What games do you think would be great if they'd get properly remastered and would be a hit if it was done?

I believe this will mostly affects games which were lacking in technology.

I’d personally LOVE to see The Sims 1 or The Sims 2 re-released with performance and resolution upgrades, and, most importantly, made to be open world. Since they’re older, I believe they could very easily render the entire map like The Sims 3, but with the charm of TS1 or TS2.

I cannot think of other games, since most games I see as adequate, whereas TS1 and TS2 were bound by system performance during their respective times.

  • Sly Cooper trilogy: Although it was made in the 2000s, I like Sly Cooper because it gave me a curiosity for other cultures and isn’t just set in America. Also, the soundtrack is GOATed.
troglodytis,

Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Bring real rage quitting to the new generation.

Contra. God damn, that’s just good times and shooting shit.

Kazumara,

Empire Earth! I don’t think it was lacking for its time, but a remaster akin to Age of Empires Definitive Edition would still help a lot.

kaput,

Morrowind. Rpg that doesn’t hold your hand through quest, well written plot and sidequests and a superb fantastic setting that is not all medieval Europe. Ashland, siltstriders, giant mushroom mage tower that can only be accessed by super jump or flying. And thosefucking annoying cliff 'bird thing.

DagothUr,

Nerevar, you foolish one, approach. A character on the internet proclaims that our world must endure another cycle of annihilation and rebirth to find goodness. Can you fathom such grand and intoxicating innocence, Nerevar?

You there, sir! Be aware that I, Dagoth Ur, have witnessed 3743 years of existence, and I did not dedicate my millennia to be insulted by a creature not yet a century old. Depart from my lands and the ungrateful tribes, and let them remain untouched by your misguided notions.

Jtskywalker,

Probably my favorite RPG - Such a rich environment and a totally unnecessary amount of lore and background information in all of the included books and dialogue. Really set me up to be severely unfulfilled by everything else Bethesda made after that point.

geoma,

I understand there is an open engine for morrowind with better graphics called OpenMW. Look for it here: osgameclones.com

Cliff racers will forever haunt my dreams.

I’d hope they’d rework/simplify the leveling attribute system though. I always end up modding that.

mindbleach,

Deus Ex. It’s beloved and influential. It’s also ugly as hell and kinda jank. Stitch together all the levels that had loading screens. Leave combat awkward, make conversations fancier. Keep the deadpan protagonist as a flat player-insert avatar. Keep tracked music, but give the composer a pile of money and enough tools to allow conditional variations. Human Revolution proved the formula still worked, and Mankind Divided proved it’s still impossible to do a good sequel to that formula.

Midwinter is one of the first true-3D open-world games, and it shows. You’re trying to escape an island and maybe start a revolution on the way out. The title reflects the mildly post-apocalyptic setting, where nuclear winter has upended civilization, and this little snow-covered dictatorship is actually doing okay by some standards. The gameplay would have to borrow from Death Stranding’s focus on traversing terrain. Albeit largely on skis. It’s not a fuck-around simulator like Just Cause, or a shoot-em-up like Far Cry, and it’s not really a survival game in the sense of keeping gauges filled. (You do get to hang-glide - but it’s a great way to die suddenly.) It’s more of a wargame played from ground level. And between that, and being from 1990, the interface is completely terrible.

  • Oni
  • Attack Of The Saucerman
  • Urban Chaos (the older one, not sure about the new one)
  • Half of the legit stuff Sseth reviewed.
axont,

Oni would be great, problem is the rights to it are split between like five different studios and it’s effectively abandoned. It’s why it’s not on GOG, Steam, etc.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if the source code has been completely lost, meaning there’s no chance of an HD upscale or anything.

Possibly the same situation for Attack of the Saucerman. Dayum.

Oh well, realistically, an upscale and a few improvements wouldn’t have cut it anyway.

float,

Not a remake but I think another addon for Diablo 2 would still be awesome.

Fully-raytraced Pac-Man

TrousersMcPants,

You joke, but they did have that Pacman Championship game a few years back that was basically just a flashy pacman reboot

A Bewitching Revolution.

You play as a witch who explores a city, helping homeless people get housed, planting fruit trees, clearing anti-bird architecture, starting union drives and prison riots…

The game is free and you can finish it in an hour.

colestia.itch.io/a-bewitching-revolution

A Bewitching Revolution is a first-person adventure game about a communist witch living in a cyberpunk city. Use magic to help the city’s residents build collective forms of power and resistance!

Inspired by the work of Silvia Federici, A Bewitching Revolution tells an optimistic story about people transforming their gloomy capitalist present into a bright revolutionary future. It is designed to be played in a single sitting, roughly one hour long.

Star Wars Republic Commando.

The best Star Wars game that’s ever come out, by a wide margin. And it just completely flew under the radar.

I also need them to get on the sequel please.

xX_fnord_Xx,

I’m still waiting on a gritty grimdark 3d remake of Burger Time.

Driver san Francisco by ubisoft is the first that comes to my mind. It has an fantastic story and gameplay mechanics. The multiplayer is also fun. Midnight club 3. Just saying we need it.

Oni by Bungie West, now stuck between an IP mess between Bungie, Rockstar and Take-Two. This game was the basis for Halo and GTA’s open world, and greater than Tomb Raider if it never got stuck in that IP mess.

FFFFUUUUUCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Also, NFS Most Wanted, Carbon and Underground 1/2. No, I do not count that Criterion Games’ horrific MW remake, it was the horror no true NFS diehard will mention. Proper remakes with no DLCs, microtransactions and bullshit RTX3060 tier hardware requirements.

Historical lesson for kids about another unfortunate banger – Rock N’ Roll Racing (SNES) that was made by what you know today as Blizzard, never got a remake, and the only remake that exists is made by a bunch of passionate Russians called Motor Rock. Blizzard actively prevented this game from going on Steam, and is only playable on PC via piracy. The remake is a banger as well.

fosforus, (edited )

(Sid Meier’s) Alpha Centauri.

Please don’t go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

For it to work for me, it would have to be pretty much a 1:1 remake with just improved compatibility and possibly assets. Not sure what would need to happen for it to work for people who never played the original.

Teodomo, (edited )

I’m playing Stellaris right now and one of the things I miss the most about Sid Meier 's games is it being 100% turn-based vs real time with pause (over long sessions it tires my hand a lot for some reason)
