I left Twitter in the beginning of the Nazi Elon Musk buying it. That whole site is toxic bullshit by design. I was only there for the sports anyway.

I left The Site Formerly Known as Twitter a while back, but you have to consider that not everyone on there is using the site as a source of world news. There might be individual people (e.g., artists) who you follow but only regularly post on The Site Formerly Known as Twitter. You might be one of those people, and The Site Formerly Known as Twitter might be the only way to grow and/or maintain your audience. Of course, I'd rather people leave for other platforms, but since many are on The Site Formerly Known as Twitter to follow individual people, as long as those people don't move, they themselves won't move.

It's the same thing as with the Reddit protests. Sure, people say they'd love to leave, but they're only going to actually do it if the communities they use also leave. A lot of people just aren't willing to suffer temporary inconvenience to eventually get something better. They'll talk about how they hate what X is doing, but at the end of the day, they don't care quite enough to use the less convenient Y.

@CharlesReed@kbin.social avatar

Essentially all this. I still have a Twitter account, but I only use it whenever a couple artists I follow post something because that's the only place they put updates. I would love for them to move platforms so I can be rid of it once and for all, but I guess since a lot of their fanbase is there, that's where they're staying for now. Otherwise I avoid anything trending or news related, because it's such a cesspool.

I'm using it a lot less.

Movies I don't like but haven't seen before. It lets my mind wander.

Arotrios,
@Arotrios@kbin.social avatar

Nice - I do this with the original MST3K episodes - the combo of bad movie, absurdity, and robot commentary hits that sweet spot where I can ignore the film, but still be sparked by the dialogue.

Getting high and playing games.

Getting high and listening to music.

Getting high and watching movies.

Hmm… maybe it’s just the getting high part? 🤔

Arotrios,
@Arotrios@kbin.social avatar

What games? What music? What movies?

What drugs? And where can I get some?

glittalogik, (edited ) in What's something that you're grateful for?
@glittalogik@kbin.social avatar

I'm super grateful right now that my shoulder mobility is returning after a nasty fall at the bouldering gym last night. Still aches like a mofo and probably will for a week or two, but at least I can wipe my own ass :)

I'm in read only mode, only to follow a couple of celebrities and otherwise watch the dumpster fire.

e0qdk, in How often do you read fiction and how do you manage to do it?
@e0qdk@kbin.social avatar

I have a Kindle with a backlight that I keep by my bed and I typically read at least a few pages when I try to go to sleep. Most of the content I have is free out-of-copyright books from Project Gutenberg supplemented with more modern commercial ebooks once in a while. I've been reading really old children's fiction lately (e.g. Anne of Green Gables most recently) since that's usually intelligible enough even with some differences in English since it was written (or in some cases non-US dialect differences) and tends not to be so stimulating that it keeps me awake.

andyburke, in What can I do with my kbin logon besides veiw kbin and lemmy?
@andyburke@kbin.social avatar

I'm not an expert, but I think kbin could implement UI to allow you to view events (things) from those other instances.

I assume right now kbin is only looking at a handful of the types of stuff that can be shared in the fediverse.

At least, that's my layman's understanding right now.

@russjr08@outpost.zeuslink.net avatar

Generally with most Fediverse applications, the idea is that since they all “speak” ActivityPub, that you’re supposed to be able to subscribe to content from other applications from your account/instance. In practice the results may vary (I haven’t used Kbin so I don’t know what it does and doesn’t support), but your Kbin login will only work on kbin.social, since logins themselves aren’t federated.

You can also interact with Mastodon.

guyrocket,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

Great. How?

Nemo,

IIRC (I don’t use Mastodon), Mastodon accounts act like lemmy munis, so you find an account you want to follow and subscribe. Also search by hashtag, apparently?

ThatOneKirbyMain2568, (edited ) in What can I do with my kbin logon besides veiw kbin and lemmy?
@ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social avatar

You can interact with Mastodon (a microblogging site like Twitter) via the microblog tab. By going to the All page and then clicking Microblog, you'll see everything that Mastodon sites share with kbin.social (and vice versa).

Individual Kbin magazines work a bit differently. A magazine's microblog tab only contains:

  • what people on Kbin post to that magazine's microblog tab
  • any microblogs (e.g., Mastodon posts) that have certain tags

Each magazine can set which tags its microblog tab will collect. For example, @pixelart has microblogs with the tag. This is nice if you only want microblogs on a specific topic, but if you want to browse everything that Mastodon shares with Kbin, you'll need to use the All page (and make sure that you have federation turned on).

EDIT: Reworded to be a bit clearer

I would say any public-facing government job. Dealing with the public's varying and sometimes unrealistic expectations, changing leadership and direction, and even government employee-hating coworkers can leave one rather jaded.
