The vibe when you're a 30 year old software developer and still could never afford a house in this economy....

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

I absolutely love the Steam Link. I don't use it quite as much as I did before I picked up my Steam Deck, but it's the perfect way to play games on the TV with my wife when we aren't a console household. They also still ship updates for it despite not actually manufacturing it anymore. Really incredible little box.

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

I only use it for finding information or how tos for stuff that just doesn't have the community or information backlog on Kbin. Lots of guides for how to install stuff on the Steam Deck on Reddit, for example. Most of my friends still use reddit so I'll read any links they post too, but my primary social media is Kbin

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

This is an incredible article! I very much relate to the disillusionment of doing something for the sake of sales, and also find myself on a winding journey to do something that has meaning without really knowing what that is or should be. Best of luck to him!

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

Might it be easier to start by adding mentions of Kbin on another Wikipedia article? I've read a bunch of news articles about Kbin and most of them aren't thorough enough to really base anything off of, or they're just wrong. Most people writing articles about Kbin don't seem to have used it enough to really give a full picture of its capabilities or history

The games industry needs to slow down. There's just too much. #gaming

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

@jahed It's one of, if not the, biggest industries in entertainment. I don't think it'll slow down any time soon. People need to start advocating financially for better games.

This is awesome. Looks like a painting

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

It's very quiet in my local community one. Mostly just me posting about interesting stuff I hear about in my town, though I have a few people following and liking things... which is cool? I really miss the my local community subreddits, so my hope is someday others from my town stumble onto it and we can all hang out online instead of in person like a real community.

30 days is not nearly enough time for me to see an alert sent to my spam email lol. I probably log in to my Ubisoft once a year, at most. This is ridiculous.

I remember being 13-15 and not caring at all what the news was. Better times, I think

Honestly I think this is probably one of the many secrets to long-term happiness. Ignorance is bliss, as they say

Not to worry, this feeling never goes away

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

@applebottom how'd you make the curry? This is something I really want to figure out at home!!

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

@applebottom That's a good tip! I'll have to see if there's a grocery near me that stocks those items. I know the supermarket by us doesn't, but there are some smaller ones that might!

This game really was a lot of fun. Honestly wasn't ever expecting to read about it again lmao

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

I have been having a ton of fun playing Everspace 2. I've also been jumping between that, Freelancer, and Endless Sky. On a bit of a space game kick. Definitely recommend all 3!!

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

It's a bit frustrating! I've asked the kbin matrix chat about it too hopefully someone knows what's up

rodhlann,

Not being able to see newest for this magazine is rough. I really like to keep up with the updates and issues people are reporting

It isn't happening for me anymore it seems. Perhaps a hiccup?

rodhlann,

I was having the issue consistently today until about 30 mins ago, so hopefully we're over the hump

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone? (kbin.social)

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

I use a hybrid. If I'm typing with both hands, and I need to be speedy I'll typically use regular typing, but if I'm just causally typing stuff out or only have one hand I'll use swipe. I like having the option

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

Been playing the beta version with controller support for a few weeks and it's pretty good! I had a better control scheme already working using the deck controls, but this is really good for being able to just pick up and play the game on deck!

Are any of your friends on the fediverse too? If not, have you tried to get them to join?

I’ve been telling a lot of people about it, but everyone’s a skeptic. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that they’re just going to wait to see which Reddit clone comes out on top before switching. Most of them haven’t heard of the other parts of the fediverse like mastodon. I’d like to leave fb/instagram, but like...

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

Most of my friends jumped off Reddit and onto Kbin/Lemmy for the week of the blackout. I think most of them are using some hybrid of Lemmy/Reddit now. I'm the only person I know that moved exclusively to Kbin, but that's okay. It fills the same hole that reddit did, I don't much care if other people I know do or do not join tbh

Ah man that's a huge bummer. Thanks for checking in on that. Hopefully it'll get there!

I've done some other xemu emulation for Deck and over all it's pretty solid. Minor stuttering in Ninja Gaiden Black, but it's completely playable

It's been said, but deserves another stating: MegaMan Legends 3

What to Get for a Cancer Patient (youtu.be)

This seems like a really great framework for thinking about how to help people suffering from any illness, physical, mental, or otherwise. I really appreciate how Hank has been so transparent about his experience with cancer, and how he's using it as an opportunity to try and share his experiences and knowledge with people...

rodhlann,
@rodhlann@kbin.social avatar

It doesn't work for everything though. Having a self hosted account that wasn't tied to any specific platform or instance would ideally allow you to have access to PeerTube and BookWyrm as well as Mastodon and Kbin, without having to worry about your instance shuttering and all of your posts and comments disappearing. I've also been really stewing on this idea, I think it's a probable future state of the Fediverse
