If Twitter were a person, I would think everything gets more expensive and they have to pay up front, now that they have a reputation for not paying their bills.

Or does that logic not apply to corporations?

That news is so old that even the 180° turn from two weeks later is old news already.

So tired of hearing about this crappy new service from a crappy old company.

I am not entirely sure.

hoodlem, to tech in Five reasons Threads could still go the distance

To Zuckerberg, the concept has been proved out. The rest is simply an execution problem.

“The focus for the rest of the year is improving the basics and retention,” he wrote. “It’ll take time to stabilize, but once we nail that then we’ll focus on growing the community. We’ve run this playbook many times (FB, IG, Stories, Reels, etc) and I’m confident Threads is on a good path too.”

I don’t doubt this. I think Threads will continue to grow. Musk’s self-destructive nature will give Threads openings to grow. And I think Threads has some aces up its sleeves for some PR wins. Maybe exclusivity agreements with celebs, popular YouTubers, and other influencers.

Everyone say it with me

Fuck Republicans

borkcorkedforks,

Democrats get on board with shit like this all the time just more often over copyright or spying on people. You know real bipartisan effort stuff.

Although COPPA was introduced by a Democrat and signed into law by Clinton.

Pheta,
@Pheta@kbin.social avatar

politicians are really just career criminals. They can't earn an honest dollar on their own so they have to buy and sell favors for it, all while selling out the rest of the country underneath them.

“Protect the children” only from the things we deem bad. If they are homeless, hungry, live with parents who struggle to put food on the table? “Nah, they need to pull themselves by their bootstraps” I hate the GOP with a burning passion

Mediocre_Bard,

They’re just garbage people. I don’t understand why they are so angry and hateful.

donut4ever,

That’s a mystery that we will forever chase.

stopthatgirl7,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

It’s all they have. They’ve got anger and hate, and nothing else.

emeralddawn45,

Well that’s not entirely true. A small percentage of them also has way too much stolen/hoarded money.

uriel238,

As it was established by Nixon’s Southern Strategy it’s totally about preserving power (which they use for the highest bidders). Anger and hate keeps their base voting for them.

But their base is fickle, which is now Donald Trump seized the 2016 Republican Primary from everyone else. And while Trump is facing all his indictments and other player like DeSantis vie to take his place, that base will eventually find another Secret Hitler to fall behind.

Misery mostly. Industrialized hate for profit.

Cult leaders have weaponized this pain for their own power and profit.They lie to people, tell them it’s not their fault, to blame their failures on [insert latest convenient target]. They will fix everything if only they received more [power/money]. They distract from the unacceptable truth that it is their own actions that have led to their misery (including decades voting for same party and policies that “somehow” never helped). The cult is the most important thing in their life now, after cutting out disagreeable family and friends. These poor bastards will be squeezed for all they’re worth.

I’m not sure how miserable, lonely, damaged, mentally ill a person needs to be to be susceptible to this. But apparently we have more than enough to terrorize.

You are far too charitable to the GOP. They let school shootings happen for the sake of political gain, and they’re actively pushing for child labor and restricting control over your own body.

What is with the enshitification of everything this last year? Is it because we didn’t actively overthrow the government through the Trump bs? People realize they can actually do whatever they want and 50 ish percent of the country agrees based off of tribalism, 45% just don’t give a shit and the last 5% don’t really matter? They realized we are all cattle. No matter how mad we get, we have no choice in the system we are in. The fucking boomers/gen xers really set themselves up to be a bunch of selfish twats with no real repercussions.

It’s an Oligarchy and a dictatorship under the guise of democracy and freedoms and a majority of people are too busy hating the other 50% of the population yo realize we’re getting fucked and manipulated.

Close, it's because they did it, failed, and (so far) suffered no consequences for doing so. Pretty well signaled that it's open season for pulling whatever dystopian totalitarian crap you want and the worst that can happen is it won't work.

Reminder they give zero fucks about children. They want to spread fascism to the internet for everyone in the name of children, but they have zero issues with elementary schoolers getting gunned down and legalizing child labor. Party of small government btw.

    Removed as a protest against the community’s support for campaigns to bring about the deaths of members of marginalized groups, and opposition to private entities working to prevent such campaigns, together with it’s mindless flaming and downvoting of anyone who disagrees.

    This is the most concerning thing I’ve read today. I don’t understand how we’ve reached this point. If people are concerned about the safety of their children then they need to be more attentive parents. This almost reminds me of that time Apple was going to scan everyone’s photos stored in iCloud in the name of “protecting children” but backed down due to public backlash. Except this somehow is codified into law and lays the roadmap out for other states to do the same. Government mandated online verification systems sounds like a cyberpunk fever dream but I guess the US is slowly working it’s way there.

    Dark_Blade,
    @Dark_Blade@lemmy.world avatar

    Uhh just to clear up a misunderstanding, Apple and everyone else already scans your photos in the cloud and compares them to a pre-curated hash of known CSAM. What Apple was trying to do was do the scans on-device instead, for photos outbound to Apple’s iCloud. Supposedly, this was to make sure that your photos weren’t directly scanned by Apple themselves.

    @sircashews@lemmy.world avatar

    In the article one of the items of information was that the state would not be the one to enforce the law, that, instead this law gives citizens the ability to sue over a business’s failure to comply. This takes a criminal offense with it’s level of proof “To a reasonable doubt” and tries it in a civil court where the level of proof is lower. “a preponderance of evidence”
