Nawor3565, in Repurposing an Animus Heart

Assuming you’ve done a cursory Google search on modding these things and came up dry, I might start by physically opening up the case and seeing if there’s anything recognizable inside. With luck, there may just be a straight up Pi board in there, although it could also be a custom board with a compute module or something else entirely

MolochAlter,

Correct assumption yeah, the product is unfortunately not very widespread, so there isn’t much about it, let alone about jailbreaking it.

Physically opening and checking it sounds indeed like the next step, I was hoping to get a more definite answer from someone who was there before, but i guess that will have to be me.

netburnr, in Do UltraPro Z-WAve Switches have local control?
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

The way these work is it replaces an on/off switch with a relay. The buttons and the zwave both have connections to this relay to turn power on and off. Some even have the ability to do dimming, again both physical and over zwave. Hope that helps!

Lem453,

thanks! thats certainly useful. I’m just starting out. I’m sure everyone looks for the same thing (make sure the lights work even when the hub is down) so maybe it was too obvious to include in the description of the product.

Thanks for your help!

I personally have a ton of Enbrighten switchs and they have been rock solid.

variants, in A video doorbell with meaningful phone notifications?

I like my unifi doorbell but it recently died, I just ordered the POE new version so hope to get it installed this weekend and hope not having that old chime connected to it will keep it alive.

When someone rings the door bell I get a phone call from my doorbell so I can see who is there or just look at the notifications if there’s is movement in areas I choose or the AI detection if it detects a person in the yard.

I’m not sure if you can use the doorbell on its own, you’d need the app at least to set it up and either the dream machine or maybe host the unifi is on a machine yourself but at least it’s all self hosted

Vinny_93, in A video doorbell with meaningful phone notifications?

I’ve got the Arlo Essential, it’s also a privacy nightmare but it ‘calls’ you and your wife on your phone, as well as making a noise itself. It’s possible to make a smart speaker say something (even though you don’t want that) and you can use the ringing of the doorbell as a trigger for all sorts of home automation (like changing the colour of a light bulb or have a dedicated indication light or something that blinks).

thorbot, in A video doorbell with meaningful phone notifications?

Google Nest is a privacy nightmare, Ring is even worse. Amazon employees will just randomly access your video feeds, in fact there is a lawsuit about it right now. My go to is Ubiquity UniFi doorbell. It stores the video data locally on a device in my network, and there’s no remote access for them to get into it. It sends alerts to my phone which can be answered like a phone call. The only annoyance I have with it is that it still doesn’t have a time-based “snooze” function to disable notifications for a set time, so when someone is mucking around in the front yard for a few hours I just toggle off notifications so it doesn’t blow up my phone. Caveat with this system is you do need an additional Unifi device in your network to store the footage, but it does not have a monthly fee which is super nice.

LaserdiscTurtle,

Sounds interesting; I’ll look into it. When you say we would “need an additional Unifi device in your network” do you mean something like the box that comes with Eufy, or something more complex. I emphasise that our “network” currently is a handful of smart bulbs and our phones; we are not looking to get into a full smart home setup.

thorbot,

You need some device to store the footage the camera generates. A Cloud Key would suffice, I currently have a Dream Machine which is a firewall and NVR all in one.

dbrand666, in Non-cloud wifi remote speaker/mic device

Since you’re already running Hass why not set up Media Assistant. Connect your speakers to a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer.

I have a few around the house and they work great.

Media Assistant is still a work in progress. If that’s a problem for you you can use Logitech Media Server instead, which is what I was using until recently.

Player2, in Non-cloud wifi remote speaker/mic device

I’m not an expert in this stuff but maybe a regular speaker and something like a Raspberry pi? Then just stream from Jellyfin.

JustEnoughDucks, in Smart Locks on Security Door

Smart lock on the security door would allow you to carry only 1 key if you have a keypad lock. Though with a gate door like that, you would need it to be 2 sided which I don’t not know of any.

Though if you had a keyless smart lock on the outside, a potential thief would have to have both lockpicking/crowbar entry + digital entry capabilities which may reduce risk, but probably not much.

From a practical perspective those doors are worse than useless because they cost money and offer little to no benefit. If you need a key to get out from the inside, it js a fire hazard, if you don’t, you might as well not have it (the case at businesses that have it because they must follow fire regulations more strictly).

phx,

Yeah, I don’t like the idea of a key-only lock for any door that would be considered a fire route.

I’d much rather go for a smart-deadbolt which also has a key option (in case of dead battery) on the inner door, and leave the outer/gate door unlocked when i.e. you’re only gone for a shorter time or if you’ve a rental which you need to provide code/keyless entry to.

Alfred Z-Wave locks play fairly nicely with HASS in terms of lock/unlock and battery monitoring, though I don’t believe your can set codes that way. That do have a wireless gateway but it’s flakey and uses services hosted in AliCloud.

Replying for documentation purposes. I found this video, which when combined with Tasmota documentation was enough to figure this out. Hope this helps anyone else trying this in the future.

Run a supervised install of HomeAssistant, which does support plugins?

HumanPerson, (edited )

I looked at that but their site warned that it would be pretty hands-on.

Edit: I realized that I should clarify after typing this, my problem is with hands-on maintenance not setup.

Bluesheep, in Hass templating compound logical operators

I suspect this is a rendering/process thing rather than an accuracy thing. Have you tested if the logic of the first one isn’t listening to the other fields?

Thinking it through, in an ‘and’ test, you do only have to watch for the the state of the first clause, because so long as that is false, it doesn’t matter what the rest say. In the ‘or’ clause, you need to watch for the value of all of them.

lemming741,

I’ll play around with that too, but I just figured out i can make the entities appear and disappear if I change ‘false’ to ‘off’. I wish their forum wasn’t a “read our shitty docs” auto-reply.

lemming741,

oh wait, maybe changing it to false instead of off halts the processing. I think you’re right.
