I got this fun fee after trying to order takeout from Buffalo Wild Wings (yes I'm naming and shaming). How exactly does adding a dollar help you operate takeout? It's literally less work than waiting on a table. This is nothing more than a shameful cash grab to pad profits....
Get enough experience and you just have a brief moment of stage 3 as you dive straight to stage 4.
Unless it's a customer/that-one-guy-at-work (it's a title, but there's usually a handful of them) and then there's this vast stage 0 of back and forth of "are you sure that's happening, run these commands and paste the entire output to me" to be sure of what they are saying then you jump to stage 3/4.
ka = the potential prize in box B; i.e. "k times larger than a"
p = the odds of a false positive. That is, the odds that you pick box B only and it got nothing, because dumb machine assumed that you’d pick A too.
n = the odds of a false negative. That is, the odds that you pick A+B and you get the prize in B, because the machine thought that you wouldn’t pick A.
So the output table for all your choices would be:
pick nothing: 0
pick A: a
pick B: (1-p)ka
pick A+B: a + nka
Alternative 4 supersedes 1 and 2, so the only real choice is between 3 (pick B) or 4 (pick A+B).
You should pick A+B if a + nka > (1-p)ka. This is a bit messy, so let’s say that the odds of a false positive are the same as the odds of a false negative; that is, n=p. So we can simplify the inequation into
a + nka > (1-n)ka // subbing “p” with "n"
1 + nk > (1-n)k // divided everything by a
1 + nk - (1-n)k > 0 // changed sides of a term
1 + 2nk -k > 0 // some cleaning
n > (k-1)/2k // isolating the junk constant
In OP’s example, k=1000, so n > (1000-1)/(2*1000) → n > 999/2000 → n > 49.95%.
So you should always pick B. And additionally, pick A if the odds that the machine is wrong are higher than 49.95%; otherwise just B.
Note that 49.95% is really close to 50% (a coin toss), so we’re actually dealing with a machine that can actually predict the future somewhat reliably, n should be way lower, so you’re probably better off picking B and ignoring A.
Both! Critically, the contents of box B depend on the machine's prediction, not on whether it was correct or not (i.e. not on your subsequent choice). So it's effectively a 50/50 coin toss and irrelevant to the decision-making process. Let's break down the possibilities:
Machine predicts I take B only, box B contains $1B:
I take B only - I get $1B.
I take both - I get $1.001B
Machine predicts I take both, box B is empty:
I take B only - I get nothing.
I take both - I get $1M.
Regardless of what the machine predicts, taking both boxes produces a better result than taking only B. The question can be restated as "Do you take $1M plus a chance to win $1B or would you prefer $0 plus the same chance to win $1B?", in which case the answer becomes intuitively obvious.
I use Firefox and the arkenfox user.js, which is not an extension, but helps with privacy. For the extensions, though, they are as follows:
uBlock Origin // on medium mode (Check out what blocking modes are if you don't know them already)
LibRedirect // to redirect to more privacy respecting alternatives
Skip Redirect // for increased privacy in terms of redirects
Smart Referer // on strict mode. I use this as I have set network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy to 0 as 2 was a little too strict for me
I think more extensions than these would probably hurt my setup. I have followed the advice from the arkenfox wiki. Check it out if you want to look into a more private and secure Firefox configuration. Also feel free to criticize or ask questions about my setup :)
I am just very weary of the idea that the government should use federal funds to bail out people who simply made poor decisions. Plenty of people get through college with a reasonable amount of debt, instead of some insane 6-figure total. Let me elaborate:
My girlfriend is a graduate student with a family poor enough to qualify her for the Pell grant, and yet she will have less than 50k in debt when she graduates! Better yet, she only took out so much in loans because she knows that she can expect to earn a 6-figure salary with her pharmacy degree. Her pharmacy school costs $40,000 a year, and yet she is able to pay most of that money up front by working 30-hour weeks during the school year, and 50-hour weeks during the summer). It's tough on her, but she has an incredibly bright future ahead because of the hard work.
If you look at the demographics, the poorest people in our society - those who are food insecure and/or homeless, have a median of 0 DOLLARS of student loan debt. That's because many of them were too poor to even consider college in the first place! Those with 6-figure debt are often members of the middle class who didn't come up with a reasonable plan for paying what they owe based on their credentials, and didn't take measures to reduce their loans during college. Instead of using federal funds on those people, I want it to go to someone who is truly in need.

If you use Steam for gaming, then probably most games will work either directly or through a specific Proton version (you can set this in Steam). Games that won’t run are most 3rd-party launcher games and games that intentionally use ring 0 spyware.
The thing that would make it work for me is free charging at work, which would also be one of the customers whose junk I'd be disposing. $0 fuel costs.

Checkout smartctl. You can either force shutdown immediately or after some idle time. Command is something like this:
smartctl -n -s standby,VALUE /dev/sda with value either "now" or something between 0 and 255. From the manpage:
Values from 1 to 240 specify timeouts from 5 seconds to 20 minutes in 5 second increments. Values from 241 to 251 specify timeouts from 30 minutes to 330 minutes in 30 minute increments. Value 252 specifies 21 minutes. Value 253 specifies a vendor specific time between 8 and 12 hours. Value 255 specifies 21 minutes and 15 seconds.
As much as I dislike what’s going on - sabotaging ones work has next to 0 impact on the company scheme of things. All it does is, give you a bad exit once you leave - or if you keep it up long enough get fired.
worst case ending up with a bad reputation in the long run, since sind companies do ask previous employers for feedback. sometimes without your “ok”.
I would not recommend sabotaging your work an future
Giving an interview to press, bloggers, podcasters and stating the facts and truth afterwards… or something in that line is likely more beneficial for everyone and yourself.
I you decide it’s time to leave - regardless of reasons - try a clean exit for your own good. If you have been mistreated at work, seek legal advice.

I am more confused with the upvote and down vote buttons on kbin: the upvote is actually favorite, the equivalent to reddits upvote is boost, the downvote seems not to have a real function besides counting the number.
TIL... I've been using the upvote the same as I did with reddit.
I've not been able to wrap my head around reputation points either. I've made several comments, a couple of posts, and my reputation has gone from 0 to -1 to +1 to 0 over the course of the week I've been here.
Recently, especially with feddit.de, there are a lot of posts in languages that are not English. This is great for adoption!, but unfortunately I have no idea what the posts are about because I don't speak German. I couldn't find a setting to hide posts in other languages either!...
Sometimes a post will say 0 comments, but if you click the rainbow fedilink, it'll take you to the post's original instance and there will be more comments.

I mean just superficially space is 0 atmospheres of pressure and sea level is 1. Compare that to the many hundreds of bars of pressure at the bottom of the ocean.
The distance is greater when exploring space but there's nothing there. No currents or waves or storms or sharks... Just nothingness.

avoided reddit search answer like the plague on Google
i'm hoping that the "privacy redirect" browser add-on OP linked to will help make that easier! then, if it works properly, you should be able to click reddit links with peace of mind knowing that you'll be taken to a different unaffiliated domain instead, giving spez and his corpo hogs 0 traffic
