He doesn’t say that. He said “improving working conditions for slaves is not an argument for slavery”.
He then goes on to say that 19th century slave-owners argued that slavery is good, because “slaves were better treated than wage laborers”. Which is an equally ridiculous argument in favor of slavery.
The idea that slaves had it better than workers is and always has been blatantly false, as evidenced by the many black people fleeing slavery in the south to be workers in the north and the non-existent line of northern workers attempting to become enslaved in the south.
Ok but wayne brady chose it as the platform, it’s the original source. It makes sense to share it. I say this as someone who also doesn’t use tiktok. If it bothers you that much then go read an article or the text from it which is actually here on this very post right below the link. You have a dozen options that don’t require you to chest pound about how great you are for hating tiktok.
It’s not about calm, I can be calm and be a dick. It’s about being nice. I mod flagged the reply because the user is not from around here and may not have bothered to read our single rule, which is to be nice. This reminder applies to you as well now. Be nice around here.
Honestly I’m far more concerned about how intense your response has been. The text is right below the link here on this post. No one grabbed you by the throat and forced you to open tiktok. Clearly tiktok lives rent free in your head for several hours a day if this post warranted such a strong reaction, despite the fact that you don’t even use it.
I don’t like twitter. I don’t seethe anytime someone posts a link from it.
Anyway I’m happy for him. It’s good to see he feels safe coming out.
Cool, it’s nice when older people come out because it’s a sign that times are changing for the better, despite the right trying to shove everyone back in the closet.
I just feel bad that people go through so much of their life suppressing an important part of themselves, it really is a kind of deeply personal theft committed against them by the people in their life who kept them pushed in the closet through explicit or implicit bigotry. Such a waste of life that could be lived happier.
I was introduced to Wayne Brady through Chappelle’s Show :) I like his coming out, and the thoughtful message he gave. As a wealthy, middle-aged Black celebrity and comic, I think he may be quite influential in opening others’ minds and hearts. Also, I’m glad there’s a text summary here, because I’d never visit TT
The point was not for corporate trackers, but rather for people looking over your shoulder. A quick glance would look like you’re checking email - someone would have to stand there and read to realize the content is actually Reddit.
And I wasn’t contradicting that point (or misunderstanding it). Most companies have some form of proxy and can also control your ability to use a VPN as well.
There’s still a sizeable chunk of work from home workforce, which also defeats the purpose.
Managers have learned to look at output to determine productivity (at least, the smart ones have).
20 years ago? This would have been useful. Even 10. Now? Not so much.
Maybe for kids trying to be sneaky around parents, but even parental controls have come a long way.
