All you really need is where the character is looking, their location and the terrain map, all of which are things the server has authority over or can check easily.
Distinguishing between a good player and a bot probably won’t be that hard. A simple aimbot would probably fire exactly at a target’s (0, 0) coordinate, while a good player may be a frame or two early or late. Someone with wallhacks will behave differently if they know someone is around a corner. There’s almost certainly going to be small “tricks” like that that an AI can pick up on.

bots are way more elaborate than that, even 20 years ago there were randomization patterns.
I think it’s due to lemmy.world defederating from some of the louder instances that I’ve seen way less content of that nature. Not 0 of it, but at least it’s not shouting over the top of every single post I see while browsing the All Communities list.
Don’t put yourself into an even more miserable situation when it doesn’t even benefit you in a measurable way.
E.g. Lights/dark rooms: Let’s say you use a 5W LED light bulb (which should be bright enough to decently light most rooms). If you leave that running 24/7 for a whole year, that is going to cost you ~13€/$ (0,3€/$/kWh). You are not going to keep it running 24/7, you are not even going to run it half the day. It is not worth 5 bucks to spend the whole year in darkness, no matter how little money you have.
Obviously turn off the light when you’re not in the room or it’s the middle of the day in summer, but be reasonable with yourself.
The same goes for food: Sure, buying cheap staples (in bulk if possible) is a great idea, but don’t try to save 5 cents if that means skipping on the salt, herbs and tomato paste which would take your 2/10 bland bowl of carbs to at least a 7/10 and give you something to look forward to.
I save a ton with my garden and chickens. If you got just a little land. I live in a small town but in the middle of it, but I got my yard used to its maximum potential. You would be surprised what you can fit if you do it right. You can go vertical if you need too. Where you save a so much money isn’t that “oh well, now I don’t have to buy a squash! I saved 3 dollars “ but if you let it dictate your meals it’s what you eat and then you spend 0 dollars on supper. I ate a lot of squash and bok Choy and rice and home baked bread this late summer and it was great every meal. Probably saved nearly $20,000 on groceries those two months. Give or take. (Don’t try squash if you don’t have the room. They are delicious but will straight up take over a given area with huge beautiful leaves and huge wonderful yellow flowers all summer)
A newly discovered trade-off in the way time-keeping devices operate on a fundamental level could set a hard limit on the performance of large-scale quantum computers, according to researchers from the Vienna University of Technology.
This is a really interesting point; I tried flipping it on its head and the reasoning became even more obvious:
My thought was: “surely we can take advantage of relativistic effects to keep time at a slower pace locally but have it take a short enough time in the referent timeframe.” But in this case, there is a very obvious floor we’re working with: absolute zero. Because making things go relatively faster means making the other things go comparatively slower, and 0 is as slow as you can go. If subatomic particles have no movement, there’s nothing to measure, literally.
As a result, there is a very specific bound on timekeeping measurements no matter how you try to finesse things, with the amount of energy required to make minor improvements ramping up exponentially as that floor is approached.
In order to get around this, we’d have to come up with a different way to do error correction and results measurement, and I’m not sure there is one.
Hello everyone…I’m getting these integrity and confit errors during startup. Nothing seems broken. Does anyone know a fix or should i just ignore? Thanks!
I was setting up the containers to fix a problem when using wine, but found a different solution. I checked the system status. 0 units failed and x.509 isn’t mentioned
I’d love to get into digital electronics and hardware hacking but I have no use for the skills in my life as of now, which means I have 0 motivation to pursue them
