My first soulsborne game was Bloodborne and is still my favorite of the FromSoft series with Elden Ring just behind it. Playing Lies of P has seriously reminded me of when I first played Bloodborne and so it probably gets special bonus points just for that. Now I just have to wait until Friday for Lords of the Fallen!
I am a huge souls fan, and Elden Ring is probably my favorite game of all time.
I was expecting Lies of P to be a competent souls knockoff, but it’s so much more than that.
It has some issues, sure. But I really think the game is superb. I am beyond excited to see what they do next in the genre. They got so many things right.
Anyone heard of this? I’ve been following it since the first few trailers looked fake, but now I’m more convinced this is going to be a real game (and actually looks kinda good).
Speaking to the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke admitted that the developers feared some low scores for Baldur's Gate 3 due to potential bugs encountered by reviewers. This explains why review codes were only sent a handful of days before the PC launch....
Well they also launched a full month earlier than they anticipated, because they didn’t want their launch to compete against Starfield. Sounds like they had some tough tradeoffs. The ending definitely does fall apart a little bit, but they are quickly releasing patches. It’ll get there eventually.
I played through the campaign, then got bored pretty much immediately after. Switched back to Path of Exile and made 2 characters this league. Having a blast.
I had an old MSI gaming laptop from 2016 which was amazing for me (I always had slow, 2nd hand laptops before) and now I’ve sold it and my PS Vita in order to buy a Steam Deck. I want to play Elden Ring, the Souls series, Sekiro and some indie games like Vampire Survivor. I also want to emulate games (Gameboy gen up to PS2...
Definitely agree with this. Locked 30fps mode with motion blur set to 2/5 was the ideal way to play this game. Performance mode was far too unstable and blurry especially on a larger TV. Digital Foundry also suggested just locking it to 30 and not switching back and forth. Your eyes do eventually adjust.
I wish the performance mode was better, but it seems pretty clear that 30fps was the performance target.
I know what this post is referencing, but I don’t think that was really the message that they were trying to convey.
Baldurs Gate 3 is an incredibly good game, but it will be difficult for most average studios to emulate their success.
They had a very long developmental cycle of 6+ years, very successful early access, and a team of 400+ experienced developers who know this genre better than anyone.
I would absolutely love to see another studio attempt something this ambitious, but it’s going to be really hard to top this game for the foreseeable future.
This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...
Game is good, came out at the right time, had a lot of hype and lived up to the hype
Longer details:
The game is just really well made. It’s extremely fun, very polished (except for a few weird bugs), and complete
It has a massive IP tied to it. This game had impossible levels of hype and it met those expectations somehow
The recent D&D movie was a large success, and D&D in general has been the most popular it has ever been lately
Divinity OS 2 Definitive Edition was very well received, people trust Larian to deliver a good product
People are sharing this game with their friends. They had a strong marketing push as well as really strong word of mouth
Final Fantasy 16 left a lot of us wanting a more traditional RPG after FF16 was anything but traditional
We currently live in an era of games like Diablo 4 which ask for a $70 price tag, and then also have a paid battle pass and paid cosmetics. This game came out at $60 content complete with no additional microtransactions. Ultimately that makes this game much easier to reccomend to people.
My mom likes to play No Man’s Sky and Valheim, but her Asus TUF started freezing on games. RMA found no problems and sent it back to her but it still happens. I ordered a Legion for her but now I see these posts about all Nvidia 40-series laptops freezing up. What’s a gaming mom supposed to do?
I have my gaming desktop, gaming laptop, and Steam deck.
My gaming desktop is my strong preference. It’s powerful, I built it myself, and it can handle basically everything I can throw at it.
My gaming laptop is really nice for travel, where I can’t bring my desktop. I was working at a job that was like 30% travel, lots of flying. It was nice to have in the hotel to get some gaming in.
On shorter/busier work trips though, I’d usually opt for just taking my iPad and Steam Deck. It’s a bit more limited in terms of what’s available, but the Steam Deck is a super capable machine. The Steam Deck also didn’t exist when I started traveling originally.
I think the writing is overall better than it was in Divinity Original Sin 2. The world is darker and more sinister. There is also a deeper emphasis on what your character is thinking, with a narrator describing things more regularly to you.
That being said this is unmistakably a Larian game. I’d suggest watching some gameplay online to see if it’s for you.
It’s very much balanced around having a party of 4 characters. But the game itself is incredibly open ended. You could probably make fewer characters work but the game would be harder.
Hey, so 1 year ago they actually released a solution to this exact issue.
In Siege of the Atlas they added an Atlas passive tree which allows you to block content in the endgame, to make it a more focused experience with the systems you want to work with.
For every system you block, it increases the chance of the other systems showing up instead. Additionally, some of the legacy content in the game has been reworked to feel more consistent with modern quality standards.
We’re not at Path of Exile 2 levels of refinement, but Path of Exile 1 is in a great state at the moment.
I enjoyed the campaign of Diablo 4, but as you mentioned the game has a serious lack of depth.
It became especially obvious to me once I hit the endgame and realized there just wasn’t that much to do.
In Path of Exile especially there is so much depth and content around the endgame that it feels like there’s almost too much to do.
I don’t think Diablo 4 is bad, but I do think it’s far too casual. The combat is satisfying and the graphics are great. But the skill tree and RPG systems are massively lacking.
I feel the same way. I’m currently working through heavensword and it just feels like there’s so much filler.
Half the time I feel like missions were just put into the expansion to pad out the game time because most of the epic stuff doesn’t happen until later.
I find myself skipping a lot of the dialog and just watching a recap on YouTube later.
It takes awhile for Path of Exile to truly click. I think it’s the best ARPG ever made, but the initial learning curve is pretty steep. Things really open up in the endgame. And we have Path of Exile 2 right around the corner which is awesome.
So once you complete the campaign you will begin maps. There are 3 tiers of maps, you have white, then yellow, then red. I consider mapping to be the endgame.
If this is your first build, the endgame will be rather punishing and you might not make it very far. It took me until my third character roughly before I was able to successfully push into red maps and beyond. There are special bosses to hunt down, and all the side content like Heist and Delve are very rewarding and fun.
Additionally you get another passive tree that allows you to customize your mapping experience however you want. Zizaran has a really nice video going over the endgame. It’s quite long, but very helpful. youtu.be/uf4wnvkS-mI
