To those genuinely interested in moderating (kbin.social)

@Ernest has pushed an update which allows users to request ownership/moderation of abandoned magazines. Ghost/abandoned magazines were fairly prevalent after the initial wave of hype due to users either squatting magazine names or becoming inactive for other reasons. Now is your chance to get involved, if you were waiting to do...

How does it work when you ask to moderate a federated magazine?

@MeccAnon@kbin.social avatar

No worries, thanks anyway!

Right? I remember watching some time ago a AI-generated video of an actress - I think it was Kirsten Stewart - doing a monologue. It was eerily undistinguishable from reality. This is happening, and actors have all the rights to be upset by it until proper compensation rules are in place.

I'm in read only mode, only to follow a couple of celebrities and otherwise watch the dumpster fire.

Now that some time has passed, what do you like and dislike about kbin? (kbin.social)

I like that kbin is smaller compared to some lemmy instances. I also prefer the UI. Bigger communities tend to feel a bit overwhelming for me. I also appreciate how transparent Ernest has been regarding kbin's development. That said, it's been a bit challenging to figure out how to utilize some of the federation features that...

Among all Fediverse softwares, Kbin is the one I like the most - from the clean interface to the local community, which I really like - just the right balance between serious topics and memes, and decent comment quality.

Even if I'm most active on some federated communities, I don't plan to switch anytime soon.

The only headscratcher that - more than "not like", just puzzled me a bit - is the different naming convention (magazines, microblogs, etc.), but again it's a small thing.

What questions do you hate being asked and why? (kbin.social)

I hate it when people on social media, dare ask questions when you know they're fishing for personal information/ammo on people to exploit. Like asking for people's dark secrets. Why do you want to know? Is there a fetish to this? Nobody is going to be dead serious, they're just going to give softball answers and why should they...

I feel you. I hate that question. I'm over 50, don't have kids and the reasons are only mine. And my wife's.

Not considering vaporware or failed products (e.g. Eolo car):

  • The Esperanto language. (Yes, I'm old)
  • NFTs.
  • Blockchain. Yes, it has its use, but it's not the pervasive, all-use game changer it was claimed to be.
  • Sony Betamax. Pity because it was better than VHS.
  • New Coke. Nuff said.

What if hate speech is coming from the owner of a magazine?

Right now there's no other way than contacting the admins, I'm afraid.

don't google "1man1jar".

MeccAnon,
@MeccAnon@kbin.social avatar

Yes, nobody subscribed to it because as @Armaell says, you can't subscribe to a magazine that hasn't been federated yet.

I also hope we will see the current content here! (It's in Italian though :D)

@MeccAnon@kbin.social avatar

Fantastic, thanks! Probably that's why it was never picked up - I was always searching either using @feddit.it or [email protected] but never using the first @ symbol.

Gary Barlow.

Talented but obnoxious, arrogant boy band leader bombed his initial solo career, ridiculed by Robbie Williams’, reaches rock bottom, eats a ton of humble pie,comes back as professional man band leader, solo artist and dad.

In Italy we have now compassion fatigue. It is just so overwhelming that we've become desensitized. Thousands of lives are saved, and lost, year on year, and nothing ever changes. The migrant plight has become both a business and a political stance to take advantage of on all sides.

Aside of those poor souls, there are no good guys in this fucked up mess. Do not be surprised, also, if the Titan wreck makes the news and the loss of 1000+ people in the space of a summer doesn't.

Because news are not subsidised anymore and need to run on money, views and paper sales.

A wreck on an iconic wreck site generates views.

The n-th migrant shipwreck does not generate views anymore (compassion fatigue, remember) unless you stick to it the picture of a dead child's body washed ashore.

It's cynical, and I hate it, but it's how it is.

Kbin all the way, also as de-federated community. That said, now that I'm getting the gist of selecting the instances and magazines I want, enjoying the federated content has also become easier.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but karma/reputation points. It only encourages hivemind and echo chambers. I'm ok with thread-specific points so that content can be ranked, but that's it.

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread but here goes.

Issue:
Threads do not seem to federate properly.

Description:
Until a month ago or so, submitting a thread to a federated instance (tested on: feddit.it, sh.itjust.works) threw an error page, but the thread was regularly posted. Example: https://feddit.it/post/1868675

As of at least 2 weeks ago, the error page remains but threads do not federate anymore. Example:
https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/546143/Analisi-di-Pezzi-Pop-5-Faith-Hill-The-Way-You

If it can be of help, posts, links and comments seem properly federated to the same abovementioned instances, i.e. appear on target instances within a few seconds. No error displayed when submitting.

Hope this can be addressed sooner or later. Right now I'm using local accounts on those instances to work this around.
