New blog post comparing running therapy to antidepressants!

This isn't the first study to find equivalent outcomes. What's a bit more interesting is thinking about the adherence & sub populations who this is a viable alternative for.

TITLE: Iowa health system warns against using ChatGPT to draft patient
letters

Apparently some people have to be told that using AI services in the
cloud to compose medical letters is a violation of HIPAA.

Now what I would like to see with all the AI-assisted EHR systems
currently being developed (EPIC, Oracle, Amazon, etc.) is not only BAA
contracts in place with the tech companies, but also:

a) Separate AI systems that don't share data with the main AI system.
(So the Hospital AI database would be separate from the general AI
database), or

b) Much better: Separate AI software and databases that are held
internal to the Hospital's own computer servers with restricted Internet
access to the outside.

This is wholly feasible, yet somehow I have a low trust level of it
occurring.

For any private practice people out there playing with AI on a small
office scale, I'm not a lawyer, but what I would recommend are a) AI
systems that can be run on a desktop (not in the cloud), and b) cutting
them off from Internet or severe restrictions on where those desktops
can call out to since you likely don't know what's in the code of the AI
you downloaded!

"Dual Nationality in Japan: Learning to Love Ambiguity" - new upload to Humanities Commons, which has a Mastodon instance.

Dual nationality is in the news again in Japan, where parents of happy-go-lucky haafu kids don't want the light to shine (haafu has a mostly positive meaning). Deeply in Japanese culture, custom is stronger than law, and so is unspoken consensus. Nearly everyone benefits from dual nationality. Though it is against the law, no country wants to lose productive young citizens by forcing them to choose. The issue has been smoked out by cases of famous people. In the 2020 Olympics, haafu Sky Brown - raised in Japan - competed for the UK. Naomi Osaka renounced her American citizenship to compete for Japan. She illustrates the strain of having to choose between national allegiances or parts of one's multicultural identity.

New blog post on loneliness and time spent alone in daily life!

This provides insights into how loneliness and time spent alone change in relation to gender, age, and relationship status (single v partnered).

One finding: it's not about gender. It's about age and relationships.

We also found that the relationship between being alone and loneliness is different across the lifespan.
