How many Lemmy users are non-technical background?

I think most all of us here on Lemmy are people with technical background. Most of my professional contacts remained using Reddit, Twitter and even excited when Threads launched.

If you are non-tech background, please comment and share what you do for life.

If you have tech background, upvote this to help promote this post so that we can find more non-tech users on Lemmy.

jezus_christus,

Psychiatric nurse here.

Fuckinwelder,

No tech background. I try to get by with online tutorials mostly.

I repair heavy equipment in the mining industry, as a welder.

Zetaphor,

Username checks out

Spook,

I’m a carpenter apprentice and a refugee from RIF.

Calvinball,

I majored in English, now I make artisanal pizzas.

And now I have to see a photo.

And now I also want some of that artisanal pizza

Bkr1221,

I do not have a tech background. I am a baker in my mid 30’s. I became sick of reddits shit, and once RIF was gone I was done.

I really like Lemmy, even though I admit it is a bit confusing at times, but I’ve gotten the jist of it I think.

chairman,

Very technical. Technically, I build chairs!!

gaydarless,

My background is librarianship, but because I now work as a technical writer, I’m in close proximity to developers and I’m often looking at code and specs and such. I’m good at asking questions, which is what my job is really about. I’d say I know slightly more than the average joe on the street, but a lot less than anyone who’s actually got a technical background and skillset.

Ultra980,

I’m a minor, so I can’t have a job in tech, but I am really tech-savvy (I use NixOS and like to tweak every system I have)

techconsulnerd,

Now that you mentioned it, I wonder how many kids are using Lemmy. What attracted you to be here?

Ultra980,

Well, I used to use reddit, but you know what happened with it… So I switched to lemmy.

The first account I made was [email protected] (and same username on lemmy.one as a backup), but then I switched to kbin. Now, after kbin is glitching out more than ever, I switched back to lemmy, but now on .world.

I’ll also set up my own instance at some point, NixOS makes it possible with just a few lines in my config.

retrieval4558,

I’m in medicine. My level of computer literacy is that I’ve built several computers, and fuck around with easy versions of Linux for fun

ieightpi,

Im a biologist working in research. Ive always been a hobbyist with computers and videos games. But I never went into tech because I didn’t want to make my hobby a full time job.

Love Lemmy and can’t wait for it to be number one

MuffinHeeler,

I’m a mom that works part time in accounts. Definitely not IT technical.

Here because Apollo and RIF have gone and I saw reddit posts directing me here. Might leave because 50% of the posts here are “reddit is shit” and I’m just not that interested in that circle jerk.

Try sorting by new, it might have been a little shitty on Reddit due to the sheer volume of posts, but here it’s actually nice and IMO much better than sorting by hot.

muhyb,

I think that’s a phase and it will pass. The sorrow is fresh. I’d recommend find yourself some interesting communities and browse the subscribed tab instead of all.

BlueFairyPainter,

I think that’s just because that’s still a hot topic for many of us here. It’ll die down and then hopefully, we’ll form our own communities and do our own thing here at some point, not just lament old reddit. At least that’s why I’m still here and waiting :D

Artemis,

I don’t have a tech background, currently doing museum security, that’s all. Super enjoyable work. This community is nice, I only lurked in reddit.

krzschlss,
@krzschlss@lemmy.world avatar

Trust me, with all the bots and paid shills on reddit, we all were and I guess still are just lurkers.

Artemis,
@Artemis@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Gotta admit I commented more in a few days here, than I ever did in years of reddit, but yeah mostly lurking.

AlaskaMan,

Gotta be a little stressful when rambunctious kids are near fragile exhibits. 😝

Artemis,
@Artemis@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

It’s ok, kids actually behave better than some adults. 🎩

AlaskaMan,

Ain’t that the truth (I’m a former cop).

Artemis,
@Artemis@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Former but I’m sure always one at heart. 🎩 Museum security is probably one of the best places I ever got on my job, before I did port security… Dealing with very drunk sailors, really entitled tourists, and praying to lord that shit wouldn’t hit the fan on my shift. 😖 Still beats train stations by far. I seriously love my job rn. It’s slow when there are no schools, I get to actually learn a lot on the job (because tours) and polish my English while getting paid. 😉 Anyway have my utmost best regards. 🎩

MadBabs,

I’m a massage therapist just blundering my way through this space…

OneWomanCreamTeam,

Just a regular 'ol retail worker. I’m so glad Lemmy was here to save my lunch breaks from reddit.

iamdisillusioned,

Legal field for me, but I’ll be honest. I was planning on quitting Reddit cold turkey and doing something else with my free time but my software project manager husband kept talking about Lemmy, so here I am.
