Ang downside lang dito sa Lemmy is account approval. Admins kasi in charge nun and not us so depende sa kung tulog sila or what, you can’t post asap just yet when you sign up. That, and the founder and the predominant “red” tinge. Yari tayo kina Sara, lol.
Pero other than that, this is the best among the Reddit alternatives from what I’ve tried/seen. Meron din siya mobile app, pero obviously not as good as Relay/Sync/Apollo.
Nalilito rin ako. Tatlo yung nakita kong community dito:
!pilipinas — Oldest post listed is from May 10, 2022.
!pilipinas — From their sidebar: “… an explicitly pro-Joma Sison and pro-CPP-NPA-NDF community. ” Oldest post listed is from January 12, 2023.
!philippines — This current community. Oldest post listed is from June 9, 2023.
According to the mod list for /r/Philippines, /u/decadentrebel is one of the mods, and if the mod for this community is the same user behind /u/decadentrebel in Reddit, then this one might be it. But even so, I can’t say for certain if they’re acting on their own personal initiative, or otherwise.
EDIT: Si /u/sarcasticookie din pala, mod sa /r/Philippines. So dalawa na sila sa modteam ng /r/Philippines na andito.
EDIT 2: Just took a peek at this thread from the reddit site, and yeah, this is the community for lemmy. There are others linked in the thread for other reddit alternatives.
[email protected] — From their sidebar: “… an explicitly pro-Joma Sison and pro-CPP-NPA-NDF community.” Oldest post listed is from January 12, 2023.
TIL may actual CPP-NPA-NDF supporters pala sa instance (lemmygrad.ml).
I wonder what would potentially happen if NTF-Elcac or if some high-ranking AFP/PA/PN/PAF or Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, or some people at DICT, NTC stumbles on this community ([email protected]) on that lemmy instance.
What NTC and DICT gonna do, block that communist Lemmy instance like they did a year ago with bulatlat?
I don’t know, but for their own sake, I sure hope any Filipinos, heck, any person in the lemmygrad and hexbear (more radical than lemmygrad) instances have excellent opsec practices.
Pihado, kung tagilid ang opsec practices nila, kung hindi yan sila titiktikan ng husto, gagawan ng kaso, o papatumbahin. Di na kailangang-i-redtag tho, so… I guess that’s a plus?
I actually made an r/PH version in Raddle despite an existing Filipino community being there already. Turns out, they’re (in the mod’s own words) “leftist/anarchist-centric” forum so he said that it’s better off that we remain separate. 😬
Yeah, that is quite a reasonable decision, and I guess a win-win for both communities, since Reddit refugees who are aligned to their views, guided from /r/PH to the /r/PH version in Raddle, could simply hop over and join them if they (the refugees) so desire.
There’s been discussions for a week now where to set up shop as the site blacks out, kaso medyo busy karamihan sa mods so there’s no back and forth where to exactly. So I took it upon myself to just figure out how Lemmy works, especially with “indefinite” talks percolating.
Ah, I’ve had an inkling that it’s that kind of a scenario. Thanks for the clarification.
In my opinion, creating communities (or forums, or whatever they’re called) in the different alternatives is a good short-term move—either until the mod team decides, or the people decide (by preferentially going to one alternative over the others).
Wherever it might be, I hope for the best for the /r/Philippines community.
Madaming sumusulpot sa browser kasi may mga nauna na before for Philippines, some are even a few years old. However, all of them are under lemmy.ml which doesn’t accept new registrations anymore kaya dito na lang ako sa lemmy.world nagtayo. And hindi kasing blatant mga “red” stuff sa instance na to, haha.
Let’s be honest, this price change was all about being able to charge the big corps mega money for access to their data in order to train new generations of AI. The price is absurd, yes, but the owners of reddit know that Google and Microsoft have deep pockets (among other global corps wanting the massive amount of data reddit has saved).
They never expected the third party apps to be able to pay this much and frankly, they don’t care. It’s HUGE profit from AI corps, and the losses, at least short term, will be overshadowed by the gains. Long term? I don’t know, this isn’t my area of expertise, but, like I did with Twitter, I have moved on so at this point, it’s no longer relevant to me.
