ThePac, in How the heck did we get here? Most best selling "cars" are now superzied pickups and SUVs.

It’s an arms race to not die in a car crash.

Parking garages are not always that safe…

Save space, even.

Potatos_are_not_friends, in How the heck did we get here? Most best selling "cars" are now superzied pickups and SUVs.

People who are buying cars aren’t the same as people who want cars.

The cars we want are so freaking expensive. And many buy used.

Where new car buyers just want that latest things.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I couldn’t agree more. New car buyers want status, flash, specs, etc.

Anyone practical will just buy something 3-5 years old with a solid maintenance history and no MIL on.

betwixthewires, in I cannot agree with you on Cars, but Trucks? Yes.

I don’t really agree, cars are for moving people around. People can move themselves around. Trucks are for moving things, they’re tools. I have a truck, I need it. Not all the time, but enough of the time that I have one. It doesn’t make sense for me to have 2 cars so I just drive it. Although I do agree they’re getting too fucking big. I’ve got an older heavy duty pickup truck and the thing is the size of a new “small” pickup, it’s a bit absurd.

Cataphract,

I think people are just confused on how that would actually work, it’s like boomers staring at a roundabout thinking it’s making traffic worse. People are so used to congested streets with cars that looking at the example probably gives them anxiety thinking about navigating it.

saw a comment a couple days ago – “You are not stuck in traffic. You ARE traffic.”

yA3xAKQMbq, (edited ) in [discussion] Bus commuters of Lemmy, do you use bars or handles?

Now look, I’m not a bus commuter, but I’ve been riding buses all over Europe and beyond, and I immediately just hold onto anything that’s in reach.

As a matter of fact, as long as there’s not a visibly old/pregnant/disabled/etc person around, I’ll make sure getting a seat no matter what and something to hold onto.

At this point I’m quite certain there’s a secret society of bus drivers with chapters all over the world, and their motto is “drive like there’s no tomorrow” and they all have “NO FUTURE” tattoed in huge black capital letters on their chests.

Rentlar,

“Sorry ma’am, I’ll just need to hold onto your purse here for stability.”

  • Rentlar,

Vertical bars are really best of both worlds (easy to hold height and rigid), with the added bonus of being able to lean against them.

Rentlar, in [discussion] Bus commuters of Lemmy, do you use bars or handles?

Just an informal poll for commuters to shake up the community feel a bit… sparked this morning being on a crowded bus. On my bus, it was about 4 people holding bars per person holding a loop.

Boomkop3, in [blog] Stay alive and enjoy the ride: Imposing 20mph speed limits to protect lives – time for furious drivers to embrace reality

This is great, and with electric vehicles being more and more common it should be super easy to drive slow

elrik, in A Mother And Daughter Got Trapped In A Rental Tesla After It Ran Out Of Charge

We need more EV charging infrastructure and Hertz should have provided better guidance about charging since the car was already somewhat low.

Potatos_are_not_friends, in How cars ruin wild animals’ lives

There were 6-12 wild turkeys in my neighborhood. Once in a while, a driver would kill them. It was always a sad moment when you notice there’s some missing.

During the pandemic, there was over 30. Nature was healing.

Unfortunately I moved before knowing if their fate has changed.

    Nioxic, in this is all

This assumes all of them live right next to each other though

    Bolt,

Is the idea of 68 people living within a few blocks of a bus line hard to believe? You know they don’t all get on on from the same stop, right?

    LambdaDuck,

they only need to live within walking distance from any bus stop along the line. the difference averages out to something around that ballpark

    red, in this is all

if you don’t think 68 people trying to drive 68 cars on the same route is going to cause congestion on the roads, and thus “halting”, where do you think traffic jams come from?
