The "Kids can't use Computers" thread posted yesterday hit home today as my stepson brought me his iPhone because it wouldn't charge, only to find out that his Chrome Book's CPU was running 73% loaded with only one application running (steam...no games). So far at approximately 10-15% scanned Microsoft Safety Scanner has already found 2 infected files on his HD.

Ugh...

We need neurologists and psychologists and and philosophers, even if we can talk to each other.

The idea that AI will make computer skills unnecessary is naive and dangerous. At some point someone somewhere needs to do something.

webghost0101,

Sure but the ratio of required neurologist and psychologist for a certain population is rather low, lower then IT specialist. The majority of people are fine socializing, memorizing without fully understanding the underlying mechanics. Its only when a complex problem arises that we need them.

I find there is a different between unnecessary and not required. For the most part, running and maintaining the day to day operations and code, humans wont be required, but in order to progress human society as a whole (a goal wich is not required but we will set regardless) we will find it necessary to have expert human overheersers. Aided by ai themselves we will really only need a few smart and dedicated people to help make a few rare decisions. The massas are free to do, play, learn or be blissful as they like

Provided with enough freedom to dedicate yourself to any possible education there will always be people who will be interested enough to become these experts. With personalized Ai teaching aids more people will also be able to become high level experts quicker. If not only because I myself have greatly own expertise because i recognize gpt4 as the forever patient and personal teacher i never had.

With ai polling and transparancy in who the experts are we can guarantee democratic trust.

If you haven’t already, Powertoys is a pretty useful tool. Some of the utilities I use a lot are Powertoys run, image resizer, color picker, and occasionally PowerRename. Paste as plain text and Text extractor are relatively new additions I probably would use more going forward.
And although it now also has Peek to preview files for the file explorer, I still prefer to use Quicklook for that.

Completely Automated, AI-Powered Newsletter: Top Headlines in Politics, Events, Technology, and Business

Hello Everyone!

I'm excited to announce my newest project - an entirely automated Top Headlines Newsletter, powered by GPT-4. Top news that is picked and written entirely by AI is delivered to your inbox every morning at 9 AM PST.

Our system is** fully automated**, taking care of everything from selecting topics to sending the newsletter. This means that if I were to die today, you would still receive a newsletter every morning.

Our newsletter is integrated with our site, and all stories use 2 left, 2 center, and 2 right wing sources (characterized by AllSidesMedia).

I truly think that AI can revolutionize how we consume news, from mitigating polarization, stopping misinformation spread, and minimizing bias. Please let me know your opinions below!

Automated machine generated misinformation spam? Sign me right up! /s

I truly think that AI can revolutionize how we consume news, from mitigating polarization, stopping misinformation spread, and minimizing bias. Please let me know your opinions below!

No. You’re just creating all new misinformation and muddying the waters.

From your bio:

Drawing equal amounts of information from left, right, and center sources in each story, we aim to counteract political bias and polarization.

You cannot average nonsense and fact and expect the end result to be anything useful. You simply cannot. Your entire premise is flawed and quite honestly, reprehensible.

LLMs and News should not be mixed. You’re making the world a worse place. Please stop.

neuraltimes,
@neuraltimes@kbin.social avatar

@ptz

Thanks for your feedback, to clarify a few things

You cannot average nonsense and fact and expect the end result to be anything useful.

We are not averaging information. We are cross referencing facts, stating what sources on different ends of the political spectrum agree on, and the differences in the opinions they have.

I would also like to here why you think it is misinformation spam.

Anyone know a good, hackable bluetooth mp3 player? Fitbit recently disabled transferring music to my Versa 1. Any cheap, preferably physically clippable, mp3 players? I guess storage being accessible over USB would be enough, but I'd love a device that is easily hackable to my hearts content.

peereboominc,

Can’t really give you a recommendations but a starting point could be the rockbox firmware. They have a list of mp3 players that they have been able to install their custom firmware on. www.rockbox.org/wiki/TargetStatusMaybe there is a player on that list that you like. Do note that the last update was in 2019 so the devices on that last are probably even older than 2019

DrYes,
@DrYes@kbin.social avatar

The dev builds are actually very recent but finding a cheap hardware is still not that easy. The forums are a great place to start, I guess.

Google raising price of YouTube Premium to $13.99 per month: The price of an individual YouTube Premium subscription is increasing by $2 to $13.99 per month in the US for new and current customers. https://9to5google.com/2023/07/19/youtube-premium-price-increase/

SCmSTR,

I pay for it. I paid for it a little while after yt red came out. Then bought a family plan because it was such a good deal and not having ads and paying to support my creators is worth it.

But it keeps going up and I want to cancel. But, I guess so many people decided to block ads on yt instead of doing what I did (yt’s logic, not sure if the sole or primary reason), that now there’s a million long af ads? It’s kind of like the health insurance cost increase feedback loop (uninsured gets hurt, gets treated, drives cost for paying customers up, less people get insurance, more people driving cost for paying customers up, repeat).

Paying the 7 bucks a month (84/y)for yt red back then was a barely acceptable deal. But NOW I’m paying close to 30 (360/y)now for a family plan and that’s just not okay (when I first started family plan, it was like 13.xx/m (156/y), and that was a great deal). Maybe I’ll buy a pi-hole and cancel, because this shit is ridiculous and I can’t afford it.

I’m not sure I would contract out a highly secure trading platform. You’re going to need constant updates, patches, fixes, and monitoring. This is the type of thing that requires development, dev ops, and security teams with 24/7 on call.

But, that’s what I expect from finance people trying to get into crypto scamming 10 years too late.
