Most settings applications (GNOME Settings, KDE Control Center) give very limited access to managing lower level components in the system. For example, kernel management, managing groups, etc....
I’m just curious for the new or existing people? Lemmy.ml has taken a hard turn to the right since the reddit exodus. There’s been a lot of pro-imperialist propaganda being posted on world news, and a lot less diversity of opinion. It feels more neoliberal and neo-con to me....
Sorry, couldn’t resist the clickbait title, but yes, THOSE should be checked from time to time, too....
I have finally found an indexer with a lot of German releases, but sadly Germans are so bad in naming things that Sonarr keeps overriding wrong episodes (pokemin for example, wehre the new netflix episodes are counted as pokemon reisen s01e01) Now I thought, maybe I can help / get help from others with German releases etc.
We’ve upgraded lemmy.world to 0.18.1-rc.1 and rolled back that upgrade because of issues....
In the world of file sharing, BitTorrent has long been hailed as the go-to protocol for its efficient initial distribution capabilities. However, when it comes to maintaining availability and ensuring the longevity of shared files, BitTorrent falls short. There are several alternative platforms that make it much easier to share...
Whenever I wipe my PC, I use tar to make an archive of the whole system. This works, but having to decompress the whole archive to pull files out is very annoying. Is there another archive format that:...
Hey so my partner has Liftoff to browse Lemmy, and I noticed his search engine allows search for comments, posts, communities etc where as Jerboa just lets me search communities....
Hi, I can spin up for free a Windows VPS (win server 2016 with graphical interface or win server 2022 core version since it has only 1GB of RAM). The problem is that outside of Linux I have absolutely no experience. I would like to try hosting something also on Windows server just to take away some load from other machines or...
By default most people run Wireguard on port 51822. This of course shows that you are running a VPN. Is it better to run on another port, for example 443? But I heard that some ISPs frown on that....
I am zeroing out some old drive - some may not have secure erase. If I issue the command:...
From a technical and legal standpoint, ignoring ethics and dignity, is there anything preventing us from scripting a scraper that recreates reddit posts in a lemmy instance? Like maybe top 50 posts of the top 20 subreddits, without comments. I think it would help convince people to join, since the major argument for sticking...
I'm sure everyone lately has noticed there's a tonne of hate on the privacy subreddit, with every new post/comment there getting more and more aggresive than the last...
Have you ever visited this place? I have heard they have very nice food and heavy transportation and so many cool mass events....
Too many people are confusing the two. Whenever lemmy.ml or its devs do something stupid, people go “Lemmy is getting worse and worse,” or “I’m leaving Lemmy,” or worse, “I’m leaving for Beehaw.”...
It seems that posts on Lemmy cannot exceed 10000 characters. If you type in more than 10000 characters and try to submit the post, you will see that the post submission is being processed but you won't come any further than that. The post submission will remain in status pending indefinitely.
I think this could save me some battery time. I checked tlp but could not find anything related. In Sway config with swayidle maybe? All help appreciated.
Are you all building something currently? https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/44c8b8bd-39d2-4aa8-ae9d-31d6877b2bf1.png...
I've been doing small hosting off and on for a while. Mainly for accessing files at home and the occasional Minecraft server. Not smart, as I've never used a specialized router. I used to use ddwrt, but now it's impossible to flash most consumer grade routers....
By this I mean: something that can view and fully interact with multiple different services like Lemmy, Mastodon, etc....
