being massively voted by the poorest and less educated people) I lost hope. I came to realize that education and stoicism and the best tools the human race has to progress to a healthy society. So that’s what I try to share now when I can.

yeah, it’s true that some humans are really bad, but they’re nothing without (poorly educated) followers, and their followers are the one that give those humans the power to do evil things. Critical thinking is something that should be taught more often to avoid history from repeating.

I agree! And it’s reversible, and it’s specially satisfying by holding it from the cable and just approaching it to the macbook and feel (it happens too fast to see it) how it moves and snaps into place no matter what. It’s the only one ever I always have had a 100% success rate ever.

Not really. They’re not indifferent at all. In reality they act like narcissistic and like psychopathic humans. I watched a documentary years ago exploring that and talking with psychologists about symptoms and they agreed that they behave like psychopaths. And don’t forget that they are run by humans.

Corporations:

  • Can buy and sell stuff
  • Can do evil things without consequences (an employee can pay the consequences but the company will keep going).
  • They have no remorse or empathy.
  • Can manipulate to reach their goals, no matter who (from media to politics to countries).
  • Whenever somebody at the top can’t reach an economical goal, that person is fired and replaced by one who can. It’s like a hive evil mind.
  • Goal #1 is always money (absolute selfish and egomaniac), no matter what or who.

no. I mostly used Reddit from mobile, and since Apollo went down, I just used it once from my laptop to find a link. Other than that, 100% lemmy using Wefwef.

Blender by a huge mile. Yes, there’s tons of other software like Linux, of course, but Blender is such a powerful, well managed, economically viable and healthy (community) project that it should be shown as an example of how Open Source should be.

My biggest hurdle with other projects is the fanboys, because many times they’re quite toxic, insulting everybody who doesn’t adore the project and don’t accept constructive criticism.

To my knowledge there’s no stagnant water on my property, I’ve run water through all my ptraps, and I’m careful to not leave doors open. Yet at any given time there’s at least 3 in my house. I can’t sleep, i can’t sit on the couch, i can’t exist in the fear of being sucked dry....

agree on the nets for doors and windows. For doors there’s also some nets with magnets that can be crossed though and they will self-close perfectly every single time thanks to the magnets.

Badminton is great too, including against flies, wasps and whatever manages to get in.

it depends in my experience. Mine has lasted for years, but I had to stretch the net a bit to avoid contact with the middle one after a bad hit. In my experience, if one don’t think one’s at Wimbledon, they should last.
