lilShalom, in What kind of asshole is buying this shit (2023 Wagoneer by Jeep).

People who have children and boats.

malloc,

People that say this probably use the vehicle maybe once or twice a year for that purpose. Otherwise it’s an overpriced grocery store and commuting vehicle. Lol.

Also this looks like a pretty shifty vehicle to tow a boat.

Also, this shit carries 8 people. You telling me every family has at least 6 children? Such bullshit m8. Data indicates otherwise at ~3-4 people in a family since the 1960s. [1]

  1. statista.com/…/average-size-of-a-family-in-the-us…
TheMusicalFruit,

I got rid of my gas guzzler (Ford Expedition) the end of last year for this reason. I hated driving it daily to have the ability to tow our camper a few times a year. I sold them both and got a used Mitsubishi Lancer, it’s fun to drive and gets 33 mpg. Oh and it fits a family of 4, no problem. If you regularly need 3 rows and the same cargo space as a tool shed, you need to reevaluate. Lol

HelloHotel,
@HelloHotel@lemmy.world avatar

depending on the camper, you could probably tow a small one (if not verry well) on a ford escort.

lilShalom,

The jeep probably doesnt sell well because their reliability is terrible. But people will spend their money on what they want. When you become the next facist leader in america you can ban them.

HelloHotel,
@HelloHotel@lemmy.world avatar

why is banning a car facist? its mabe a shitty thing to do depending on what you beleave and potentially authoritarian but to be fascist requires verry specific things.

lilShalom,

Have you considered becoming amish? They use horse and buggy, right?

blazera,
@blazera@kbin.social avatar

god I hope its not people that have so much contempt for their children they wanna ensure their future is a fiery hellscape

metaStatic,

I mean it's going to be that anyway so ....

Self fulfilling prophecy

TheDoctorDonna,

People who have children should be worried about these monstrosities. I am a full grown adult and could walk in front of large vehicles completely unnoticed, what chances do kids have unless they too are in one of the giant things. Then everyone is driving them through a desert hellscape after we’ve killed every other living thing by driving them.

FlashMobOfOne, in Fort Wayne police sergeant fined $35.50 for fatally striking pedestrian in crosswalk
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

“Fatally striking”

The AP is usually pretty neutral, but that language is way, way too euphemistic here. The real work is murdering. The cop murdered this person.

hydrospanner,

False.

Murder is defined in Indiana as either the intentional killing of another person without justification, or causing the death of someone while committing or attempting to commit a violent felony, regardless of intent to kill (the felony murder rule).

Definitions matter.

I’m not arguing the horrible nature of the event or careless disregard on the account of the perpetrator, but incorrect statements like this are how we’ve ended up in a situation where people throw around terms like “fascist” and “communist” for anything they don’t like, and as a result, many people have no idea what those words actually mean.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I couldn’t care less about the legal definition.

This cop had a history of pulling shit like this. He’s a murderer, and people being willing to make excuses for it and treating the police as some sort of civic religion is how we got here.

SamboT,

And this is why mob rule isn’t the way to run a society lmao.

uriel238,
@uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Manslaughter is the typical term, a subset of homicide. Murder is hyperbolic without established motive, say, being in an Agatha Christie cozy.

SpeedLimit55, in 482 foot acceleration lane for a road with a… 25mph speed limit

My office is off a road like this except no bike lanes. It’s a mile and a half of commercial 4 lane road followed by 2 lane residential and the speed limit is 25 on the whole thing. Everyone goes 40+ in the commercial section which at least has a grass median and sidewalks on both sides. People bike on the sidewalks even though its against city ordinances because they like to stay alive. The residential section has a stop sign every 500 feet.

MrMobius, in What are the benefits of not owning a car?

Well, first and foremost, I guess the main benefit is saving a lot of money. If you use your car everyday to go to work and go shopping it can cost thousands of dollars where I live. Between the fuel, insurance, parking fees, mandatory yearly checkup (with possible repairs which are even more costly), the bill climbs pretty fast!

And it can be such a pain to drive a car in the city. Traffic jams, Red lights every 2 minutes (we all get that unlucky day), finding a free parking spot, waiting at gas station when there’s a penury (they are bound to happen!).

Using a bike or simply walking is comparatively hugely cheaper obviously, but also quite less frustrating in urban areas at least.

elouboub, in What are the benefits of not owning a car?
@elouboub@kbin.social avatar

No need to concentrate when traveling. Public transport is nearly "brain off" time while I get whisked away to another place. Sure, it could be better and faster, but at least I don't have to pay a higher subscription to let my vehicle stand outside for 99% of its life.

5714,

(Do not) Try reading a book while driving vs reading a book while using public transport showcases that a lot.

nnjethro,

It’s going to be an audiobook for me in either situation. ;)

Can do too, Germany, the nicer part of the city here. Left my car with open windows in the summer, with my stuff in it, over night, nothing. Wouldn’t do it in the northern city though. My seats would’ve been gone.

opp,

Reminds me of when my friend moved to Las Vegas, the shitty side of town, not the strip. And on the first day he had every wheel stolen off of his car when he stepped in a store for a couple of minutes.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Is your friend Clark W. Griswold?

opp,

No lol, did the same thing happen to him

RealJoL,

I’ll raise that by the time I left my car window open for 4 days in a semi big German town. After police couldn’t get ahold of me, a neighbour covered it himself with plastic so the inside wouldn’t get wet.

Desistance, in The dream 🚲

Holy shit, a 15k bike?! It better be electric.

CeruleanRuin, in [discussion] Who thought this was a good idea?

Doesn’t look any stupider than all the supercabs out there, kept spotless and without a scratch on their beds by shrivel-dicked truckbros who wear ball caps and wraparound sunglasses regardless of the time or weather.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Yes they all look and are functionally silly.

Perhapsjustsniffit, in [discussion] Who thought this was a good idea?

All the old guys here are salivating for these and buying them up so fast. It’s fucked. You’re 70. You drive 20kms an hour under the speed limit and can’t lift over 10lbs. What the fuck do you need this ugly thing for?

spacesatan, (edited ) in Should loud cars be banned?

I moved to an apartment adjacent to an intersection on a medium-high traffic stroad and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I have never been so stressed. I can barely even enjoy music now because half the time if I hear low bass in a song I think its coming from outside and I get annoyed for a few seconds.

You just answered your own question there dude

baseless_discourse, (edited )

Is it because they are expensive? So this is the same psychology as rich college kids buying race cars in congested cities?

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. Tons of people buy giant obnoxious overpriced pickup trucks as status symbols.

M0oP0o,

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

They’re not buying it for the looks… The more useless it looks the more it becomes a fancy way to announce that you’re rich.

Some people actually think anyone else cares about this dumb shit.

M0oP0o,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

I am not just bitching about the looks (they are silly but that is subjective). My issue is that this is what now passes for a “reasonable” small truck.
