Love this. I just finished reading Huey Newton’s “Revolutionary Suicide” and what struck me most about it was how ahead of his time he was on issues of intersectionality and class warfare. Yes race, gender, sexual orientation…etc are all things that matter, but until we have a system that works for ALL people (which can only be gained through class solidarity and crushing the entrenched oligarchy), all of the other issues will only sow class division and play into the hands of the oppressors.
I wouldn’t even go that far, although I’m not deep into the tactics and action of getting progress done like Huey was. To me, fighting for trans rights right now is obviously a good thing. As is fighting for worker’s rights. Refusing to fight for worker’s rights alongside someone, unless they’re willing to also join your fight for (for example) trans rights, is what I think is silly.
Works flawless in all my browsers, Firefox, Vivaldi, Otter, Netsurf, all with ad/trackerblocker. Maybe some extension, lack of some video driver or security soft you use? It’s very strange that you can’t even open TikTok. Although it is not a page where I would like to open an account, there should be no problems accessing it, just like X or Meta with the necessary blockers.
Thanks for this lol I appreciate when people curate TikTok, I don’t use it because it’s so cringe and there is nothing that I want to see in my FYP, but when people post good tiktoks that makes me feel like an old grandpa getting news of the world from the younguns
The point was not for corporate trackers, but rather for people looking over your shoulder. A quick glance would look like you’re checking email - someone would have to stand there and read to realize the content is actually Reddit.
And I wasn’t contradicting that point (or misunderstanding it). Most companies have some form of proxy and can also control your ability to use a VPN as well.
There’s still a sizeable chunk of work from home workforce, which also defeats the purpose.
Managers have learned to look at output to determine productivity (at least, the smart ones have).
20 years ago? This would have been useful. Even 10. Now? Not so much.
Maybe for kids trying to be sneaky around parents, but even parental controls have come a long way.
Ok but wayne brady chose it as the platform, it’s the original source. It makes sense to share it. I say this as someone who also doesn’t use tiktok. If it bothers you that much then go read an article or the text from it which is actually here on this very post right below the link. You have a dozen options that don’t require you to chest pound about how great you are for hating tiktok.
It’s not about calm, I can be calm and be a dick. It’s about being nice. I mod flagged the reply because the user is not from around here and may not have bothered to read our single rule, which is to be nice. This reminder applies to you as well now. Be nice around here.
Honestly I’m far more concerned about how intense your response has been. The text is right below the link here on this post. No one grabbed you by the throat and forced you to open tiktok. Clearly tiktok lives rent free in your head for several hours a day if this post warranted such a strong reaction, despite the fact that you don’t even use it.
I don’t like twitter. I don’t seethe anytime someone posts a link from it.
Anyway I’m happy for him. It’s good to see he feels safe coming out.
I was introduced to Wayne Brady through Chappelle’s Show :) I like his coming out, and the thoughtful message he gave. As a wealthy, middle-aged Black celebrity and comic, I think he may be quite influential in opening others’ minds and hearts. Also, I’m glad there’s a text summary here, because I’d never visit TT
Cool, it’s nice when older people come out because it’s a sign that times are changing for the better, despite the right trying to shove everyone back in the closet.
I just feel bad that people go through so much of their life suppressing an important part of themselves, it really is a kind of deeply personal theft committed against them by the people in their life who kept them pushed in the closet through explicit or implicit bigotry. Such a waste of life that could be lived happier.
